I will dig up the truss sheet and see what info is on it.
Been getting a ton of framing done the last few days.
Finished up the purlins, window blocking and outlet box mounts on the southern wall.

Im hoping to have the rest of the purlins up by the end of the weekend, then time to crank on the electrical.

No updates for a while here. I have about 1/3 of the wiring done, which isnt very exciting to look at.
Today they brought in gravel to make the parking area along the north side of the barn for my camper and landscape trailer. So I now have another 1300+sqft of driveway or so. Hoping this weekend to get some topsoil delivered so I can taper most of it into the lawn and get some seed going.

Beautiful property and a great size barn/garage. Would love to build something like this one day with a separate part for woodworking.
Another idea with the sawdust on the laminate being potentially slippery would be to only wear socks upstairs and slide yourself around the room.

Finally got part of the driveway back filled last week. Took almost 4 yards of dirt to do that one little area. Im going to need a LOT more to do the north side.
Ive also been working a TON on the wiring. I think in another week or so Ill be basically "done", other than wiring in the final lights (which I cant do until the ceiling is in), etc. I dont really have many pics yet. Ill snap some when its finished.

I also added a separate 100A subpanel box in the opposite rear corner. Its saving me a ton of wire and work as the compressor, welders, hot water heater, lift, and half of the upstairs outlets are closer to this point than to the main panel. Also if we ever get a generator I can put it behind the barn and have a full 100A run all the way back to the house.

Borrowed the neighbors Kubota yesterday and cleaned up the stones at the back of the building. When they put the parking area down the side it went a couple feet farther than I wanted (as shown by the larger dirt patch). I also had a pile of other gravel left over (from what I used down the south side) so I spread that out along the back as well. It only goes half way as I will eventually be putting up a "shed" back there to replace my current pos shed. Anyway, this stone area will be home to a 200 gallon rain "barrel" that Im working on as well as the propane tank for the heater and probably rusty car parts. *Yes, I realize the gutter is going up hill, this is only temp until I can get the rain barrel going*
I also started installing the upstairs lighting. I scored 14 these for $10 each with bulbs, plus he gave me a box of probably 15-20 spare bulbs. They are all 2-bulb T8 fixtures that were apparently removed from a local high school (some still had spit balls on them, lol). Charlotte HS for anyone local reading this.
I have 12 of them mounted and two wired up. These two turn on from the bottom of the stairs so that I can find my way to the storage area at night without having to turn on 12 lights. The other 10 will turn on via two switches at the top of the stairs.

Yesterday after work I cranked out more wiring.
- Installed 7 more outlets in the "fabrication area".
- installed a second outside motion light
- finished wiring up the upstairs lights, and boy are they niiiice. I cant imagine how bright it will be once there are nice bright white walls up there. These pics were taken at 1:30 am so it was def dark outside.
I just need to run two lines for ceiling fans, and add outlets for the TIG welder and compressor and I THINK Ill be done.

That upstairs area is sweet.
Ran the vac duct for the table saw under the floor last night (still need to move the saw back over it). Was "fun" doing it by myself. Now I just need to come up with a funnel for inside the saw. I THINK Im going to use a transmission drain funnel, trimmed to fit.
Then I decided to finally try to get the rain barrel going, ya know, before all the rain stops. The wife's dad scored this 275 gallon container from Ithaca college when they replaced them a few years back (chlorine storage for the pools / fountain). Unfortunately they were originally installed before the building was finished and had to be cut in half to be removed. So here is my attempt to put it back together.
Two pieces
Had a friend of mine bend up these two pieces of 1/8" aluminum to use as a giant band clamp. can also see where I cleaned up the plastic near the joint
Inside, lined up and ready to be sealed.
And together with the new lid on. I still need to seal it and add a few bolts to keep the band in place, but I think it should work out pretty good.

Well its been a long time since Ive made any progress on the shop. The end of summer was busy with vacation, putting up a pool, doing some landscaping, building a fence etc. Finally getting back to it.
Decided it would be nice to actually use the upstairs storage area so I put up some osb monday night. Im not doing the ceiling since its just a cold storage area. Hoping to prime it up sunday.
I also bought some parts to get the dust collection system going as the table saw has been getting some use and is creating a huge mess.
Going to start insulating and sheeting the south wall of the wood shop this weekend.

I got the long south and short east walls insulated, sheeted those as well as the half wall by the stairs, and put two coats of oil based Kilz on (about 4 gals worth).
Next I need to caulk some of the joints, paint the walls and get some trim up. Then move everything over to this wall and get that north wall finished up.

They sealed and cut the floor today. Its still extremely dusty. I guess they are going to finish clean up tomorrow. They also brought in two loads of crushed stone to top off the driveway, still a load short. More pics tomorrow.

I have a question about cutting the concrete when heat tubes are installed. Do they keep the cuts shallow enough to miss the tubes?
Ya, I guess so. I didnt question it. They must just know how far up they pulled the tubes and how far down they can cut.
I made a very detailed map of the tubing layout so I can be sure I dont put a hole in a tube. Tubes are spaced 1' apart, so you have a pretty big window of error if you aim for the expected middle.

A couple weeks ago I insulated, sheeted and primed (only got like 1 1/4 coats on as I ran out) the north wall.
Built some shelves out of some old doors I got off CL for $5 ea for all the hand power tools.
Built 32' of shelving along the one wall of the storage room
I scored these two old desk tops from work and made them into a little bench upstairs. They arent awesome, but for nearly $0 itll get the job done for now.

Forgive me, I'm not very experienced in large structure construction.
Where can I find more information regarding the construction used in this building where the framing was done prior to the slab?
I've only ever seen the typical slab first then framing so I'm curious as to why this build was done this way and am not sure what to research.

I havent updated this in forever, as I havent worked on it in forever. Until recently.
In the last couple weeks Ive been working on the insulation, finally.
Ceiling -
Im installing R30 under the upstairs floor area. The rest will be R49 blown-in once the steel is up.
Im currently at about 60% done. Hoping to have the rest done either tonight or by sat pm.
Walls -
Started insulating the front of the posts, to keep any cold air from getting between the 2x6s they are made from (no they arent glue laminated).
Also I had some 25" gaps between all the windows and the posts. I used some 2" foam along the posts to bridge the gap vs trying to fill in a 2" piece of fibergass.
Finally, capped the walls between each truss with some 1" foam to help prevent cold air from pouring down into the walls. The way Im insulating them, fiberglass between the purlins, I thought itd be hard to seal without doing this. Even if it doesnt make a huge difference Im only out the $15 for a sheet of foam.
South wall all ready for insulation. I actually have about 50sqft done, just no pics.
Progress will hopefully be alot faster now. I hope.

Needs more insulation...
Pretty well done with the ceiling now. Just a couple pieces I need to toss in once I get ceiling fan boxes in place.
Ran hopefully the last few 110V lines, to the ceiling fans and to two locations for lights over the bench area.
Also, have about 75% of the south wall insulation done. I think the other walls will go MUCH faster. We shall see.

We're getting to that point, yes.
Saturday pm I worked on a little more insulation.
Sunday am a friend and I got the plastic up on the south section of the ceiling. It took some time, but wasnt SO bad. I still need to do a little taping but ran out of house wrap tape.
Then yesterday this showed up, along with a mountain of J and Z trim, about 1200lbs worth. I only had enough cash to get the metal for the ceiling, the south (window) wall - where my 18' workbench will go, and the west wall (overhead door).
Started putting up a few pieces last night because I couldnt wait. Im loving the look of the light grey, blue and white. the night pics sorta ****. Ill try to get one during daylight when I get home later.
Im hoping to get a good start on the ceiling tomorrow night.

Last night I finished up some plastic taping, a little insulation, installed a bunch of J trim, and I installed two wall panels over the man door.
Then a buddy came over and we got 8 ceiling panels installed, which took a little over 3 hours. We did spent a bit of time screwing with the garage door brackets. I cut about 10" off the piece that bolts to the ceiling to avoid cutting too many ribs out of the steel and just so it would look nicer. I think now that we are into the middle area it "should" go a little faster. Plus now we have a system down for pre-measuring where the screws are going etc.

I cut about 10" off the piece that bolts to the ceiling to avoid cutting too many ribs out of the steel and just so it would look nicer. Saturday AM we got another 6 panels up on the ceiling. So now just over 1/4 done. I also got the first 4 light fixtures hung and wired (only two pictured, obv).
Last night I got the first panel on the front wall installed.
