Yes indeed, a fine job. Kinda a mega Gerstner.
But to put another myth to rest. Pine would be fine for strength and durability. My Dad made a work bench out of 2x4 pine in 1952 or 1953. The top is laminated 2x4s 3 1/2" thick. The drawers are on pine slides. Just soap them up and they slide easily. We used that bench for wood working, gunsmithing, and reloading until he died. Then I used it for my mechanic's bench and rebuilt several engines on it. The closest thing to a finish is the motor oil I spilled on the top. My brother used it likewise. It now sits in my garage and serves general bench functions. That is 57 or 58 years and it is still going strong. Of course Dad was a very good craftsman and I'm sure that helped. But between my brother, my mother and me it has been abused the majority of its life.
