Very very cool. The potential is just gets my imagination going...off to craigslist/trulia.
Sweet! That's awesome that you had such a good offer that fast! You must have had it priced just right. [emoji106]Sold the house! 98% of asking price! Its a short closing so I will be moving into the Mill over the next few weeks. Then hopefully we can get some progress!
This thread needs MOAR pics!!
We're not that far away. Good luck with your build.
I believe 12-gauge wire goes with a 20-amp circuit breaker. If your motor draws 16 amps or less then 12-gauge wire on a 20-amp 240v breaker would be OK. NEC (National Electrical Code) recommends the motor draw no more than 80% of the breaker/wire capacity (80% x 20A = 16A).I have some family stuff to take care of, and then need to connect my air compressor. It looks like the head gasket has blown on it, and i need to find the gasket kits I bought for it and replace the gasket.
It is only a 5hp 240v 1 phase motor, will 12-2 BX be the proper wire to use?
I would go with the 10-2 cable. It costs more than the 12-2 but if you use 12-2 and the breaker trips every 10 minutes when you're sandblasting or running an air sander you'll be spending more to replace the lighter gauge down the road. If you think you'll be replacing the compressor with a real 5hp unit in a few years, you might even want to spring for 8-2 gauge. Just use a double pole 20A breaker with the heavier gauge wire to protect your current 16-amp motor.
