Thanks, Roy. Those are, in an overused word, awesome. I can easily see that going for $200. Especially in the original box with that embossed lid. Wow.
Yes more of a trade name thing. I prefer hex key sockets but everyone looks at you with a puzzled look. Still a crazy price. The case easily doubled it.

Were the matches in any of them?"

Mine are all here. The matchbox was unused.

I didn't even know that they made socket head "sockets" back then... I have lots of Proto's; never seen one in Plvmb...

TM, I'd keep them that way. I have 50-100 match books I kept, but I refuse to strip the matches out...

I should go look and see what I have sometime...

All the thrift stores in my neck of the woods opened up today so I went tool shopping. I came across this wf-41.

Aha. The mystery of the new owner of the Allen sockets is revealed.
A while back I got some pebble ratchets in a trade. None of them worked very well so I just threw them in the Plomb box. I was looking at my Proto ratchets recently and decided to use three of them as donors for the pebbles. It seems like the selector handles had been re-installed upside down. It was a pain to remove them and turn them around but I eventually got ‘em done. They are all working fine now.
The 1/4” one’s selector was totally missing.

I'm glad I didn't know about it. I might have gone for broke. And not even as a Plomb collector. Just the coolness factor. Besides the rarity of the tools themselves, the little wood box with the 'burnt' markings look and the thumbnotch on the lid. I'm just a sucker for all that. Reminds me of the antique Miller crowfoot wrenches in the tombstone board I have. Instant catnip.

The first time you run into those wood boxes (whether it's allen heads or screw extractors or even the wood ratchet repair kits) in the wild or wherever it's kind of a :wtf:"Psyche!" cause even though you've seen plenty of "O" Plomb tool boxes with 40's era tools the WOOD box gets you thinkin there might be some early 30's steel inside.

Some times I see something like that, and if it is something I have not seen in my 4 or 5 years in Plombmentia, I just have a need to get it for my Pile-O-Plomb. I have quite a bit of rarer stuff now. I rememeber a Plomb gas station attendant hat on ebay once right after I fell into this craziness that went for 60 and I thought WOW who would pay that for a little hat?!?!! I wish I would have it still haunts me!

Sure, I get that. My point was just that those boxes look older than they are, they set up, for me at least, a false expectation.

So, the sale of the Cap Screw sockets made me rethink the value of something, and make a purchase which should show up in a week...
Haha. I though the same thing but the box was a little rough. Very unique tools to see. Now you and Ragz have a set. Can't wait to see the pics.

It’s a blue ribbon day for me. The mail man brought the final wrench I needed for a full set of pebble combos. Thanks to Roy for alerting me to the eBay sale and to you other guys who traded with me or gifted me. I’m going to make a custom display for them and hang em in my shed.

Ragtop, I was going after that set but after it hit 200 I decided to back off since, as some of you know, I have a large local deal I'm chasing.
Post some pics when you get it locked down. Good Luck.

Is it a big Plomb deal?? I was figuring you and a few others might have big bids in. As Mr X stated the wood box stuff has the nostalgic look going for it even when it's not as old as you'd think. I still get pulled in dang it!! Ahh well as my daughter tells me about money....it's just paper! And she's right bId rather have neat stuff than all these huge stacks of paper ; )

You are assuming sellers will still show up. I think its going to be slow for some time and with restrictions on how many can be on prem for those that do open and I suspect buyers will also be slow (which could be a good thing for the buyers that do show)...

Well, one thing is for certain; the sooner they open things up, the sooner we get back to good sales. How long that will take depends on curcumstances.

Thanks again guys. Built my display board today. I tried to keep it pretty authentic looking. The size is a little off because I wanted it to fit between my studs. Roy gave me the idea for the edge profile and I copped the layout from Montanafordman’s pictures.
The decal is from eBay, the pegs are 8d nails pushed in through the back with the points cut off, and the green paint is Clark and Kensington “on the green.”

It's not all Plomb. Looking at 40 toolboxes plus. Stuff dates from the early 1900's to the 70's, all US made.
That is crazy. That maybe a once in a lifetime haul.

Nice work! I built something similar but didn’t paint the edges green.
