I had a broken screwdriver I needed to warranty so I stopped in after work. I wandered around the tool dept with my replacement in hand that I grabbed from the rack for a good 10+ minutes. I saw one person coming my way but once they seen me they seemed scurry away. I placed my old driver on the counter and walked out with my new one.

Might have been because your fly was open and your little wee wee was hanging out. I'd scurry along too

hahahah, thats funny

dont worry though, the sears hardware that i frequent the staff is never in the aisle you need and when you start walking towards someone, they seem to get a page or something.....also, there is only like 2 cars in the parking lot anytime i am ever there but like 10 people working and still no one has time for you....i get it

Last time I went to Sears the two employees were having social hour at the cash register and couldn't be bothered to help anyone.

I had the opposite experience lately. I was in there and was approached twice in about five minutes to ask very politely whether I wanted some assistance. There were two clerks at check-out. Friendly and professional. I have some problems with Sears as do many people, but the employees I dealt with were very good ones.

Maybe it was because you were wondering around the store. If I seen you wondering, I might scurry the other way too. Did you ever think to ask the person if they could help you, instead of just expecting them to read your mind?

Ive had some pretty good experiences with sears lately. I had to exchange a punch. (I know a punch right? i cant believe they warantee these things!) and I had to get a nail punch for a guy at work because I lost his :( it fell off the lader i was working on and when it hit the hangar floor it went ****!

Anyways I always go in and say hello there! I need to exchange some stuff and most of the time im greeted by some old fella who is happy to see someone in sears. I leave the item i need to exchange on the counter and walk back do my shopping and pick up my new tool.

Come back up front, Nice greeter man says all ready, tells casher that im warating said item and off I go. If i cant find a nice greeter man/ lady I just walk up and find a sales associate. they are usually more than happy to help.

Just my $0.02

Hmmm, I had a great experience today and yesterday. Both times, I was the only person in line waiting for one person at the cash register getting checked out. In both cases an employee got right on the cash register and helped me check out so I didn't have to wait for one person in line.

I think there are a lot of guys in Sears who just like to look so when I need something, I just go up and ask someone and have always been treated well. When you are wandering around, they might get the idea that you are just killing time while your wife shops at Payless. Also, at least at my store, the employees tend to stay around the cash register. If you are at the other end of the store by the bandsaws and shop vacs, you'll be waiting a while if you want someone to come ask you if you need help. I just go to the register area and get help right away. Sometimes I think, you guys are looking for reasons to hate Sears.

You want to get ignored like you have Leprosy? Try shopping at your local Home Depot. Every person you run across just happens to work in another department than the one that they are locate in.

Nah, I leaned up against the register for 5 minutes and I didn't see one person. Then waked around trying to find someone.

Sounds like your impatient but I get it.

I'm sure it varies by store. I recently took in a 3/8"-drive torque wrench that I had purchased in the mid-late 90's. The ratcheting mechanism had started to slip. I asked the guy at the counter if he could get a rebuild kit for me. He told me the guy who rebuilds them was there right now, and if I could give him 10 minutes, he'd have it rebuilt. When we stopped back after lunch, it was ready to go, no charge.

Ok my turn to bash sears. The guy that owns the one here is a horses **** . I went in there one day looking for a bunch of different tools that the **** didnt have so i asked can you order these tools ? .. He said no .. well how about these others ? He said no. He would not order anything for me. So i drove to a big city hour away and their sears and it has nearly everything. But the **** would not order anything and if u break something and take it in he usually dont have it in stock. Sorry i think sears and craftsman is a joke. i twisted a new screwdriver and the only sockets i ever break are crapsman

I think it varies by store, and to a certain extent, who happens to be on duty. The last few times I stopped in I was queried a few times by a couple of different employees on both occasions. I'm actually one of those guys who prefers not to be bothered unless I ask for help, but I don't hold it against anyone for trying to be helpful.

LHorn, The Home Depots I've been in lately actually get annoying with how often they greet me. I think enough folks complained about it that management cracked down on it. Since HD has so many depts, if I have to walk across the store to get to the one I want, it seems like I have to acknowledge about five different people just to get there - Bah Humbug! <grin>

Why would it be them reading someone's mind to actually do their job and walk up and offer to help a customer? When I returned my wrenches today I had an employee ask me right away and the manager as well, and he was the one that ended up helping me.

Yea, I too noticed this in Home Depot. They can stop this at any time. Talk about pestering...Then again, I am the same guy who goes to the self checkout even if there is nobody in line for the cashier, and I can't remember the last time I went into a bank to do...well anything.

Maybe it was your atrocious grammar skills which frightened them. :p haha, but seriously, this isn't the grammar nazi "hot water heater" thread. I have a lot of old Craftsman tools in my workshop and decided long ago that if broken they won't be traded in for newer sub-standard offerings.

I usually get good customer service, when I go to Sears. I also try to find the oldest person, in the tool department. I basically stereotype people, who I think use tools. Even though I hate the move to cheaper quality tools, I will miss Sears, when they are gone. In a sense, Sears is on a course, of demise.

well for most part have not had issues with either of the closest sears and exchanges.... one ratchet I actually got an upgrade on.... but after they tried to down grade it and I told them I already have 10 of the exact ratchet in my tool box and did not want another.... either wanted refund, closer replacement to what it was(1/4 rnd head fine tooth) or I wanted something I did not already have.... they ended up giving me one of the newer polished 1/4 ratchets..... was not a huge issue... but was really disappointed they did not have that same style of ratchet any longer

on different note, Us Cellular at mall location in fort dodge iowa needs serious help..... waited for 1 1/2 hrs for service before finally throwing in the chips and leaving.... had a lunch date... way more important...lol

Is ncfordguy always such a JERK?

I'm merely interjecting a small measure of joviality to yet another pointless thread that's akin to the "it took 15 minutes to get through the Mcdonalds drive thru and they didn't put the fawking ketchup in the bag" postings thats smeared all over the internet.

The OP should have just chased down an employee.--Problem solved. Yea in an ideal world someone should have taken care of his needs in a prompt manner. Unfortunately things aren't like the 4 guys who run out to service a car at a gas station in "Back to Future" anymore

Now to answer your question, yea sometimes and then some

lol which one? I've got tons of rusty abused stuff to trade in ;)

an acquaintance actually did this frequently; pick up junk from yard sales and turn it in
or break it himself and turn it in; like using a flat bit socket to pry a jetta strut apart

This thread is a no brainer. Sorry I don't mean to sound like I am being the administrator here. It really is. I do get good customer service. No hassles. However yes most of stuff will be going overseas. That's reality.

p.s. how are your high level talks/negotiations going with the sears brass,as per your postings in this thread; http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=97859

So it's confirmed. You're gay or have a "little wee wee" if you have a problem with Sears or Craftsman. :lol_hitti
