That’s Leo. He’s a spunky 6-1/2yrs young and can do a ton of stuff already for someone his height. He’s a ways off from chainsawing on his own though lol

I’d say in that 12-13 area for the first time I ran a saw on my own would be about right.

Mike, summers at my grandparents house I spent many days in the woods sawing fallen trees with grandpa's 36" bow saw. I was an unsupervised feral child from age 6 to 9. Having 'mastered' the bow saw, I took grandpa's One Man saw into the woods and learned I was not yet a man. It was this style saw but I'm not sure it was a Disston.

I sure do enjoy the littles and our daily lives but it sure is nice to go somewhere where my largest concern is how long the ice will last in my cup in the 85f heat.


I had to opportunity to be a part of the Golden Harvest Executive Leadership Council and that was the reason we were in Playa Del Carma. A couple mornings of meetings and a couple days of lounging. The entire executive leadership team from Syngenta North America was there and they led the sessions. It was all focused on getting feedback from farmers and sales representatives like myself so they could better shape the future years. It was one of the best events I’ve ever been part of and being Mexico somewhere warm with lots of rum made it even better.

Right !! She's not real tall but yeah, it looks like she's really really tiny in the picture. Those dumb plants would wave and move in the slightest breeze and drag their stinky leaves over my face just as I'd walk buy so I stuck to the middle of the path !!

If it isn’t one thing it’s another. Grrrrr. I left the cover open on the auger that goes into the steer barn and it rained and froze everything up. Pops chipped at it for a while and dumped some hot water on it and it finally broke free. A square meadow bale made a nice work platform !!


I know I live in Minne-snow-ta but I was getting used to no snow this winter. Kiddos loved it as they went outside and messed around for a few hours right away !!


We were headed to the shop to unwrap the latest package the internet sent me.


Two 024’s, an 026 in rough shape and an 041 AV Super. Hoping to make one good saw out of the three 024/026 lot.


Miss Lily and I got started on cleaning and disassembling. She called dibs on the 024 she’s working on that it’d be her saw when we got them going. Sure why not !!


Yesterday afternoon I was working under the loft on wiring in some lights and the 066 kept whispering “psssst. Remember me? Yeah it’s been a while”. So I tossed a short bar on and went to cut some firewood. This was absolutely silly and I enjoyed every minute of it !! You can’t go wrong with big chips and 2-stroke exhaust !! 18” bar and a 10 pin sprocket …. Chips were flying into the next county over lol

Something about the Mexican govt giving huge breaks to companies when they bring enough people and have a certain number of meetings makes it very attractive I guess. Or so I was told.

There were a few stumps that made the skiddy grunt. This big ash stump was one of them.


This one and another like it stayed in the field. I could barely push it !! It’s an easy 6’ on the base or more. I’m going to take a chunk or two off yet with the 066. It’ll give me a reason to justify that 36” bar

Too bad you’re a bit far away or I’d bounce on over and grapple a bunch of stuff for you !!

It is remarkable what the skiddy and grapple can do for what they are. Other than it was $5,200 I don’t regret the grapple purchase one bit. Nothing I did yesterday would have been possible without it.

When I was a kid, it was all straight trucks, and tractors with gravity wagons, and a very small amount of semis. Now it is almost all semis, very few straight trucks, and rarely, a tractor and wagon. Although this setup works pretty good for him, as he has a short distance to haul. Runs across the scale around 140,000!

Those are some sharp looking 744’s !! He’ll haul an easy 1,500bu with that setup. I’ve gotten close to 1,400 in our pair of 644’s before with high test weight corn. Makes the 7810 bark a bit ! That Magnum didn’t have an easy time with those big’uns lol.

Hauling 1,300 is more common in our 644’s and I think is faster than hauling it in a semi for the short hauls we make. No one to pull you over and question what you’re doing and I can haul whenever I want. We don’t usually haul when road restrictions are on up here but no one could stop me if I wanted too.

Yesterday we weighed, vaccinated and tagged 19 new calves. The little people posse wanted to help and jumped into the squeeze chute to be weighed. They’ve got a little ways to go before they’re market weight


Since Mama Bear ran away for the weekend to do some “much needed crafting “ with her girly friends we were left unsupervised and wandered into a movie theater. Kiddos wanted to see “Migration” and it didn’t disappoint!!


Plex found it a few weeks back and I’ve been telling them not to watch it so we could go see it this weekend. Seems silly to spend almost $100 between tickets and popcorn when we can watch it at home but it was a lot of fun so it was worth it !

Does your trio earn enough doing chores for them to pay for a movie? Looks like you'd have to pay them $15-20 an hour.

First movie I remember going to as a little person was Aladdin. At the time I think we had a single TV in the house and it almost never got turned in so it was a real treat. We don’t watch a lot of TV here but having a 55” TV and surround makes it seem like you’re in the theater so the experience is a bit different for them than it was for me lol.

If you own a business and don’t pay your kids for helping you are really missing out !! $1,000/yr of age is the number we go with until they’ll hit just shy of the max before they have to file for themselves. It’s a great deal for all of us. Moves money into their world and gives them some financial responsibility while lowering my taxable income. Win win.

Yesterday was the day I weldered a few more D-Rings on the skid loader trailer. This has been on the to-do list for a long time.


We’ll often haul pallets with this trailer and this way we can secure them down in the back a whole lot easier.


I’m getting better at weldering !!


Pops and I built the wall to segregate the loft from the shop today. Well most of it. We still gotta do the door to the shop and the door to the landing. If you zoom in you can see 1x4’s going from the top of the wall into the loft area. I used them to secure the wall on top instead of attaching them directly above the wall. They’re screwed into the top cord and then into the rafter about 40” away. This way I didn’t have to climb into the attic or put backing in AND it gives a little flex if the floor sags a bit for some reason.

1st side down drama free. Top to **** it was 89’. Rather big for an elm we thought.



Always wanted to try a half assed sizwel one day so I figured today may as well be the day. It’s not perfect but it’s my first time !! I thought it may be too rotten to do any good but



Yup. Too rotten lol. Plus I was standing on the ground this time and didn’t have my holding wood quite right either but again, it was too rotten to actually matter too much.


Calmest cattle I’ve ever been around. They didn’t even flinch when it came at them !!


I saw some dude on the YouTube cut a stump off and use wedges to keep it from pinching the saw. Seemed like a better way than what I usually do so I gave it a shot. By golly it worked a lot better than my usual cut and swear method !!

I make use of the Country half more than the Town half

I had a great time !! It’s honestly been a while since I’ve had such a good time doing anything.

Plus it was 35f out so the Puppers stayed nice and chilly !!
