RE: "skinny box"
I recently sold a Thorsen set to @Tom "Python" Aycock that seemed to be in an awfully narrow box - not like any other "Thorsen" box I'd ever seen.
Tom is you see this post, can you measure that box?
I got a Husky, New Britain and a Giller set from ya. I Don't see a Thorsen set I bought from ya. The one Thorsen set I bought from ya back on 7APR was in a KAL box.

Of the active Thorsen sets I'm trying to fill in the 1/4 drive size, I have:

#1416 and #1416S circa 1961 16pc set that measures 6 7/8" in width, just shy of 3" deep and 1 1/4" tall

#1411 circa 1980 11pc set that measures 7 1/16" in width, 3 5/32" deep and 1 9/32" tall

I also have a military issue circa 1985 1/4" drive set but it's a pretty standard size box

Hey guys. Found this double female 1/4" drive at a flea market the other day. I know Stevens Walden has a 3/8" and 1/2" double female included in their PM32 set. Curious if anybody else had knowledge of this one and possibly the manufacturer and/ or the kit it belonged with. The SW ones appear to be fully knurled while this one only has an area of knurling. It has a good heavy feel to it so I'd like to think USA Made1000026167.jpg1000026166.jpg1000026165.jpg1000026164.jpg1000026162.jpg

If there are no markings on the socket, that’s going to be a tough one. 4 point sockets of many sizes were once popular for use on pipe plugs although 8 point sockets gradually gained in popularity over time. There were some distributor wrenches that came with sockets that resemble the Walden examples as well.
-Don
Some 4 point sockets.

Lack of markings is the bane of my existence for sure!

Any ideas on this 1/4" drive socket? 6 unequal sided.

@Tom "Python" Aycock -

Your 1/4" drive 1/4" square socket might well be an early refrigeration socket. I know they were made in both 3/16" and 7/32", but off the top of my head I don't recall a 1/4" size.
I have a Walden PM21 set that uses that goofy female-to-female "connector", as well as one of their 1/2" drive sets that uses the same kind of set-up - using extensions with male ends at both ends - but I've not seen a 1/4" drive set like that. :headscrat

Recent find for me is this “21 piece” Williams 1/4 Drive x Tall Socket set. 21 pc thanks to Added bonus of 8 standard 1/4 Drive sockets stuffed into the well in the lower right hand corner. I don’t reckon they were part of the original set. The flimsy plastic insert smacks of late 70s early 80s timeframe.

Is that 1/4", or 9/32" on the drive end? If the later, it might be an early Snap-on.

^ If it is indeed 1/4" square at both ends, I would be more inclined to think that it came in a refrigeration socket set - I've never seen any 1/4" Walden "connectors" like that goofy set-up in the PM-21 kit with the double-male-end extensions.

That socket doesn’t look Walden-like to me. Walden did make 1/4” drive 1/4” four point sockets. I have one in my Walden 1/4” drive oddball set. IMG_2558.png

This WW2 vintage Walden FSN marked box arrived at the Post Office yesterday. It had a mixed batch of tools inside. Some were the expected Walden sockets with a flex handle missing the retaining ball. There were some D-I sockets along with a Duro-Chrome flex handle with the two male ends. There was a wartime unmarked S-K flex handle that unfortunately had a stuck retaining ball that showed no signs of freeing up. The other sockets and extension were disposable checkout counter ****.

I picked this up at Jake’s Flea this morning, hoping it would be Bonney inside. Unmarked cad-plated S-K instead. But I do not recognize the mostly-gone label on the underside of the lid.
DID S-K do a crackle red in the ‘40s-50”s?
Does anyone recognize the logo from what’s left of the label?

The logo looks Blackhawk but I’m not sure if they did wrinkle finish ?
