My replacement Griplatch drawer slides were dropped off by UPS this afternoon. Here's a pic of the part numbers stamped on the slides and you can see they are made by Repon Slides. They are rated for 70 lbs /pair, which is an improvement over the original 50lb slides on my older boxes. My original slides are stamped:
M15862- DR
M15861 -DL
I suspect that newer built boxes, which were advertised as having 70lb drawer capacity, used these slides.
Compared to my original slides, the new ones have a little bumper at the back end, slightly different bearing cage, and different release lever. The new one is on the top in this pic, original slide on the bottom:
The slides are replaced by prying a small tab in the cabinet member that you can access through a hole in the slide member. I used a small pocket prybar and it worked perfect. With that tab pried away from the cabinet frame, lift the slide a 1/4" and then push backwards. There's no rivets to drill out or screws to undo. The slide simply lifts up and back to demount.
The new slide pops in the reverse way, line it up with the mounting tabs in the cabinet and then pull it forward and push down. The tab will click when it's in place. It's very simple. The drawer members will need to be replaced if they're the old style like mine, the release tabs are not compatible. It easy to pop them off the drawer and swap them. Here's the new slides on the top drawer and original slides on the open drawer beneath it.
I can easily tell the difference between them. That top drawer is a hair over 50 lbs loaded with all my impact sockets, so it was at the limit of the original slides, and considering the age of the original slides, I'm not surprised the new ones feel so much better. I regularly keep my slides lubricated and they all still work, but that drawer was dragging and not rolling very smooth any more after 20 years of service. It's awesome to be able to breath new life into it with new slides.
I intend to replace the slides on two other drawers loaded down at capacity, and then keep two pair of the original slides as backups, and grind off the griplatch tabs from the top of the third pair add it as a double slide to the bottom drawer.
