Hi guys, I am new to the forum, some of my buddies over at Vital Mx forum sent me over and I'm pretty glad they did. What a wealth of resources you have here! I am stoked to know about Garage Journal! I just started my garage build in late September here in Bend,Oregon on Eastern slope of the Cascade Mnt range. It's being built to house our fleet of motorcycles and a few other toys.
We race Motocross and have a small outdoor MX track on our property. I started my thread in the introduction section and was encouraged to move the photos over here. Here is the link to part 1 http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=4432548#post4432548

Part 2:
The first day of standing the big walls we were hit with 30mph gusts and blowing rain all day. I was about pooping myself when I took this photo. I left the skid steer chained to the wall all night to make sure it didn't blow over.

That's my oldest son on the bike, the kids never take pictures of me riding I do ride like that though, I've been racing and riding motorcycles since I was 7 years old, I am 42 now.

When we moved to Bend, we only had one child aged 3, he's the one in the photo, now we have three and the younger two were both born and raised here in Bend. My oldest has been to Philly several times over the years and he actually thanked my wife and I for moving him to Oregon to grow up last year after a trip there It's tough to beat life in a small town. Philadelphia is too much of a rat race for us.

just a reminder after you turn 40 bones don't bend and repair as easily so BEE CAREFUL and get yourself a Teeter Up inversion table and use it daily for 5 minutes just hanging. i'm almost 60 and haven't taken advil in years for anything but a toothache since I've been using mine.

have fun with the build and post lots of great pictures. even though it might not look like we are watching a lot of us will be so post questions and hopefully you'll get answers quickly from some member that knows them.

We are just weekend warriors with the MX stuff. I unfortunately have already beat myself up pretty bad. I have lots of titanium in my left femur/hip. I would like to know more about your tilt up device. I am starting to get back pain and I've never injured my back. I have a feeling it's age. I also realized I have shrunk about a 1/2" in recent years. Here is some of the hardware pics

Very cool. My wife and I spent a week in Bend this August mountain biking. What a great town! We enjoyed the brewery scene very much and the biking was incredible. Looking forward to seeing the development of your space and hopefully some more action shots!

I just joined the titanium club when I flipped the quad and shattered my collar bone. I too am a fan of the inversion tables-it's a back board the clamps to your ankle and flips you so you hang up side down. It relives the pressure on you lower back.

Cant wait to see this! MXer here also and all that i am working with is a 1 car wide garage but 2 cars deep. its a struggle for 3 bikes and 2 quads. please get it done so i can have some motivation!

Patrick: i think you are the first member to post an x-ray and for sure the only one that posted one of himself with some new tools installed where you use them everyday. the only titanium i have i probably in an old driver when they made golf shafts out of them in the 80's.

Inversion table has kept me from taking Advil for about 7 years now except for a couple toothaches. considering i used to buy a bottle of 100 Advil gel tablets every 2 weeks or month that is a pretty decent improvement don't you think?

i'll be 60 in 13 months and i used to see a Shiatsu as pretty much my only Dr. for about 25 years until he passed on to the other world. he spoke 95% Japanese and i "NEVER" pointed or told him where my pain or pulled muscles were and he "ALWAYS" found them and fixed me in my hour's treatment. i then tried to find another Shiatsu without any luck, but found a few Chiropractors that really knew their stuff. since they move bones around without always moving the muscles and other tissue with them one wrong move and i'm back for another Chiropractor visit. since i was on the Long drive (golf) tour in 2004 and hitting golf balls pretty close to 400 yards at age 48 i tended to have more back issues than the average person.

i heard and thought i'd try inversion tables and tried as many as i could and found out that Costco was selling www.invertalign.com was very easy to set up and use. invertalign inversion tables were made by Teeter-up and when the economy slowed that company disappeared so now the table i use is made by Teeter-up.

i asked my chiropractor in 2007 what he thought of the inversion tables and he said if i was going to use one that i shouldn't hang more than 5 minutes at a time, but that hanging 2 or 3 times a day would be ok. I've seen him 2 times since then and both to just to have lunch.

set one up in your living room or bedroom where you can use it 5 minutes a day hanging fully or 2 times for 10 minutes total if you are pretty sore and it should help. I should be a rep for Teeter-Ups because I've probably help them sell 100's or maybe 1000's of them over the years because they are work. you might get light headed or have some ankle pain so build up to the 5 minutes per day. I've had a couple of my clients/friends that were actually scheduled for back surgery use mine for a couple weeks and they all cancelled their surgery. of course i won't help you guys that tend to break rather than have bones out of place sorry about that.

here's a picture of my 81 year old mom on mine a couple months ago. she just had an MRI at her Doctors and they couldn't find anything wrong. the Doctor's fix was to offer a shot so she came over to my house every morning for a month and worked up to the 5 minutes within a week hanging at an angle. after a week she was off the Vicadin and after a month she is jumping around again.

not sure the kids should use these until they are 13 or maybe 19 while they are growing, but i would let mine use it rather than taking pain pills or a shot. by the way i'm 6'3" and 230 and this inversion chair is very stout and my38 year old 6'4" 300 pound son uses it every time he comes over for a visit.

so i guess i would recommend buying one and using it. You think??

Thanks for the info on the inversion table. I am going to ask Mrs Clause for one for Christmas. It looks like they are on sale for $299 right now. As soon as the shop is finished I am going under the knife to have the femural rod pulled. It's been giving me a lot of trouble the last couple of years.

FYI: Costco i think sells them for $279 when they get the new version in stock each year until they run out. not sure if it's the same model as the one you found on sale for $299 so check it out if you have a Costco store in Bend.

I love when the mountains pop out for the first time after a storm or an inversion. This is a couple of days ago.

The mountain in this photo is called Broken Top(el 9,177ft) and just behind it to the right is South Sister(el 10,358ft).

Patrick: inversion table first and you'll be as good as new and won't need to spend your cash on a caged beast. you can spend it on your garage filling it up with tools.

We've been getting some hogs coming through the property lately. I guess the rut is making these usually elusive Mule deer bucks pretty carefree. They've even been sniffing around the shop build while the generator,saws, and hammers are banging.

Patrick: I've owned 10 acres before and my neighbors seemed like they were on my elbows at times. as far as i can tell so far your neighbors don't exist unless you count Bambi's relatives as your neighbors. how close are your neighbors or do you have a timber or state property next to yours?

by the way more nice pictures and has the snow melted and is it gone today? supposed to warm up to the 50's again up here in Seattle next week after being in the 20's for most of the last week or two. hopefully you'll get a little warm weather to get your roof and siding on your garage. good luck

It's hard to tell but we actually have neighbors. We are in a neighborhood believe it or not. The lots in this area are typically 1 acre in size. When the original developer split up the land in the 60's he must have passed this piece over for the easier to develop flat land and left it a 22.5 acre parcel. We are about a 9 minute drive to the center of downtown Bend. All that forest land in the pics is due West of us. The Deschutes river snakes past here just across the street and it's all Forest service land to the Willamette Valley. I'll look for some photos of the City lights of Bend that I have somewhere, we have nice views to the North of the City. We are flying now, yesterday was a good warm day and today is even better.

I don't mind neighbors especially if they are good people and to have mother nature in your back yard without a neighbor for miles is a dream. i have a Puget Sound view and 2 blocks from a restaurant or store, but not even close to as nice as your place.

I had been in the real estate business for 13 years in Bend when I found it. I looked at thousands of acreages and owned one set up before finding "The One"

Patrick: it surely looks like the "ONE". that track in the background in the view from over the roof is amazing. if i owned it I'd be putting in 3 golf holes. i moved into our current house nearly 30 years ago with my fiancé and we had plans to live here and move in a few years and then we added a little girl and twins to her 10 and 12 year old she had from a prior marriage. Twins are now 23 and finishing up college and working so still living with us but the clock is ticking for a big piece of property for us with a small house and huge shop/garage.

Pretty sweet view you've got there ! I love the Olympics. I spent some time up in Joyce and Port Angeles. I tried to get the wife to move up there about ten years ago. She said that I would be moving alone It was a beautiful blue bird day today in Central Oregon. We are almost to the point of being dried in. Hopefully by Thursday there will be tar paper and ice shield rolled out.

have you been to Snoqualmie falls? my wife an i had lunch a few miles from it last week and it was at flood warning levels and the water was splashing up on us and my cell's camera phone. here's a picture and that isn't fog that is water spray from 100 or more feet below and another picture of what it looks like in summer in case you are ever up this way it's pretty amazing.
