Mike, looking forward to watching the dream house go up. I like seeing all the heavy machinery photos you post. Lots of activity this summer out on Quaker road!

Is your area too cleared out for bears? Wondering if frying 15 pounds of bacon is enough to bring one around?
I don't think we have too many bears around here. At least I've never seen one. I think they're mostly North of us. Frying 15lbs of bacon is enough to make just about any carnivore drool though so thank goodness they're not down here !!
isnt it amazing how small the bucket looks as the machines go up in size? then you realize its basically a 2.5t dump truck bed scooping each time.
Watching them work with this "little" 315 Cat made me realize how tiny our Mini-Ex really is :lol_hitti

Best of luck with the new home build!!

fields starting to green up yet?
The fields are all green and everything has germinated. Some of the areas were a bit slow to start because of how dry things are but it's all growing now 👍
Are those robots getting cheaper yet?
We unloaded two robots and the supporting gear and they run in the $500,000 neighborhood for a pair of them. So not really but the price hasn't gone up much in the last 5yrs either. The tech on them has gotten quite a bit better though !!!

We're looking forward to watching the house go up as well !!!

I decided to use this antenna pole for something finally .....
51227846362_8fd290007a_b.jpg

And I put a camera on top of it looking down at the house site. Not sure why it's so blurry. It's crystal clear right now ..... Should be fun watching it progress each day :)

Are you using ICF for the build or just the basement?
Just the foundation. The house will be a two story slab on grade with infloor heat so the ICF's will be nice to not have to set up conventional forms, tear them down and then insulate the foundation anyway. Seems to make sense :)
get starlink yet?
For why praytell ? We have fiber to the home out here and I can get up to 1Gb if I wanted to pay for it. We continually are getting bumped up as we pay for the lowest package. I think it's 80x20 if I remember correctly. Plenty fast and I use the snot out of it.

$78.91/mo for the package we're on. I just looked it up and the 1Gb is $239/mo so not bad for what it is !!

Time to dig in the new septic line. Had to move the old fuel barrels out of the way first !!
51228551666_7f1e6c2f54_b.jpg

These guys do not bring knives to gun fights good grief :lol_hitti
51229623055_8e86d60117_b.jpg

We had to T into the line to add the line to the new house. We'll cap the old house off sometime in the future.
51229623020_b1a73aebc2_b.jpg

They said they usually run some underground wire for power and the alarm and I said nope ... it's going in pipe so I laid the pipe in. I always used to say pipe was cheap insurance but these sticks are probably $10-15 each right now. Luckily I've been preparing for the shop and new house and have been accumulating leftover supplies from dumpsters and jobsites for a decade now so it doesn't hurt as bad.
51229321774_95e8a7fd33_b.jpg

The white PVC pipe had pulled out almost a foot when we dug it all out so I put a piece of 6" drain tile around it as a sleeve to hopefully prevent that from happening again.
51228551336_dfa5583b17_b.jpg

Pipe is all laid and it's time to backfill !!
51227846732_82134f566b_b.jpg

I went in to grab a bite to eat and one of the guys ran a packer roller deal over the whole area and turned the dirt into concrete. Good grief. Oh well. It looks nice.
51229622745_80426f30d5_b.jpg

All stubbed under the foundation and into the house for the electrician and plumber to do their things later on.
51228551506_0b88be5acd_b.jpg

Hey !! Nope. That's Hay !!!
51228770458_1566c2f3d3_b.jpg

Pops baled up the small patch of alfalfa behind my shop.
51228770408_a12c5dfffd_b.jpg

We only got 4 bales off the other little patch he cut so we hauled them home with the dump wagon :lol_hitti
51227846422_87271eda5a_b.jpg

So. We stacked 100+ bales of soybean straw in the hayshed a while back and mice and critters ate the strings off them. Goodness what a mess !! It's all coming out one grapple bucket at a time
51229321314_ce4323707a_b.jpg

What a great day to clean the barn out. It was 97F and miserable but it only took Dad and I 4ish hours to clean out the entire barn. That's a new record !!
51229321284_f019ebafac_b.jpg

On to some maintenance things next. This is one of the smaller side fans from the chicken barn and the bearings appear to be out. It only made three years so hopefully the rest last longer.
51227846222_95f646f269_b.jpg

Best way to do this is to put the whole works in a pail, soak it with some JB80 and SMACK the daylights out of it until it falls apart.

Weird seeing the different building techniques. I run heavy equipment and the company does a ton of foundations, drainage, sewer, water, etc. There’s no way we would be allowed to use white pipe for sewer/septic and we aren’t allowed to put a 90 T in a sewer line. We would never use that black pipe for drainage either.

I love the camera on pole view of your new home build and I’m sure it will be great for kids and family get togethers for many years.
Isn’t it about time your relative flew his drone over your fields to give you (and us) a birds eye view?

hope you are enjoying your weekend.

What would you use to get the turds to the tank if not Schedule 40 Waste/Drain/Vent pipe ??

It's a loooooong T and seems to be working fine so far :dunno:

That black pipe is literally drainage tile. The 4" pipes that the gutters will dump into are non-perf and the 6" ring below is slotted to allow sub-grade moisture to get wicked away. I hate having water issues so this seemed like cheap insurance. I do not anticipate any issues as there is still 3' of fill under the drain pipe and water should never even get to the drain pipe. Perfect !!

I'm not trying to come off the wrong way here as it seems BUT I'd truly love to hear what you do in your area !!!

I purchased a fancy flying camera recently so I'll be able to do that with my own once I get it running !!

Today is the first sub-90F day in over a week so it is REALLY nice outside !! We're working in the chicken barn getting it ready for 43,500 chicks coming Monday morning. Mama Bear and the cubs went to her parents place for the day and I just ate an entire ring of bologna for lunch. Great weekend so far !!!!!

personally i wouldn't use flex drain tile around me house. i'd go form a drain or PVC. flex just collapses too readily and you cant send a snake down it to clean it out.

You must have very different soil than here. Every house built here uses black drain tile. If its installed correctly with gravel it holds up fine. Even the 40+ year old drain tile around my current house is fine.

Jblnut, does your new skiddy not have A/c? I don't do well in the heat so I'll be glad when this hot weather passes. Today is supposed to be the last of it and then cooler next week.
Also, I thought you were looking at a bigger lawn mower but I didn't think you were gonna go that big. :lol_hitti

i'm not sure what a ring of bologna looks like (is it a package about an inch thick), but with all those cows you raise to sell to the butcher i'd imagine REAL 100% steak hot dogs might be more your style. if hot dogs are called MYSTERY MEAT I can't even imagine what they put in bologna (just sayin).

speaking of health are you fully 100% recovered after your COVID? also did any of your family members ever get it?

sounds like you've got a new toy and happy to hear you will posting up more videos of your property (and I'm guessing it will really help you and dad see what's going on too).

cheers!!

Huh. I've got around 200,000' of that same stuff underground laid with the tile plow. I think it'll be fine. It's bedded with LOTS of gravel and sand to keep it clean. Not worries about collapses at this point I guess :dunno:

aww man you bought a drone. now i got reason to come up and fly during harvest
I mostly plan to take still pics, no videos at this point. You're still welcome to come up and film !!!

The new skiddy has A/C and it works great !! I hate the heat as well .... I move slowly and feel like a puddle at the end of the day when it's over 85F. Yuck.

I didn't buy that lawn mower, I was only borrowing it. I decided it was a better idea to buy something else instead of spending $20k + on a lawn mower

No idea on part number but it is ADS pipe and I can jump on it without crushing it :dunno:

next time you're in home depot compare it to the stuff they have there in 4".

edit: did you pull 8" around the house?!?!

It's 6" slot cut perf around the house. The 4" stuff at Menards locally is ADS pipe. Same stuff, just 250' rolls instead of the 3,200' rolls we get 👍

this is the **** im talking about. I guess ADS = cheap. NDS = quality?
I dunno dude. We've literally laid 200,000' or more of ADS pipe with no issues. I looked up NDS pipe and it looks like decent stuff as well for sure. It depends on the area. ADS only ships so far away, at some point NDS or others will be more economical as their plants will be closer :dunno:

i'm mainly curious if the big rolls you get on a commercial account have a different wall thickness than the stuff from the big box stores. FINE i'll bring some over when i drone to compare. put 5 lbs of bacon on the disk.

The littles and I (and Missy the escaped shop cat) and I were outside looking at stuff while making the rounds looking at steers and such and looked at the awful corn by the barn. It didn't come up well for whatever reason

Pops is out cutting more meadows.

It has been really really dry here this year so far so we've been able to get into the wetter parts of my meadow without getting stuck.

A guy needs something like this to get it baled though. Our large square baler weighs 18,000lbs and is a boat anchor in the meadow. This round baler only weighs 6,000lbs and has the same size tires as our square baler !!

Here we have to use green pipe for the sewer. I forget what schedule it is. Here are two examples415B7670-1A78-41C8-A77A-072603163D4B.jpeg C5543B9D-ECC1-4AF6-863B-31C73DE3D7EB.png

The footing drains are done like this around here. Most companies just use white pvc but the company I work for uses the green pipe since it’s stronger.

Nope didn't take it the wrong way at all !! I was genuinely curious about how you do it instead. I'd say the green pipe and solid drain lines are probably more "right" than what we did but this is what everyone does up here so it seems fine I guess :dunno:

Looks like a sloppy mess in that one picture !! Sticky clay is gross to walk around in any kind of footwear :puke:

Sloppy is an understatement. This company has never heard of letting a site dry out. They also don’t comprehend that mud makes more mud when your tracking through it all day.

I thought I had the drain tile in the correct spot but it appears it wasn't. Oh well. Patching it is easy enough.

The footer for the storm room and the shower wall are poured.

They're putting up the ICF's that'll make up the forms/walls of the storm shelter.

It's partially formed up and the littles had to check it out in the evening after supper.

There is a neat capping product on the roof. Looks like it'll work pretty well when they pour it.

King of the mountain !!!
51252950856_4c8b1366f2_b.jpg

Pops purchased a New Holland 108M mower to use in the meadow and cut road ditches. This weighs considerably less than the John Deere 835 MoCo we have so we should be able to get way more meadow baled now. Just need a lighter baler. That square baler is a boat anchor !!
51253994755_916fae61aa_b.jpg

+1 for the lifter boom deal !!!
51253698529_651f1b3e81_b.jpg

I called the phone company to see about trenching in a new line to the new house and got to talking about stuff. I ended up talking them into spending a whole day here. They're going to dig the line in from the road to the pump house, dig in a 12 strand single mode fiber from the pump house to the steer barn and then a 6 strand single mode fiber up to the chicken barn. Everything will be hard line connected with no more PtP links !!! Whoo hoo !!!
51253151998_ec775796ee_b.jpg

I wonder how Mama Bear would like me parking a mini-ex in the kitchen and a skid steer in the living room ....
51252220907_eba6844e04_b.jpg

I may have posted a picture of this earlier but I purchased a Ryobi 18v brushless push mower. So far so good !! It mows really nice but is a bit battery hungry .....
51247984538_8a399f9ecf_b.jpg

I cut this all with 3ah batteries. Mostly just bought it for trimming and the kiddos play area where I can't get the rider into.

Here is a fun shot from the late 1970's sometime when the place was in it's prime.

It works !! My first ever round bale. Sheds tear ...... continues with post .....

That is Rubin. He delivered it and helped us make the first dozen bales or so and showed me the ropes.

OMG this thing eats hay !! I was up to 10mph where it was flat and level and it scarfed it up like a fat kid eating cake !!!

23 nice roundies out there.

The meadow is pretty soft so we only haul 8 at a time on the wagons instead of 14.

That looks like a nice place to put them !!

"If you buy a round baler we'll give you a smoking good deal on a disc mower". "Well OKAY !!!"

After the first few passes we made some adjustments and Pops went on his way.

A neighbor cut this stuff last summer and couldn't get it baled with his baler. It has MUCH smaller tires and kept sinking away at the time. I think we'll get it baled up this year without issue. It is crazy dry here. Gosh we could really use some rain !!!
51254136931_86b410f361_b.jpg

That hay hasn't been cut since before 2014 when we moved in. This disc mower is going to be a game changer out here !!
51254882684_17ebf7f032_b.jpg

Om nom nom mow that hay !!
51254137716_da9a3d6fa7_b.jpg

51254137661_7a4ed883b1_b.jpg

I missed the shot when Pops was right alongside the camera when he saw it and did a doubletake. Darn !!
51253405582_710ceb3aa8_b.jpg

That is going to be a lot of round bales :eek2:
51255178580_dafb11b734_b.jpg

We'll try to get as much cut as we can. Lots more to cut in the coming weeks !!!
51255178690_9ea3d303ee_b.jpg

Well you certainly have your colors figured out. Hay Equipment is red, tractors are green, and combines are red (mostly!).
Are you still planning on doing large squares with the round bales now?

As far as battery lawn mowers.... EGO 56 volt mowers work awesome, EGO leaf blower also awesome.

That bale wrapping machine is pretty slick. There seems to be an expensive piece of machinery for every task on the farm. All it takes is $$$. 💰💸
