I was encouraged to also post about the P&C screw extractors I (he) found in the Herbrand top chest I purchased. They were all a bit rough, so I opted to photograph them with the complete screw extractor kit I already owned, since I neglected to mention I owned it.

In the GS thread, I posted my about my big score last Saturday. There are still boxes to go through but among the things that were easy to access are these uncommon P&C X-3209 ratchet repair kits, in the original boxes. One box contains new and used parts, and I found the instruction sheet separated from the box, and a box with new parts and instruction sheet.

In case you're wondering, I also got two 3209, 3/8" drive ratchets as well.

Brian
Very nice. Always good to find vintage ratchet repair kits. I have only found 4 over the years. They are definitely hard to come by.

Looking for a Plomb 3061 Pebble Open End.

This one is an eBay find. I was surprised no one bid against me (winning bid of $15) but maybe the ~$24 shipping cost kept people away.

P&C No. 5495 1/2" drive socket box.

The embossed logo on the lid displays both Milwaukie (the Portland suburb P&C was located in) and Portland, Oregon, which is a detail I have failed to notice in the past.

In spite of the spray bombed silver paint, I'm delighted with the overall condition of this box!

Catalog page is from 1948, which I believe is near the end of that logo.

Brian

A couple of P&C items that emerged from a random lot of tools I recently hauled in.

I found one a few years ago, and showed in earlier in the thread, but PhotoBucket managed to ruin that. So:

I found the contents a while earlier, stuffed into a Plomb 3/8's box. Still need to find a speeder that matches. Looking closer Brian, mine doesn't say Milwaukie so I would be willing to bet yours is wartime.

Sadly, I can't keep everything. I have these 4 P&C old soldier wrenches, and I am wondering if anyone wants them, if so let's chat. Are they worth $20 + shipping for them all?
If it matters, they were all owned by a friend of mine, an old time kind of man; a real "good old boy", he was a logger and the kind of person you don't often run into any more. One day he called me up and said, "David I need your tractor." Well you kind of didn't say "No" to Chester, he was too nice and sharing a guy. He came and got my old tractor and roaded it to his place, and the first thing he did when he got there was to take it into his shop and start servicing it; greasing fittings, adding hydraulic oil, etc. etc.; checking things out, and so on. He used the tractor for just a couple of days and when he brought it back it was in better shape than when I lent it to him.
Also the kind of guy, when I could not get a part off my pickup (broke a 1/2" short extension in half trying), I called Chester. He had me come with my pickup into the middle of his shop; he had a big old compressor with a hose that looked to be 1" in diameter, but anyway he put his air gun on the nut I was breaking tools trying to get off, and Whizz - What's the problem? he said. And the day went on and I was working on my pickup, and out of the blue Chester said, "Come on, time for dinner." Well I protested that he didn't have to feed me, but that's the kind of man he was. I was in his shop, it was dinner time, so naturally I was to have dinner with him and his family.
Anyway that's a little bit of the romance about the original owner of these big old P&C wrenches.
I'll have to make another post, can't get the system to let me load photos right now.

In a previous post I had a shot of all four, can't find it now!

Worth $20 and a bit more I reckon. I for one am the type who gravitates to the personal history of the tool & it's owner as opposed to the factory and the manufacturing & marketing history of the tool.

Thanks for sharing that!

Late 20's Mack Truck motor hold down nut wrench. I took some pics of the application for this on an old Mack AC that belonged to Alan Schurman but they're pretty dark and not all that helpful.

I was wondering if anyone has this pictured “tool wagon “, pulled from the ‘40 catalog. I believe this was the last catalog before they were acquired by plomb?? This is listed as having a “beautiful green wrinkle finish with chromium trim”... I will post more in the p&c thread. I would love to know who made these as well as who made their tool boxes prior to pressteel?

I picked this one up at Steam up last year. I'm pretty sure this chest is an SK but it does look like the P&C top chest in your catalog cut as well Smoke. Appears to be the same box but for the color. It has a blue wrinkle finish. Ed.

Interesting... it has identical hasps and latches. I wonder if they used a water slide decal or badge? Kind of makes me wonder? I certainly will be looking at those closely if I see one in the wild

I posted this question on the plomb thread as well... oldtoolguy posted a picture of his lower roller that is badged for sk. Looks like sk an p&c sourced boxes from the same vendor. I have asked who made sk boxes on the vintage sk thread... hard to deny the connection based on this picture

Man! no P&C posts since May 27? Here's a couple of my more recent acquisitions. The wrench is a HTF flat shank double box from 31 listed in their "airplane specials" section. Ratchet's of this style pop up every now and then but this is a pretty sweet example.

Very nice X. That wrench is really unique. I love the older P&C logo like on the round tool to the left.

Looking for a Plomb 3061 Pebble Open End.

Thanks Roy. Yeah, that "round tool to the left" with the very distinct logo is the shank of that 1932 valve lifter with the brass ferrule I posted in December. I haven't been near where I stash my stuff so it hasn't been put away yet.

P&C 4020B straight jaw puller set, ca. late 1950s through mid 1960s.

Some of you may have seen this listed on eBay. I was the winning bidder at ~$62 + shipping. It has apparently lived an easy life and seemingly was used just once, then put away for 55+ years.

I own and use the Proto version of this, which is at work, so this one won't get used any time soon.

Thanks, all, for not bidding this up!

Brian

Yeah, I saw that and said to myself "I know who is biding on that!"

So I'm thinking there was a window in the early 30's maybe all the way up to 34ish where P&C having perfected their round shank wrench manufacturing process were marketing other companies flat shank wrenches while they were working out the issues surrounding improving the forging and design of their own which up to that point were kind of primitive.

Mr.X- this wrench is a great find and I know it is not common. Your theory in outsourcing wrench manufacturing is very likely as we know that p&c did this in the past! Is this the only wrench in this set you own?
