Thanks WarrenJ! Here is a sneak peak at what I have been working on lately.

It's an old Kennedy 20" carry box I just refinished.

Damn, THAT is very cool. Great job. Is the inside and tray done in the same manner?

PA in a can. Remember my dad using that, many years ago.

Why yes, I do have Prince Albert in a can :lol_hitti

Thanks man, no insides or tray. I was going to do a red velvet felt inside on the craftsman, maybe a cream or brown in the Kennedy.

Nice work. Looks like that took some serious time.

Thanks man, yes they took forever but I really like the results!!

Thanks guys, give it a shot Rick, you can use family pics or what ever to make it "yours".
Here is the rest of the Kennedy, I posted the entire Craftsman in the Crown Top Thread.

I finally got around to fixing the old parts cabinet I got last year. It was rusted out on the bottom left side, to the point that one drawer was completely toasted. I whipped out the plasma cutter and straight edge, then cut the bottom row of drawers off and had a usable cabinet 5 mins later. :D It fits perfect on top of the file cabinet keeps everything in reaching distance.

What plasma do you have Nine? Looks like you couldn't ask for a better fit between the two cabinets. I'm still in awe of your custom file cabinet turned tool box on the right there.

I have a lil 110v Miller Spectrum Thunder I got on a deal late last year, it cuts most anything I need it to though I would like to eventually upgrade to a 220v model. The cabinets are both the same width, the bottom file cabinet is 3.5" deeper, worked out well  The file cabinet/tool box is my main table top and gets used daily, not to mention being packed full of tools I use frequently. It's hanging in there well, thanks!

Few more minutes with the plasma and I cut that 6" jointer stand down to fit the shaper I got this past weekend. The 6" jointer had a broken part and was HUGE so rather than sink myself farther in debt on a tool that would rarely get used and take up lots of space, I made the executive decision to part it out and repurpose the motor and stand. The motor is going on the pipe stand with my disc/belt sander but that's another post. I will cut a piece of wood to isolate the shaper from the metal stand and allow it to be bolted down in all 3 stock locations, then rewire and freshen up the paint/metal work.

94 you have more metal drawers than most any 10 garages. I thought I had a lot. that repair job you just did to save the one with the rusted bottom is amazing. still plenty solid so you can load it with stuff or is that going to hold all the light things like wire and plastic?

sweet looking shop from what little I see and can hardly wait to see what that shaper looks like. when you posted it on your huge YOU **** deal did you get all those bits with it too?

 Here is the wall with my file cabinets. Ignore the xmas colored pallet rack, this one is temporary, a 3' deep would be perfect so I am working on a free upgrade. I plan on building a toe kick riser and taking the wheels off so the file cabinets are all the same height. Maybe paint the faces when I go to set them on the riser.
That metal cabinet will be great for things like tape, tubes of adhesives, baggies, staples, screws etc and I will have room for some to hold "current project" hardware so it doesn't get misplaced. I have been reorganizing like crazy in here this year, hope to have more room and get all these machine working that I picked up last year. The shaper bits were included with the shaper, along with some other accessories for it all for $15 :shocking:

I bought a cabinet just like the lower one in the pic. Does yours seem a little "light duty" compared to how it looks? I had a guy contact me via my wanted CL ad, wanting to sell it. He sent me some pics and said it was "heavy duty". I talked him down $20 from his asking price and he agreed to meet me about 18 miles from his house. (half way between us). He showed up in a falling apart truck, barely had any shoes on and had his wife and dirty faced kid in the truck with him. I was not too impressed with it once I saw it in person. Had the situation been different I would have walked away from it. But I felt he needed the money more than me.
Anyway, I now own it and have it stuck outside behind my boat waiting to do something with it. It is on some decent casters but is missing a couple handles and one door hinges is bent.

It's definitely a middle weight, not as heavy as some but still better than current China ****. You got a deal, had you said "He showed up in a falling apart truck, barely had any shoes on and his dirty *** dog was in the truck with him...." I would have thought you were talking about me :lol_hitti

Well my hopes were to replace this with the cabinet like yours

until I found this.....

Once I restore this old war era cabinet, I will move the big cabinet outside to store gasoline and bulk paint thinner and used oil.

Fyrme, I have an outside cab for some chemicals. I finally gave up on storing anything in that cabinet that wasn't contained in plastic. The metal containers just rust out too fast due to condensation and what not. Also my cab is not steel, it's aluminum, (an old traffic controller box) so while it does not rust, the cans inside do. I have it on a north facing wall, so no sun on it, another consideration, as if the sun is on a metal cabinet, the temps go ballistic... High temps and gasoline... Not good!

I'm playing musical chairs with these machines. The 4" jointer below will eventually get rebuilt and be part of a easy swap multi tool base project that will be coming up soon. I already had plans for the pole base when I saw it in the ad, I am using it and the motor from the 6" jointer stand posted above, to build a period correct disc/belt sander that will get used more frequently.
pic00812.jpg

First thing I had to do was build a metal motor mount and get rid of that homemade wood one. Working with what I had, I cut a sheet of steel scrap and notched a piece of tubing left over from a treadmill, then welded them together and drilled mounting holes. Next I cut some u-bolts down to fit the bracket, I had to use the spacers backwards because the thread are not long enough to bolt it directly to the pole and this is what I had on hand.

That's what it will look like once I fab a sander mount, still rounding up free materials :lol_hitti

That looks AWESOME nine. I have some vintage car mags that I could use. I even have a few local newspaper articles where good friends of mine got busted doing dumb sh!t from back in the day. That would top it off just right:D.

9Four,

The motor mount, if you can incorporate a hinge in the design (4" door hinge works well), you can use th motor's own weight as a tensioner for the belt, and minimize the adjusting needed to deal with bets. you can also more easily swap tools out since the motor can be lifted to change belt or tool.

Wow. Awesome idea Outlaw. I have the same situation going on for a light duty 2" belt sander and was thinking turnbuckles etc...1 hinge welded to the motor plate is mucho better. Thanks!

The sander will be permanently mounted on this stand so I can tension the belt simply by lowering the motor on the pole. I do have a heavy duty hinge set aside for the multi tool base I will be building soon. It will be cabinet with wood top large enough for a router table/miter saw but have a motor under neath to drive my jointer and planers. Looking for the right cabinet to sacrifice, already have the wood.

I hear ya Outlaw. I'm only doing because I have to. I'm running out of room and figured out that file cabinets are a way more efficent way to store spray paint. As long as you keep the cap on the can, you can identify the colors so much easier that shuffling cans around on a shelf to get to the one in the back. With the three drawer, I can store 3x as much paint in a fraction of the real estate. I'm hoping the cabinet contents will not rust on me. It will face east, against the side of the house, under the eave. I had the original vents blocked off creating a fireproof cabinet indoors, but I'm thinking about re-venting the doors at the top to allow heat to escape. The cabinet is designed for outdoors and is vented in a weather resistant manner. I'll keep an eye on it.

I'm playing musical chairs with these machines.

I have all but stopped buying tools to restore for now, until I get some done and moved on to a new home. It hard though. I've pretty much had to just stay off CL all together lol.

I can't really take credit for it: Oldtimers did that all the time for power tools. I simply "borrowed" it and freely share it!

Thanks Outlaw, yes glue, top coat and lots of time. I used a flat clear on the Kennedy and a satin finish on the Craftsman to check the difference. I kind of like the satin more but from 10' or so you can't tell the difference anyway.

Those boxes are just awesome cool. Curious what glue you used. I would think metal to paper would be tricky, without the right adhesive.

Oh, I've already gone vertical, but have found my self needing the floor space below for larger tools. I "need" a sand blast cabinet,a sheet metal brake, and a place to put my wood lathe. But as you can see here.....
9861360256_0e8ff0028d_o.jpg

I'm already making use of the floor and the space above it, all the way down to fractions of an inch.LMAO! I've had to take out some shelving to make room for the bigger floor stuff. There's olny so much **** you can stuff into a 10lb sack. One of my next evictions will be the commercial power washer. When I get the dog house for my compressor done, it will house the washer and the compressor. It will be a heated room in the winter and have a flue built into it for the washer burner.

i'm already on board with the racking, but love the lighting you set up. nice work AGAIN.
Those are 3 bulb t5 lamps, screwed to two 2x4's each so I can move them independently from the shelving. Makes seeing things I'm working on easier!

Same here, my friends always ask, how'd you find that deal? My answer is, I looked for it ;) I'm not out chasing women, I don't go to bars or watch sports, I have lots of free time to search for things I like.

Nine4 - you do fine work and a lot of it. Great thread!

Thanks for posting!

Nice save on that multi drawer cabinet. Did you have to reframe the bottom?
No, if you look at the piece I cut off, the only difference is the actual bottom had a piece of 1" same gauge steel 90* angle along the sides and rear that I plan to replace before I paint it. It's mainly to keep the large panels from bowing out, does not affect vertical support. I'm still trying to decide if I want to satin clear it as-is or paint it up to match my red/black theme.

It's a good - bad habit....or something like that ;)

You can fit a blast cabinet where the p washer is, good luck fitting a brake in there. I ended up having to sell my box brake in December from lack of space and now I need it to finish a few projects, fml :lol_hitti

I've run into a few of that type of table saw, does the saw say King Seeley on it? If I find another one I'll let you know.
