Last month we worked on saving the small shed by putting it on a trailer and moving it out of the way. The new shed will be close to being in the same spot as the old one.

Last Thursday we had 30 loads of fill hauled in, leveled, and compacted. In 30ft I had 4.5ft of fall.

The small shed was saved and will be turned to run the same direction as the new shed. Won't be dealing with that shed till next spring.

" In 30ft I had 4.5ft of fall."
It is amazing how common his is in the "flat land" states.
Now you know where your oversized gutters and downspouts should go.

Right now we have another hang up because no where in the specs does it say the size of the holes for the post. They sent 14x4 cement pads but that's it.

Had a pretty productive weekend overall. Plan on setting rafters by Weds.

Escaped from Los Angeles
particular reason the man door is hinged on the right rather than the left? It would seem to be better if it opens in against the side wall.

And no eaves / overhang on the roof?

Walk through door still needs framed in. It will open towards wall, left hand swing. No overhangs really due to costs. Saved $1500 by not going with them. Will still have gutters installed

Thinking of running water and having a sink in the building. Any pointers. On doing this? More along the lines of drainage. I already plan on having 1 or 2 floor drains in the parking area.

Before concrete I roughed in bathroom waste lines and a 4" corrugated tube to run future water lines. The water comes in 3' in to avoid a freezing issue if the heat is out, it will end up in a bathroom wall.

What you do on the outside is largely dependant on where you live and how you roll.

No plans on a toilet just after a sink. I was thinking of having sink by small walk in door then having drain line to center of building where floor drain pit is. Then from there it would run outside

Yup was there all day. He had a single drum vibrating compactor. It's in the foreground of the pic. They would bring in 4 truck loads of fill, he would level it off then compact it.

Forgot to add, lp tank was moved to other side of the house so that is also now out the area. Really opened the area up and made it seem not so clustered

Got alot done this week finished the back wall and the other gable end. Last few days we've had 30+ mph winds so Sunday was only other day to work and ended up getting the roof all on with some help.

Pics to follow, to dark once we were done for pics

OP . . . not too late to upgrade those garage doors to 9 ft tall . . . or taller. :D

I sure would not build such a nice big garage with short doors.

Overall, coming along nice. LOVE the details of the different color lower skin of the building. Keep the pics coming.

Very nice looking garage. What do you plan on using the garage for? If I may ask.

I'm building a 12x16 workshop, with a full 4-inch slab, not 3.5 like traditional 2x4 sock. I ask this question to a local builder. He said thickness wouldn't matter as much if the foam has the mylar/foil covering face up and sealed with foil duct tape. Granted, this is in my area in the foothills of SC and my building isn't very big. It may be a different equation in your area. When,or if, I get to build my big garage, I will insulate under it and pour a full 6-inch slab.

Half the cost, half the insulation. Pay now or py later right? Around me 1" xps is 20 and 2" is $32... So 2" is a better value.

I did 2" xps on the outside and 1" in the middle. I also did 2" on the skirtboard

Radiant barriers do not work against other objects like concrete, they need air space. The numbers quoted for radiant are as part of a system. 25psi 2" xps is the standard. also do the perimeter / skirtboard.

My experience with contractors is they try to sell you low cost because they look good and easy for them. They say I am always overkilling it... Who's right?

Knocked a little bit out today. Was pretty breezy tho so couldn't hang any steel.ended up being 6 foot short on tyvek so I had to make some phone calls the find some scrap to finish it off. Got all the trim around doors done and hung the last windows and walk through the door. Had a little time before dark to get some bushes in also. Hoping to get the majority of the last side done tommorrow but we're expecting rain in the afternoon.

Great building that you should get some good use out of. The color combination is nice, the electrical suply shop next to the fire dept uses those colors and they go together quite well.

BTW, I have moved the thread to the Gallery Section.
