One step back: Bought a used 9k Rotary lift over the phone + email photos. Guy offers to deliver for $100 (120 miles) on way to another job. OK! After tech leaves I'm looking it over more closely and its a 7k, dummy me! Called owner and said he wiil make it right. I do have some time before I have a floor to put it on.

Big question, should I just go ahead and buy a new 10K ??

I'd say yes. I have a 10,000 lb capacity Rotary asymmetrical lift, best "tool" I ever bought.

Thanks John. I am leaning towards a new 10K Rotary. I had a 7K in my other shop and really liked it. Plus it's time to get away from creepers and jack stands.

More of the framing done today. One man crew today. Also gave the Bobcat some help lifting the roof sheet metal off the trailer.

Clipped: great progress and looking good. great time of the year to be building too. i know you have the other garage, but one thing a lot of us do when we get a new space is forget to plan what goes where. if you have great or maybe its a good time to make some plans for your stuff or future stuff while they are roofing and siding it.

good luck

John: I took your advice. Today I pulled the trigger on a Rotary SPOA-10 10k lift. Had to make up my mind before the concrete went in so they would know how run heat lines.

Clartwr: Thanks. I kind of set the stage by telling them I would park the Kubota there for them to put scraps in. It has worked well.

Drivesit: I have been wandering around with rule trying to get some placement ideas. The lift is easy. The air compressor is a challenge. It's almost 6 feet long and Heavy.

Ok I need pictures of the 6 jeeps, 2 jeep trailers and the Toro General Golf Tractor.

Nice FC fire truck! That is probably one of the best ones I have ever seen. owned a couple of 3bs, 5s, a CJ6 and a few other Jeeps over the years but now I just have newer ones.
I do miss Warn overdrive and twin stick PTO in my 3b. It was great when people asked what the 6 different shifters were for.

Clipped: any place to put the compressor outside the shop on a pad and maybe undercover or in a shed so you won't have that noisy thing inside when you are working? a lot of guys pipe their shops and have their big compressors outside either in a carport shed or just a little kick out roof to keep the snow and rain of it.

everything is looking great so we'll just keep watching the progress as you post up more pictures.

cheers

A couple of older pics.
1946 CJ2A with column shift and bed ext. towing a 1947 Bantam trailer.
1955 M38A1 towing an M416 trailer. Trailer has been cleaned up and repainted.

Will try to include some of the stuff in updates as time allows.

Two man crew today. Other end wall covered and windows installed. Inside leveled and first load of stone spread. Got second load of stone.

I checked out some 3 1/2" x 11" x 19' timbers my neighbor has. Thinking about making shelf along the end wall. This should hold the air compressor.DSC_3751.jpg

Clipped: i really like the skylight, weathervane cupola and even the little area you made for a birdhouse away from the new building.

do you have an idea what the carport addition added to the cost of your garage/shop or was and is it all included in the total build. it sure adds a lot of character to your building. the skylight didn't look like a simple install and was it bid separately because i haven't seen one yet in any of the pole buildings I've seen?

keep up the great work and loving the pictures.

What is that skylight tunnel made of. Really hard to tell. I made a few tunnels like that. I used that shiny insulation and 1/4 plywood. It was really heavy at 4'x4'x8' tall, well maybe more unmanagable than heavy. I could not get it up myself.

Thanks Drivesit. The porch cost was around 6K including ceiling, trim and concrete floor. The plan is to use it for an outdoor work area and picnic area. Or I could go redneck, hang some camo tarps make it another bay.

The skylight was around 2.5K installed. The building Co. has them in their shop. When the job is completed I'll shoot some pics with the light on and off.

Here's a shot from the shop showing the garden area in front of house. My wife is the gardener.

It is a hard plastic outside with foam center and mirror film on the inside. It did seem a little hard to handle at 4'x4'x10'. They did use the manlift to help.
here's a better look. The yellow film will come off when they are done.

MrQuinn: Thanks and you are welcome.
On July 6 1995 we flew into your fair city on our way to Kalispell MT. We spent the day taking in the spectacular scenery. Then we went to the Wolf Lodge Inn for 2 of the best steaks ever. Good memories.

Clipped: i would have thought the carport was more than $6,000 and the skylight a bit less than the $2500. both are awesome and looks like you might have the shop weathered in and maybe the cement floor poured before the cold and wet weather hits your area.

good luck

Two man crew today. Got the man doors and the back windows in plus most of the back side covered. Also got the front insulation on, some door trim on, porch bracing done and more stone on floor. Inside concrete ordered for Thusday. Had a little rain today but it didn't matter they just moved inside for a while.
