I just finished removing years of grime, rust and paint from the band saw table and while it's drying I decided to get some pics of where I'm at now. New upper wheel bearings, lower felt fine and no direct replacement as of yet so I'll roll with them, so to say. New urethane tires from ebay. Mid Green Hammertite and Black Hammer Rustoleum. Still have a few things to paint, drill and mount, wire and put back together so back to work now.

Another job well done.
It wasn't so long ago that we saw some barely recognizable old parts scattered around your shop and now you have transformed them into what we see here!
Excellent work.

Thanks guys and the pole and motor are messed up. The paint separated causing a cool effect so I left it but that was a total mistake.

Nines: that over thinned green with the black showing through on the steel round tubing looks awesome. you might not like it up close as well, but I really like the different look of it.

we all have enough screw ups and Nines has mentioned many if you want to read more of his thread. i think his learning curve has created less mistakes and even a mistake like over thinning his paint turned out ok.

Did you forget to mention if the saw works great or did i miss that?

did the people show up to pay you and pick up the Coke machine or did you take the vintage one in trade?

cheers

Waiting on bearings, should be today or tomorrow.

Couple years after my HS graduation, my best friend's little brother and his friend test drove a new truck at a dealership in the next town over. They went and had a key made for it while they were test driving it. Over the weekend, they went back to the closed dealership and drive the truck off the lot straight to a convenience store to steal the ATM as you mentioned. They messed up and backed over a parking curb and the truck got stuck between it and the sidewalk so they bailed. The dealerships back then would photo copy anyones drivers license that test drove a vehicle so they only had to look back at the records to find who did it. Stupid kids got a few years for that one, had to pay serious fines and damage to the store/vehicle, all for a few thousand dollars at most. ***** better have a billion dollars in it for me to think about stealing it.

I remember that!

Drives, it's not that I don't like it cause I do, it's just that it was not planned to come out that way. Total mistake but I like it and will be rocking it for now.

Too cold to paint so it may be another week before I can get this thing back together totally but it will give me time to finish the motor. I'm still hoping the motor actually works, I never tested it before I tore in to it and started rebuilding it so IDK what to expect. If it don't work I am screwed and have to find another matching motor, I won't use a non-correct motor on there.

Looks good, dude! Do you like the blue tires? I used the same ones and they installed fine, have yet to cut with them though.

Did you have a hard time getting the wheels aligned? I ended up having to space the lower bearing out about 1/32" or more to get things yard-stick-perfect.

JZiggy, I have restored 6 Rockwell/Delta, 2 Oliver, 1 Northfield, and Jet and Grizzly bandsaws and I have had to shim them all.

Nines, digging the color as well!

Nines: good luck on the motor and maybe a few pics of the motor if it doesn't work so maybe one of us might be able to ship you one if we have an extra one?

nice work on the Coke machine sale. did the machine really fall on the buyer's helper or was that your friend holding it up with his forearms?

Looks great as usual bro. It makes me long for being able to start doing this stuff again. This last year has been total hell for me as far as dealing with life causing me to put hobby's way back on the list. I sold my house last year, which was a constant chore to keep up with in hopes of more free time, only to move into a house full of work. I guess I didn't consider the "settling in" of a new house to make it a home. I plan to make 2016 different on that aspect though. I am starting learn again how to make life and hobbies fit in at the same time:thumbup:

Great job (as usual) but...
We're getting bored with your successful projects.
Please **** something up and post pictures so the rest of us can relate.

That right there is so true, it's kinda funny.

Thanks guys!

JZ, I have not run it under it's own power so idk if I need to shim it or not yet.

Drives, the buyer's helper had the appliance dolly walking backwards up the ramp and when the tires hit the bottom of the ramp, the machine stopped and dropped on to the guy. He casually said grab it as me and the other guy was doing and we lifted it off of him. He immediately snatched it up the ramp and onto the trailer. I would hate to tussle with him in a dark alley.

The band saw looks great, I wish I was doing something cool like that, I keep getting involved in messy, overly complicated projects that just don't look cool in the end.

I've done 3 saws with urethane tires and very happy with them. Next up is putting them on the 14" Delta.

Strouty, this should have been a two day project, maybe three in my spare time but it's turned in to a nightmare of parts shuffling. I'm ready for it to be over with so I can clean up. I have several parts left over that got cleaned up to be put on the saw and now I see they do not even belong on this saw, my place needs a fresh start...I keep looking at things thinking whether or not I can live without them at the shop, I want to take a bunch of **** to storage but then I ask myself if it's worth paying to store and will I even use it since I would need to get it from storage to use then put it back afterwards. I need to purge and I feel it coming on.

Craptain, I have them no my 14" Delta and love them. I cut metal with it, this one will be my all wood saw.

Thanks, good to know. With the blade installed and tensioned I had the lower wheel about 1/8" too far in with respect to the upper wheel. I spaced the lower bearing with ground down c-clips to take up some of the difference. I also took out the big center c-clip in the upper wheel and pressed one bearing in a little more so it would sit closer in, taking up the rest of the difference.

Do you expect the orientations of the wheels to change significantly during running vs. just with the blade tensioned?

Improper tension can certainly affect alignment but it could also be from the crown (or lack there) of the wheel. It's usually not as noticeable or significant on 1/8-1/4" blades but if your running larger blades the impact becomes more pronounced and increases wear not only on the wheel bearings but also on the guide bearings or blocks depending on the guide setup.

First up is finish off the band saw project so I can scratch that off the list. Once I get that done I'll start the purge. I don't plan to take on any other projects until I get the place organized, unless they directly pertain to the organization effort.

I can totally relate Nines, Today I passed on a really cool Black and Decker bench grinder; I don't need a 14th, as tempted as i was. I'm trying my best to get rid of the stuff I will never really use.

Thanks guys! I semi-started the purge already. A new friend and now member Merc mentioned he was going to buy a HF end cabinet for his grinders and I had a Mac side cabinet that I "planned" to do the same with. Truth be told, I don't need another grinder stand, it was just cool so I "wanted" it. I decided to offer it to him and let someone that needs it use it. When he came by to check it out, I unloaded a bunch of Craftsman hand tools on him that I had collected that were duplicates. He got a good deal and I freed up some space.

It's just the beginning, I hope to be clutter free or at least clutter under control by the end of Feb for my birthday. I want you guys to hold me to it!

Nines: RIGHT ON :thumbup::thumbup:

post your goals on the weight loss thread so we'll have that group helping you too. and i'll post it on post #13 with the weights to monitor your success with either plus or minus signs for the week depending on your progress. ok?

i sold another vise today and met a great guy that might also be a member.

can you still start a TO DO list even if you don't have a white board?

Lies! You seemed agreeable to the two projects I offered you. Though one can store / organize things so we'll call it a push?

Seeing your shop, I'm envious of the space you have. But I get it, as you do a lot more than I would do with it given my current profession and skill set. I'm already scaring up wood for the top and bottom of that side cabinet. Soon it should be on casters and be home to both my buffer and grinder. I much appreciate the dibs on the Craftsman stuff; after a quick glance through it all several holes were filled in the first set that I checked.

And I was going to ask about that snap on set you have on Ebay as I need another good six point set. I checked it before I went into the shop, and saw that the price had doubled since yesterday.

 In my defense, I accepted the cycle seat prior to my shop organization revaluations and you know I almost turned down the tool box project until you twisted my arm. :D I mean, who in their right mind would turn down a Proto box?!?!

Be sure to post up that cabinet when you get it finished. I'm sure lots of guys here will want to see what you do with it.

Snap On? :ninja: shhhh

I'll get a pic shortly Bagged, the one on the band saw is original but I have one on my belt sander that I made myself. I'll show you both versions.
