Nines: with the fan and new sleeping schedule it might take you a while to adjust, but i bet you'll start feeling better. the shop is looking great.

i bet you are happy to be done with all that red upholstering for now until he brings it back for Phase II of the restoration.

what's on the list for the week or day?

cheers

What's up DLC, just finished a refurb on the Craftsman sander motor, it was bogging down and full of ****. I replaced all the wiring outside the coil and put some new sealed bearings in, new heavy cord and painted it up. It ran so quiet on the bench I thought it was not on until I touched the shaft. I got it back on the machine and it's clear I need to do the sander next. :lol_hitti

Hey Nines, I just went through the same pain changing out bearings in a CM 1951 1/2hp. Did you find it pretty easy to rewire? I just tried to leave everything as it was.

Kind of amazing that the capacitor still works too, when you think about it.

Yes, this one was real easy to rewire. I cut the old wires just past the solder at the windings and used the solder gun to release the remainder. After that, I just soldered a new wire on and used a short piece of heat shrink to cover the solder connection. Be sure to do them ONE WIRE AT A TIME or you may end up regretting it(speaking from experience). Real amazing the capacitors work on these old motors, I have had one bad flat style cap in the several motors I have done, that motor just got set aside since I have more.

I'm trying to get a feel of where I need to run my outlets on the other side of my shop and have been cleaning/organizing along the way. I had this old seat cover from a 66 Mustang that I saved when redoing a car a while back for just this kind of reason. I was looking at the new layout of my sewing table and it hit me, make a sewing machine cover out of it.

Upcycled 66 Mustang seat cover becomes sewing machine cover:

Hey, thanks rmalkow2!

Thanks DLC, I decided to break out the paint brushes and throw down on this paper towel dispenser old school style before hanging it. It's been a long time since I hand painted anything so don't laugh, plus I'm not finished, I'm deciding what's going on next.

Oh man! No laughing at all as I can totally relate. I'm trying to re-kindle this desire to learn a little painting and pin striping. Never have done very much but always had the desire.
The eyeball looks great.

Awesome job on the old school painting Nines.

I noticed on a couple posts ago you mentioned needing to get a CFL for your DP shop light and I have a recommendation. I switched to LED bulbs for my grinder and DP lights and for 60W worth of light they only draw 4W, they have no heat, and also aren't bothered by vibrations.

No more CFLs for me.

Thanks guys! Good idea Mooar, I forget LEDs are becoming affordable now and different colors. I usually like 4k-4500k in the shop.

Moving right along, only one side left, still trying to decide what will go there. I changed the V8 side twice, this is the third rendition I finally got tired of trying and just went with it.

No boring towels in your shop. I love it and think you did a great job and the drop shadowing give the images good depth. Very creative. I'm gonna have to experiment with some actual images like that rather than just lettering and simple pin striping.

That's looking good Nine. I appreciate that kind of work even though my own artistic skills come in areas other than a paint brush and such.

The looks good it's just too bad there's no real pin up girl to hand you towels. I guess we all wish for that. LOL

Well, that would be fun for about a day and then I'd have to fire her to make room for "just one more tool box"!!!:)

The good thing about a life size pin up, she could hold smaller boxes and sit on larger boxes as to not take up any more room. All about organization rmalkow! ;)

Has this become the new "fun" thread. Nines, I like it. Back on NPT this week huh? So that means we should be talking at some point. What's on your plate this week, and how did the weekend turn out? Was it as bad as you thought it was going to be?

Nines: did you do all that painting freehand? even the pin up girl? i know your weather has been crummy most of the year so maybe getting your shop like you want it might help you smile. i'd smile taking paper towels from something like that. do a bit more instead of those day time naps.

cheers bud and BTW your Man Card was never in jeopardy because i still see a little rust on your towel dispenser.

DLC, Idk about fun thread but it has been active the last few days. I don't think I'll make it NPT, I ended up staying up late again last night and sleeping late today. It's a vicious circle. : lol: the weekend didn't go as planned, though it wasn't good either so in a way, I was right. No big plans this week, I still have to finish cleaning out the two storages for my friend, still gotta run the circuits in the shop and need to get by the junkyard one day too but it's supposed to rain the next few days...

Drives, yes it's all freehand. It's been a couple decades since I sat down and really tried drawing/painting so I struggled through this the whole way. When I was younger, I could whip this work out in a jiffy and it would have been 10x better. I did use the computer to find the images I wanted to use, then sketched it on and painted it. If I can see it, I can draw it, some things I can see in my head without a computer or visual reference but some things I need to actually look at like the pin up girl. The crown and lettering was done without reference, the other things were google images that I looked at then drew/painted. I've been depressed lately, that's why I put "have a nice day" on the front, kind of a reminder to myself.
There's definitely some rust, I pulled this from my scrap guys trailer a while back and had it in the garage sale closet until the other day when I was putting stuff in there and saw it, then I had the idea to put it to use. All I did was wipe it down with a wet rag, then scuff the panels that were getting art. It will get a clear coat over rust and all before I hang it.
Thanks for dropping in guys!
