I'd drive it, in the daytime, with the top down.

Carefully, because I know I can't afford it.

Maybe just sit in it and make vroom vroom noises...
LMFAO love it dude lol!

I am right there with you! Never will be able to afford cars like these! Different priorities!
It's kind of a tough call Judging the stripes based on just pictures, walking around the car would give a much better view at all the different angle and such. It is a tribute car and is looks outstanding. The stripes will help that car be recognized as Blue Angels Porsche in the future.
I have done 3 headliners 1959ghia, 73 Datsun 510, 69 Datsun 510 wagon.
I used the same binder clips that you show 3 of them holding the headliner but I keep install them until I run at of room to install them. I make sure I'm 100 percent good; it should look like an installed headliner tight and looking perfect "some opinions vary"
Then I remove one binder at a time then I glue it, let it flash off and stick the headliner down reapply the clip, mark the first clip and move on to the next binder until I get around the car. Takes me about 2-4 hours based on car size.
I also find this process stress free since you're not working with glue until everything is located and good to glue.
After my experiences I'm always amazed at the pros, they make it look easy.

Thank you for sharing

Wish i could do videos on this forum. Plenty on our Instagram/youtube! Even a series on the blue angels car on youtube of it being built.

Im with you on the interior pro's - it is often a trade i would very much like to take on at some point in time in my life.

The car turned out freakin' awesome Tim. I had too many trucks in the blue tones during the 80's and early 90's which kind of turned me off the color blue for quite a while. I bought wrecked trucks and rebuilt them to save money, and they all seemed to be blue for some reason. :headscrat I guess beggers cant be choosers. Even the wife commented on one I purchased wrecked shortly after getting married and when I told her what I bought she asked "it isn't blue is it?" Unfortunately, it was. But nearly 4 decades later I'm starting to like the color a bit at a time. That car is gorgeous though, no arguing that....:bowdown:

Thanks buddy! I am typically not a blue guy myself. I am more of a jelly bean colors guy.

I do however want to find a mint 2004 lightning (been on the hunt) in Sonic Blue.

You can link YouTube and Instagram posts. I just paste the URL and the forum software takes care of the rest:

https:// youtu.be /AGaDI9RPre8 (without spaces) -->

Is that allowed here? For some reason I thought maybe that was self promotion for business’s etc away from traffic here.

I’d hate to be that guy and get the old boot and ban!

Updates! Sorry it’s been awhile. I had a surgery (planned) and amongst all that my DOO (also my stepson lol) was in Europe for a month on holiday. That coupled with the “mold” in the house that is long gone that turned into new bathrooms and remodels has had me busy,,,

Where to start… how about the targa!

IMG_5992.jpeg

Front steering gear reworked and re assembled and ready to go into the car

Olsen-6.jpeg

Something about playing with fresh zinc and clean parts gets me out of bed with a smile on my face!

This is the front steering shaft that connects the column to the gear

Olsen-7.jpeg

Front damper set being assembled. These are active - has a gnarly little valve in it that works of lat and long axis meters that are sampling at a pretty spicey rate. The valve keeps up well and in testing these have been pretty sweet. I haven’t driven them on the street but have tested on the off road stuff and I was in love.

Olsen-11.jpeg

Final assembly before they go in. These are still 3 way adjustable shocks so the ride is controlled, and bumps are just soaked up.

Olsen-28.jpeg
Olsen-20.jpeg

Front suspension all assembled. We actually pulled the calipers back off after this and sent to paint to get done up In the yellow. These are the Brembo 4 piston GT kit

IMG_6001.jpeg

Rear is also all together and mounted into the car

The rear also got the brembo 4 piston setup.

Wheels also came in!

Here Is a cool thing we are testing out.

You guys ever use lift lights? Twinbusch Lights has some great kits

IMG_5965.jpeg

Pretty easy to install (by that I mean I didn’t get asked “hey how do you do this” by my guys lol)

IMG_5968.jpeg

Actually has enough light to make a difference. I find that the farther you get away from LED’s that you lose the optics of the light so it just kinds of fades into space. Being that there is two strips I think helps

IMG_5963.jpeg

Pretty happy with it!

Neat kit. Plus the Busch brothers (they’re twins hence TwinBusch), is racing a rather nice Kremer K3 (it’s the quite famous Mambo car). They have a rather large fleet of racecars, vintage like the K3 as well as modern machinery.

Ah window’s - old car stuff - who loves putting them in???

IMG_6367.jpeg

I like to call this the art of the seal lol. About an hour just to get the seal to sit right - then you have to rope it - then install

It’s a solid 4-5 hours of Fuc$ing around with one window - aggravating but when it is done it is rewarding

IMG_6371.jpegIMG_6372.jpeg

Here is the ticket - pro tip - install the window with the seal on but the trim UN-INSTALLED - this is the key. Let it sit for three or four days to let the seal stretch out and conform to the window - then remove the glass - install the trim and do it all over again.

People wonder why 911 windows are 3-4g to install on labor - this is why

The pink stripes on the hoop is the Anti flapper foam for the targa trim. Forget that and it’s a noisy ride!

IMG_6377.jpeg

Carpet hase is also installed - the control units on the left are for the active shocks - the ones on the right is the Engine ECU

Who remembers the black rusted S*@t box? Long gone but here are some of the final pictures of the car!

]IMG_6347.jpeg

What a transformation on the engine right? This is the one that was parked in what appeared to be a New York Salt dome for the last 20 years

IMG_6341.jpeg

Undercarriage is fully restored as well - lots of love and sweat went into this one

IMG_6355.jpeg

Cadillac CTS-V Piano Black was the final color selection. Pretty happy with it considering what this one went through!

Thanks for following along!

I am sure that you have all seen bad chrome before. But has anyone ever really seen the best chrome? Totally subjective to the beholder I know…. But this stuff is pretty sweet

Olsen-2.jpeg

Starting with the targa bar - Satin chrome, but it is brushed. I decided to do this as the piece is so big that the chrome I felt would just be an eyesore.

Targa decal in yellow is a nice touch imo but to each his own

Olsen-9.jpeg

Rear bumperettes are also done up in chrome

These are all OEM pieces that we modified etc to fit the theme

Olsen-6.jpeg

Door handles as well of course.

Olsen-37.jpeg

Here we are playing around with getting the stripes right on the seats It looks off here but it is illusion as you have to be dead on straight to see it line up. All we are doing the stripe on is the passenger seat to stay symmetrical with everything - I felt that less was more here?

Are the brake calipers also done in yellow?

I had a question on a recent tire shot where the rim was obviously wider than the tread. I usually don't drive anything with less than a 65 series sidewall so I'm not familiar. Does this rim to tread ratio help lateral stability on these slot cars?

That’s a great question. Calipers are yellow, with the blue Porsche emblem

For us, when we are fitting flush and tucked we usually have to stretch the rear tire to get it not to rub.

Is that ideal? At 10/10’s driving absolutely not, Then we would have to run a slightly smaller wheel and a proper tire.

Another SC Engine all wrapped up this week. We have been working hard on our 4-6 week engine turn around program…. Not making this up but in our space 6 months on a motor is kind of par for the course on expectations with other shops. We do them in 30-40 days.
IMG_6018.jpeg

Here is a before - actually not a bad example usually they are a lot crustier than this! This one is out of a ‘79 so almost 46 years old!

IMG_2720.jpeg

Here is the after photos - (customer wants to keep old exhaust before the comments section blows up lol)

IMG_2711.jpeg

New Engine harness and plugs, wires etc were replaced - additionally any hose that carries pressure is also replaced

IMG_2715.jpeg

I love how the little details come together - and some of the old parts really clean up well. This is a testament to the quality that Porsche seems to always adhere to for their standard. Really a brand that ages well (at least the old stuff)

IMG_2714.jpeg

Linkages all re done as well, assembled and lubricated up!

Thanks for following along!

@WoodsTruck asked about the calipers if we were going to go yellow. Well we did!

olsen-25.jpeg

Here is on mockup before… I think most of you have seen these photos

77395043086__97B69154-2F01-40A0-A0BF-1A358EDDB81D.jpeg

Calipers were done in yellow to match the stripes and the Porsche decal was done in blue to match the body color

BA-6.jpeg

Tucked nicely in their home. Red didn’t look terrible but the yellow allows more symmetry and color flow

77395038997__F155B7DC-6217-40E5-A3A4-47E995463268.jpeg

Next up we dripped paint into the porsche to bring a touch of yellow on to the wheels - Patience is your friend here lol!

BA-8.jpeg

Fully seated in its home, center cap point of course facing towards the wheel valve

BA-10.jpeg

And finally the ten foot view!

Color placement is so important and how much of it as well. Truly is an art form that I have had to learn over the years….

Hope you guys enjoy!

What is the purpose of the green circled nut? Is it supposed to be tightened up against the nut above it?

Anyone here ever make bad decisions? Especially emotionally? Dude brought a car in for a full restoration and we had to turn it away. Just too far gone for it to be financially wise (just start over with another car as its cheaper)

olsen-1.jpeg

Well I felt bad for the dude so I made him an offer and he took it. FFS now what 😂

olsen-8.jpeg

What should I do with this thing? It’s in bad shape - needs quarters, floors, fenders, doors, etc. Of course we can fix it but do we need to!

olsen-36.jpeg

If this picture could tell a thousand words lol. Red paint, white paint, vinyl badges 😩

olsen-12.jpeg

Well the one good thing going is that it is a ‘76 Carrera 3.0L. They didn’t make many of them in targa’s. Matter of fact just over 1k of them in the two year 3.0L run.
IMG_1581.png

I started kicking around ideas and I have always wanted to do an air cooled in Light Green

IMG_1582.jpeg

But also moonstone has always been an eye catcher for me as well. And super rare.

Or I can part it out and crush it!

Coin FLip?

If the guy had the money, why not?

If you fix it, do you have the resources to spare?

Not necessarily money, but shop resources like space and labor. In the end, it'll "cost" you the same to fix it up in "shop resources" that aren't billed out at retail.

If you "fix" it, will it sell for a profit? Or is is a loser... err... labor of love?

If it's really a rare vehicle and matching and complete, you should sell it to someone else that wants (to fix) it vs crushing it.

Put it on ice for when they are really hard to get hold of and it becomes economically viable to restore it, I watched a few "Dutchmann" videos recently and he was saying it's really hard to find donors in South Africa now.

Can we have a toolcart tour of the black cart with the stickers and maybe meet some of the techs in your future YouTube content, always interesting to know what tools specialist have in their toolkits?

Kudos for the honest appraisal with the Targa guy, a lot of shops would have just took his money👍

Bingo. I do NOT have the resources of time. Remember it took me 4 months to put the wheels on the bronco lol!
