I sold the shaper to a guy from Houma (same amount as the Atlas mill). It sat up on CL for a week or so.

Just had my step son pick up some mill stuff for me in Houston, where he lives. Got a 6" mill vise, an older angle mill vise, and an 8" Yuasa super spacer with tail stock. Never heard of it before but it is a rotary table/ indexer combo.

Oh, and don't feel bad about having to undo stuff you already did. I changed the bearings in the back gear assembly and forgot a wavy washer. I had to press it all back apart to put it in. Similar bearing arrnangement to the spindle. Bearing - snap ring - wavy washer - spacer - snap ring - bearing.

In reality to put the head back together, mistakes and all, took me a good 10 hours. Whole lot of gears to make power feed work.

And I cheated and bought the rebuild book - been a life saver.

Sounds like you scored on that tooling, the seller was trying to get me to buy a 12" rotary table with my Bridgeport but the way he was acting was shady and I passed on it. He only wanted $200-250, looking back I wish I had done it... If it were local I would have jumped on it.

You looking at that queen city grinder in Covington? I think he got that from a recent auction, though I've no clue what me might have paid. Looks like he has two and has no way to test them as they're three phase. Since they've been posted for 30 days with no action I'd lowball the heck out of him. That's assuming you've got a VFD or phase converted, but I think I recall you do for use with your new Bridgeport.

I've been hunting them for 1.5 years and I've only ever seen two actually posted on CL around here. One was a 1 HP with the HD base and one was a 1/2 HP with a pipe stand. I've also lucked into three others (One 1 HP and the others 1/3) through being at the right place at the right time aside from that.

I actually have a CL ad posted looking for them but haven't gotten any meaningful responses. They're out there, but it would appear that not as many are down south. I'll hit you up if I see any listed in your neck of the woods.

I have seen the Queen City in CL. That's some terrible paint job.....
The one I'm actually looking at it a 12" Delta that was at a work shop I stopped at that was selling stuff last weekend. It is 240 single phase. He wants 300 also. They had some interesting stuff for sale - someone got to all the end mills the day before. It was listed in the Garage Sales section of CL.
Not sure where in the garage I would put it.... need to have a sale day myself.

I must be getting old, it took me two days just to get the top, table and base apart on this thing

Also had to "cut" the chuck off of the spindle. The original owner had booger welded it on pretty good, I broke two cut off blades on the lathe before chucking a 1/4" HSS bit in and taking light cuts. The spindle was bent causing lots of run out, a few minutes with a brass hammer and it's down to what you see here.

Got the Delta down to bare metal, etch primed and a few coats of smoke gray. :thumbup

I'm going with safety red in the oil/t-slot grooves on the production table.

I don't see doing any transparent at this time but I will check out those names you mentioned. Thanks!

The Delta drill press is coming along nicely so I decided to tackle the pole finally. Also found some higher quality precision instrument bearings to replace the standard old machine bearings so I may have this thing back together sooner than expected. Stay Tuned!

Not to disappoint, it's kind of hard to tell from the pic but the clip is screwed and this is the second, less damaged one. I got the Delta DP halfway mocked up and realized that I had messed up the order that things need to be reassembled. While banging parts loose, I forgot about a set screw and bent the **** out of a clip and damaged a brand new bearing having to reorder another. As soon as I got the new bearing in, I jumped right on assembly again getting farther along than the first time. It hit me again, I had to bang everything back apart to put another part on that should have went on before everything else. That's when I damaged the other clip, luckily I remembered the set screw and did not damage the new bearing the second time.

So third time is a charm right, wrong... I get the DP all put back together again only to notice that the motor mount needed to go on before the belt guard and so EVERYTHING had to come apart once more.... I get the machine back apart and hang the motor mount in place, put everything back together to find that the motor mount has too much play, someone used roll pins in the bolt holes and it needs to be fixed. I grab the roll pin with some vise grips and try to twist/pull it out, it breaks off even with the bolt hole. This bolt hole is only like 3/4"-1" deep and ends solid in the casting, I can not access the roll pin from the back to drive it out to I go to drilling on it. Several bits later, one breaks off in the roll pin so then there is a spring steel roll pin with a HS drill bit broke off in it filling the hole. I fiddled with it and some easy outs and finally got the drill bit tip out reopening the roll pin hole. By now, I'm going nuts in this biotch.

I found a cutter tip screw that barely fit the inside of the roll pin and thought I could use it to pull the pin out by gripping the inside, I ran it in and what happens.... It breaks off filling the roll pin hole again and that brings me to now where unless I can get this **** out, the Delta head is trash... it's already so screwed it needs repainting but I'm not wasting any more time prettying it until I find out if I can save it.

I first pulled this drill press apart on 4/5/14 and I'm finally getting around to fixing it. After s few hours of trying different methods to get the roll pin out, I finally just welded a bolt into the hole, cut the head off and touched up the threads. The motor mount is ready for action now, waiter no to hear back on a power plant for this sucker right now!

And this was a unexpected upgrade project. I saw a 80 gal Compressor listed as "bad reed valve in center cylinder" and ended up buying it for $200. The pump was partially disassembled and in a shoe box. I brought it home and started looking for solutions. I made a couple gaskets and put it back together. Sure enough the center cylinder was blowing hot air instead of sucking. A little more googlefu then back out to the shop to take it apart again. This time the head comes apart and I see the problem plain as day, the inner gasket(didn't know about) was blown out. Made a third gasket, put it back together and now I have a like new(minus the dings) 80gal compressor. To sweeten my mood, I just sold my old 60gal for $200 to Metc's buddy so it was a free upgrade!!

Back to the big Delta drill press. I got the go ahead on the motor situation and will be converting it to a 2hp 3ph with VFD. The motor was for hvac or something and didn't have any mounting provisions. I recycled/repurposed the thick square plate from the hole I cut in the Delta band saw for the vfd as the mounting plate for the 3ph motor. I just bent it up in a vise with a drilling hammer and welded it on making sure to clock the electrical in the right orientation. I have to order a couple switches and some wiring but this project is coming to and end soon.

For motors, I made friends with a guy that owns a bunch of fitness machines in commercial gyms. He has given me a few motors and they are all either DC or 3 phase. Both are good for projects like yours.

I spent a good 4hrs last night painting and installing the motor, pulley and belt on the big Delta but it's all done now except the VFD & wiring.

I bought my Bridgeport right in the middle of the kitchen overhaul. I wasn't allowed in the shop "until the kitchen is done". It's taken 5 months. Still a couple of little odds and ends to do but told the wife I had to go get some "shop time". I was so burned out working on the house everyday after work. I think she finally understands - at least this time - haha.

I got the head rebuild done the ther day so I have been tackling the little stuff in the kitchen to appease the boss this week. Tomorrow plan on sneaking out to finishing up the bracket for the VFD and powering it up to make sure it is all in working order.

Good job on the drill press Shayne. My mid 30's DP220 is still kicking along - my nephew has been using it for an engineering project for school (can't seem to get my own kids out there though?).

Working on remote mounting the VFD key pad and face plate on the front panel of the pull box. The vfd will be inside with a fan and holes for circulation and there will be a power switch, power light and potentiometer sharing the front panel with the vfd key pad.

I have one on the band saw, one on the drill press now and one for the milling machine. I will be ordering another soon for the other band saw once I get ready to go through it. I can't vouch for how long they last or how they stack up against any other VFD but I do know they work and until there's a problem, I will continue to use them.

Make sure you set the motor frequency parameter and the startup frequency parameter and you should have no problems. I don't know what the difference is between these and the higher price brands but it does everything I need it to so far.

Wow, so it's been a crazy week. I sold the corvette rear end, sold the vfd band saw, sold the sander and sold the civic. My scrap guy came by and filled his trailer up with junk I've been saving and picking up for him too so the yard is starting to get cleaned up, at least the metal stuff. I will be doing some of my least favorite projects this week, getting the lawn mowers, weed eater/blower and generator etc running. For some reason small engines antagonize me. I also want to swap out the other pallet rack, I have two chairs and a trunk that needs upholstery, the small Delta drill press is still in a million pieces so that needs finishing. I'm waiting on a couple switches to finish the mill vfd enclosure wiring so it's on standby. I'd like to put the gear box on the horizontal mill this week too but I have lots of work in the house to do as well. This will be a busy week, stay tuned.

I finally found a base to start building my welding cart from. This was a heavy printer/plotter thing I got from the auction last month, no one bid so it got thrown in with the next lot that I won so it was a freebie. I'll be welding hose hooks where the c clamps are and I still have to fabricate a way to hold two bottles on back, one tall and one short. I will also be wiring it with electric outlets and a whip for the smaller welder and accessories. I want to put a tool box or couple drawers on it too so it may get more tweaks as I go. This is where I'm at today, the long ends sticking out back will be trimmed off.

Oh yeah, disregard the casters, those will be changed out for a pair of 10" solid wheels in back and locking casters in front.

Nice. I built a welding cart from a projector cart that I got at an auction for $5. It was new, and still in the box. However, it was a bit tipsy for me, so I changed it out to a much more stable cart that has 8" wheels on back and swivel casters on front. Not I can literally just push it and it will roll across the shop with no fear of it tipping over. A much more comforting feeling when you've got a bunch of money sitting on it plus high pressure bottles.

Thanks guys, I thought I was going to work on it today but mom came by for lunch and I've been running around ever since. Hoping to finish it tomorrow and get back on other projects.

ok, so I made an axle for this rig using a length of 1/2" black pipe and 5/8" grade 8 bolts. I cut the heads off the bolts and hammered them into the pipe to the correct length, then welded them in. They would have been a slip fit but the pipe has a seam inside so it's a tight fit.


I also welded on caster plates in the front. I went with 10" flat free wheels from HF in the rear and 4" swivel/brake casters from Home Depot in front. They are 1/16" from level in this configuration with the front being higher.



Here I bent and welded some scrap flat bar for a handle that doubles as a lead guard on front for the mig and plasma up top. Then I bent and welded some lead hangers that tuck under neath for the mig and plasma.
