It's 45F here today, just 500 miles southeast of you. Checked the weather by you, looks like your stuck in 20F high's for the foreseeable future. Imagine the propane you would have used already.
So, did you find more fuel? Maybe coal....did you ever imagine you would have gone through that many cords of wood?

Good weather for -> :beer:

it is 30dgerees C here yesterday.
I'd rather have it snowing than being constantly worried if I'm going to get gut punched by a kangaroo :lol_hitti

Last year we used around 2,000gal total and this year would likely have been more as Mama Bear is keeping it warmer in the house than last year. I'm keeping it a balmy 58F in the shop instead of 52F so there is that as well I guess.

I'm waiting to get my truck back from the shop and I'm going to pick up a couple tons of coal to run though the stove. Lots of things burn .... rubber has around 30,000,000 BTU's per ton ..... the coal I'll get has around 17,000,000btu's/ton and is similar per cord to boxelder but the coal is a lot more energy dense.

Even burning wet, not seasoned, boxelder I was able to load the stove around 9pm and it had wood left at 7am when I'd check it the first time on the way to the barns for morning chores. Can't complain about that !!!

Oh I'm not out. That pile is gone though. I have plenty stacked in the old shop nice and dry. This is about half of what is in there. Don't know how many cord it is but it'll be enough.
KIMG1082.JPG

If I do run out from the stuff in the shop I can dip into this little pile as well ...
KIMG1242.JPG

I figure I'll need about 15-20 loads this size a year.

Here’s to it warming up a bit so you and the family and critters can survive another brutal minn e soda winter.

can you burn coal in your wood stove or is it just called a heater and you have lots of options on what it can use? Or maybe the coal is for something else?

Looks like full time farming is keeping you plenty busy so stay warm and in good health.

yes, tend to agree with you on that one, yesterday it was 32 out where we were working in a paddock fixing a broken septic system, the smell was a bit high.

Eh we'll survive just fine. Cold and wind isn't that bad really. 95F and humid, that **** ***** !!

The stove can burn coal and I plan to get some when I get my big truck back. It'll burn anything you throw in there that will burn. You're only suppose to burn "approved" things like wood and coal but it'll eat lots of stuff .... never bags of garbage but the occasional mysterious black chunk of stuff wanders in there sometimes ....

Farming is keeping us all busy and I wouldn't change it for anything !!!

I'll be thinking of all you poor saps early Feb when we're sitting on white sand beaches sipping stuff with those little umbrellas in the glasses. Sort of excited for that !!!

I first thought 32, that ***** BUT that's rather warm actually and approaching on too damn hot for me. Hot and ****** stink is a great combo !!!

And by 32, you mean it was 89.6°F, so steaming pile of shite temperature.
****** temps to do anything other than drink beer.

I know he's Australian but you shouldn't be that nasty about him. Oh! I see what you mean:ROFLMAO:

A few weeks back one of the chicken barn fans sounded strange so I tore into it to see what was up ...
52627021569_aff6fc47a7_b.jpg

The capacitor had let all the oil schmoo out and it shot. Ordered a new one for $11. We'll see if it works again :dunno:
52626259237_8aae0e80e8_b.jpg

20F outside when I took this picture of the thermostat in the shop. It's rarely more than 3F apart from the floor temp and room temp.
52626773521_53a772a114_b.jpg

It's time to get another batch of calves so I gotta clean out the run area so we don't get stuck with the truck and trailer bringing them into the barn.

52627022644_f99eca9589_b.jpg

It dawned on me that if I kept fuel in the shop it wouldn't get cold ... so I filled the 100gal barrel (can it be a barrel if it's a square??) and brought it inside. #2 diesel likes to be warm so this has been working fantastic !!
52627212470_4fc624cb8a_b.jpg

We backed the planter in a few days back to do some maintenance and upgrades to it.
52627249293_4d636b0745_b.jpg

The first maintenance item is to replace the fertilizer opener discs. Some of them are quite shot while others are decent yet. Planning on doing them all and keeping the good ones for now.
52627022874_546e57b931_b.jpg

4 down and apart, 8 to go. I do not envy those with a fully equipped DB120 that may have 54 of these damn things :lol_hitti
52627212750_431323666f_b.jpg

I ground down a little pry tool I had to get the dust caps off. I think a pair of pocket pry bars will be delivered soon .... this worked okay but they were still a fair bit too large.
52626260497_be61cbf89c_b.jpg

Row cleaners and fertilizer openers are all off. The row cleaners will get the bearings checked and put back on. The discs are all in great shape on those.
52627213120_2929b9428a_b.jpg

We got word a few days back that our "new" 4wd was done and ready to be picked up. They put it by the interstate as a show piece :lol_hitti
52627022059_01271fa951_b.jpg

We shuffled a few things around upstairs in the shop over Christmas break. I put a nice oak shelf that Pops built on the West wall, I took the old HUGE coffee table out and fed it to the wood stove and put this smaller one in it's place and we got all the BluRay's and games out of boxes and on a shelf.
52627061539_a6b9ffc062_b.jpg

We also brought all my Legos from Mom and Dad's place up here. Leo and Alyssa are having a blast playing with them !! Lily is somewhere with Mama Bear .... don't remember where at the moment but I need to go there by 4pm ....

Little dude and I are building a monster truck. It's going to be wicked cool !!!

Only once indeed. He's a wild little dude but showed a rare reserved side of himself for some reason !!!

You seen this?

Saw that. I haven't been able to procure an existing Big Bud so I doubt I'll be able to get my hands on a new one :lol_hitti

That monster would be working on farms already had they not had a massive shop fire in 2017. They announced a new Big Bud back then but the place went up in smoke not long after.

I'm excited for it as I'll snag a 1/64th toy as I'm sure they'll make one !!

My Dad and I used to deliver Hesston hay equipment up there, we got a walk through of the original "manufacturing plant" from the then current owners. This would have been mid 90s.

Dad also got to run the 16V-747 when it was out in Bakersfield, CA.

There were a few chunks that didn't fit in the stove because they were physically to large or my wimpy *** couldn't lift them so I cut them up with the chainsaw. I figured there was no sense in getting the wood splitter out if I couldn't lift them up to it :lol_hitti
52636064680_5e328b425b_b.jpg

Grabbed a load of wood out of the old shop and brought it to the stove with my man basket deal. I think I could have filled it all the way up and the skiddy would have been just fine. It wasn't even tippy or nothing with this much yet. Next time !!

Icy and sloppy roads made for a fun drive !! Took about an hour to get it to the JD Dealership.

Ok, ya got my attention . . . what is going on?

Traded the red one for a green one. 500hp tile plow monster!! She's heavier than a fat chick leaving an all you can eat spaghetti feed. It was time for something larger and we were all sick of the power shift in the red one.

We called those guys to repaint the house and they said it'd be easier if it was at their shop since it was too cold outside to do it here. Okay :dunno:

And here I thought you were keeping the Steiger.

Is the Deere a powershift?
Steiger has been here since new in '03 and it'll be missed but I'm excited the new era of 4wd around here :lol2:

I believe all Deere 4wds are powershift. At least the newer ones. I would expect the same from the 20 series.
Well kinda .... The 9520 only had the power shift as standard. The rest has the 24sp standard with the 12sp optional.

Nope. Power shift was optional.

Martin
On all but the 9520 where it was standard.

TractorData shows partial and full powershift options. (PowerSync and Powershift). Either way, you get a powershift as opposed to an IVT/CVT, niether of which were really around at that time yet. You had a choice of 18 or 24 speeds, which did you get @jblnut?
The 12sp and 24sp are the same trans, the 24sp has a Hi/Lo deal to it. The power shift is just a normal 18sp power shift. I wanted simple and mechanical and was struggling to find a 9430 in decent shape with low hours that wasn't $200k so when this 9420 came around I snatched it up right quick.

You could get the 24sp in the first series of the "R" 9000 Deere's as well. Not common at all but it was an option.

PTO?

Three point?

Martin
No and no which is fine as it'll be a tillage/tile plow tractor with the occasional tow rope behind it to tug something out of the mud. It has A LOT of weight hanging on it !!!

Yup, we need more pics of that JD..
It's still at the dealership but this is the last of the ones the sales guy sent me after they had it all shined up. More to come when I get it home !!

This past summer we called a local building mover to see if they were interested in moving our old house off the property and they said absolutely. I took a ton more pics than this but here are a few ... I won't put a caption by them all but I'm gonna post them as I like pictures so maybe y'all do too :dunno:

That is cool!

I take it they had a buyer for it not too far from your farm?
I don't think they have a buyer yet. The owner is a pack rat just like me .... he collects larger things though. I've been to his place a few times and there are buildings all over the place waiting for new homes !!! A quick Google Earth look says 22 buildings sitting there waiting to get moved again.

Mike, I told my kids to never look down on people who live in trailers, even the small ones (I'm the one refusing to face the camera).

I guess it is a mobile home of sorts now :lol_hitti

Young Bob is showing his attractive side I see
