It looks much nicer now that it's out of my garage. Now I want it back? I kid, I kid. I wish my wife would go for that sort of look in the house. Originally I was going to mount that small CM table saw that I found in the trash to it, but I didn't have a properly sized motor for it and threw it in with that PowerMatic Jointer deal (that, and I'm lazy).

What about taking the veneer / thin board off of the top? I know it's not veneer in the traditional sense but there should be solid wood beneath the 1/8" - 5/16" board on top, right? I'm assuming it's the same wood that's on the intermediate shelf, which looked like pine to me.

The top and shelf are solid wood, with a masonite top. I pulled the nails out of the top piece and removed it to check it out. The real wood top is not wuite wide enough to make it front to back so they used a thin slice across the front, plus it's split from drying out over the years on one edge so it's not really an option. The shelf is two pieces of solid wood with a masonite top and a couple stringers nailing the two pieces together. If I want to see nice wood, I'll have to replace it but I'm pretty sure I will end up leaving it as is. The woman said she don't care what I do with it, I mentioned using it to hold the receiver and tv box etc in the living room and she said it would be better than sitting on the floor like it is now so that's an option but to do that I would really like to refinish it like I did the bookcase. For now, it will stay as-is and I will let the decision "come to me" when I'm ready.

When I hang art I don't always just drive a hanger. I have to let the decision "come to me"

Glad to see I'm not the only one that decided things by that method.

Then it sounds like you made the right choice, especially since the top / shelf will be occupied. As previously mentioned, it will only be original once. Only thing I did was tighten everything up and replace the lead washers with steel ones...think I still have them around if you want. They were a bit of a head scratcher.

The big adoption gala thingy is tomorrow so things will be crazy but I should be able to grab the press this weekend so that the handle on that vise can be straightened. You going to oil or clear it?

Going to oil it, keep it dark but bare metal. I can probably meet up with you sometime this weekend if you just want to take the handle and screw to the press. Either way that's easier for you. If you straighten it in the screw, I can just clean it up from there but if you can't straighten it, maybe you can press one end of the shaft off and we can either make a new shaft or put that one in the forge and try straightening it hot.

Any excuse to fire that forge up...I'm almost leaning that way :) I'll let you know when I grab it, either tomorrow afternoon or Sunday afternoon.

Artist minded. I can't make moves without "seeing" them in my head first. Sometimes I see it when I look at something, sometimes it will take years before it hits me but just about every time I rush into a decision, I later regret it.

The book case sat around for a long time before I redid it and I'm glad it did, it came out great imo. It was rough when I got it, new paint and upholstery and it's a centerpiece in the living room now. On the other hand, I had a cabinet a while back that I redid and ended up selling it because I realized too late that I liked it better before, with all the character it had. Some things need restoring, some don't that's why I'm torn on this one. Everything in the living room will be fresh, but this but is it worth it to restore it, I think not at this time. I will set it aside and ponder what to do with it, it will come to me when it comes.

Hey Butthead, if Strouty won't drink your beer, I will. And I don't even care if you give me the old ones after a few new ones. After a few, I don't even have a preference of what kind of beer it is. I do like it cold though.

How's the rain down there? I hear you're getting pounded.

I'll post a pic from my phone later, im on the tablet but it's been some serious storms the past few days here. Its steady light rain now, yards are saturated, ditches full and overflowing, there's a lot of water around.

Finally picked up that press, so ready to go on that part. Weather ***** so I hope it doesn't rain before I get off of work...not that it's any gem.

I think a guy is coming in from MS to buy that Baldor tomorrow...might try to offload some more things to him too. As a result I'll be around the house for a couple of hours or home around 6 any night.

So the question is...are you going to tell me what it actually sells for? :willy_nil

Shame you couldn't get the pallet rack inside so you could get high, I mean paint it.

Hope you dry out sooner rather than later, it is pretty soggy here today, but it is supposed to get a bit better.

Thanks Strouty, supposed to rain here tomorrow too

Merc, I'll spruce it up and you can sell it if you want. I was going to cl it high and wait for offers.

Thanks PSYKO! I'm actually straight on expired beer, just drop those covers in a box with a blank check then send them over and I'll knock them out for you. ;)

For some reason the pleats on the back of the front seat are deep from the factory so I mimicked that look on the new panels.

They're so nice looking that I won't want to sit on them. Won't that be the irony of it all. I have you make new ones for me because I didn't want a blanket to cover the rips and now I'll throw a blanket over them to protect them.

I hear that often, "oh, they're too nice to sit on now".

I guess I could make them less nice, if you want. :lol_hitti

One friend said that to me and I told him seats are made for asses, he should have no problem using them.

But seriously though, they're just seats, use them and enjoy them.

Now that is one awesome table, I would love to have it! If I had it I would restore it, Maybe paint it with some cool 50's colors like 1957 Chevy turquoise and some dark stain on the new top and maybe even some black pinstripes. It would be beautiful sitting in the house, it would be a great conversation piece! but I wouldn't cover it up with a TV. Damn, just forget what I said and send it up to me and I will take care of it

Bears, I pretty much wiped it down with a wet rag and stuck it in the living room to hold the electronics for now. I kinda want to redo it but something is telling me to leave well enough alone for a while.

Dan, you and me both. I was teasing my girl with her new nickname of Maw Maw(she's a grandmother now) and she lovingly referred to me as AssPaw... :lol_hitti

Strouty, I tried to get him go back pink instead but he mentioned something about them all being pink on the inside and unfortunately the customer is always right... And thanks man, if you need any pointers or have any questions about anything, just ask and I will be happy to help if I can. Post up the front of your machines when you get a chance, I know you mentioned needing to move some things around to get to them and you have been making good progress at your shop but IDK if it was in the area the machines were in.

Here are the two upper front seat patterns, minus the listings. They are basically mirror images of one another so there are at least two pieces of vinyl stacked back to back for each pattern piece you see. This pic was from the other day, I have all the padded parts sewn to foam now and panels are being fitted together. These are the harder of the seat patterns to make so I jumped on them first. The lower front seat, upper and lower rear seat are much easier and if I don't jinx myself, should go fast.

Lisa is looking at these and saying "SWEET" She wants the car done so we can go to the local drive in diner with it. We just got the new carpets about 5 minutes ago. They look awesome. I'll be calling you in the next day or two for your advise on fitting them properly.

How are those carpets looking Dan?

Strouty, did you get a chance to post those machines?

I'm done with the hard part, both upper front seat backs are finito.

WOW. Awesome Nines. I knew I was having the right person do those for me. They look factory (probably better) I've been letting the carpets "rest". Being rolled up in a box put a lot of wrinkles in them. I'll be posting pictures in my thread when I put them in. Are we still in the ball park on the estimate? Should I be looking to sell off some stuff to cover the seat cover project? Seriously, I'm getting excited thinking that I may actually be driving it before this summer ends.:dunno:

You are using your subconscious.

I do that when designing buildings, landscaping, really anything.

Look at the existing conditions and project goals and then just let the mind find it's own way. The solution becomes very clear at some point, as if conjured from thin air.

In interior design, contrast is needed along with complementary objects. A matching set is the most boring solution. I could see it as a contrast to all the finished pieces. Add a few smaller unfinished or rustic items to the room to tie in with this, and it will be a counterpoint to the refinished and refined things.

Those seat covers look great, can't wait to seem them on the car, I am sure DLC can't either.

Hope the back is doing better today, as for the sewing machines, I completely spaced it. I will post some better pictures today.

Thanks Strouty, back is more sore today but no sharp pains so I should be fine in a day or so.

Interesting theory Bill, possibly need more LSD so my subconscious will work more! :lol_hitti

Dan, I'll know more later this weekend but so far so good. I should be able to get them out early next week, get that carpet out on a flat surface in the sun for a day and that will help.

Hopefully your day was better than mine, damn cold and on the warmest day yet. I did post pictures of the sewing machines, I should have separated them, one post for each, but I think you will get the idea.

Nines, no worries. They look fantastic. I will be looking forward to the final outcome. And I'll make sure Strouty sees them on. I hope I can be (semi) professional with the installation. A lot of pictures and will call you for advice if I run into a senior citizen moment. But now I have to get off my a$$ and finish the body work and make this project come to the front. THASNKS A LOT. (I won't be able to blame you anymore). Be talking to you soon.
