If you poke a hole in the filter, then you can't reuse it. I clean mine out with brake cleaner, The oil gets filtered with a doubled up coffee filter and I am good to go for another 15k miles!

Used motor oil is carcinogenic. You don’t want it on your skin if at all possible.

I kinda figured its certainly not good for me at the very least :(

Opinions vary.

Used gasoline engine oil is carcinogenic.. used diesel engine oil isn't, so says the US National Library of Medicine. It's your tax dollars at work: Carcinogenic potential of gasoline and diesel engine oils.

More here: Here's How All Of The Fluids In Your Car Can Kill You

Huh, interesting. Most the oil I'm working with is diesel engine oil, so....I should be ok.

Poke a hole and drain the filter and what is above BEFORE loosening it... then loosen and spin it off... the pitstop glove won't do much for filters that are not vertical, horizontal and angled will still just run down the side of the block!

I don't mind poking a hole in the filters on occasion, but a large 85748 oil filter takes forever to drain, and then instead of a nice controlled stream I can dodge, its stringy and gets blown everywhere. On most occasions, I'd rather let it run down my arm.

Wtf guys...

Just LOOSEN the oil filter and quickly get your hand out of the way. Oil will spill over the filter and none on your hand because your hand already out of the way. Once oil stops spilling, you are now safe to completely remove the filter and quickly flip the filter upside down into the drain pan and out of the way of the way of the oil spilling from the engine.

I took a car to a quick change place while on a road trip. They were short staffed, so the manager -- in a clean white shirt and tie -- did the job on my car. He didn't even get enough on his hands to need to wash them. I was impressed.

What happens when the cuff fills up with oil because you're standing there frozen in time, gazing in wonderment at the cascading stream of used oil, too mesmerized to even blink, let alone move?

If only they made an oil catch pan that followed the draining oil stream as it shifts around...
