I picked this little box up last weekend at an auto swap, which surprisingly was missed by Smokeshow in his sweep of the tables:

It had a bunch of screw extracters in it, but only two of them were Plomb. Fortunately, I had all of the rest at home:

Too bad about the yellow spot, which also covers the bottom and one side. Not sure what I am going to do about that yet.
It wasnt so much that I missed it, I just hadn't got to that side of the booth yet. If I had noticed it I would certainly have pounced on it. I was still looking at overpriced body tools. Interestingly enough, this is the same booth last year where you missed the paschall hammer and I found it ;)

+1 for starting with a razor blade. I just went through my collection of Plvmb, Proto and P&C wood handled screwdrivers using a blade to remove paint drips and spatter. I found it helpful to do it while looking through a magnifying lamp.

I’ve had some good luck with plastic razor blades. They don’t bite into the wood like regular razor blades do.

I remembered I had bought a 5295 plomb carry box last year at the swapmeet. It looks a little rough but is surprisingly rust free and , gasp, has all its spot welds intact. I pulled out my plomb spares and rifled through the box to see if I had anything that would fit well in this box I’m creating. I had a few things to add, one of them being the 1/4 speed wrench. Turns out that speed wrench is not one intended for these boxes. It has the longer handle. I actually have 3 plomb 1/4 drive speed handles and they all are too long 🙄. I checked my cad plated Proto la handle and it plopped right in. Looks like I’m hunting for a speed handle and other goodies now!

You jack up the opposite wheel, thread the knocker onto a wheel stud and strike it. They were a bit iffy but if you hit them hard enough sometimes worked

So to knock the stud out?
Here is @Provincial 's description from the P&C thread (yesterday - post #2039)

"A knocker is a piece you thread onto the threaded end of a tapered axle (like a 1928-48 Ford rear axle) and hit with a hammer to break the hub loose from the taper. They sort of work, but if it doesn't, one alternative is to put the nut back on finger tight, then back off one or two slots of the castle nut, and drive around a while. Often, this will loosen the axle from the hub taper. If not, a real (screw type) puller will be required."

I have a feeling because it is so well used that it was probably a common size, like the 28-48 Ford rear banjo rear ends like Provincial referenced.
Tell me the thread and I might can give you the application.
I thought I posted these 1940 catalog excerpts the last time we discussed these... Maybe not...

So not too long ago I brought up on the P&C thread how I had accidentally hit the AI assist button on an auction I was putting together on ebay and how lame and cheesy and frankly UNintelligent the result was that I quickly backed out of it. So a few members had some strong opinions and anyways, today i saw this ad with the same tell-tale salesmanship tips disguised as AI and was wondering if someone chooses to use that feature and it literally lies and or commits fraud by omission does the seller have an automatic appeal for any negative review? or to deny a refund request?...."great condition" LOL.

Compared to how I expect I will look in another 20 years, that's pretty good condition. But the bounds of reality are being stretched there.

gang up and post questions to the seller. Drive him batshit when 30k people look, but no bids

Hi. yeah, I'm just thinking about the general principle of using a feature eBay is promoting that actually hinders a buyer from understanding condition and understanding it’s ramifications after the sale. Obviously we could start a thread for crazy “fishing”/ absurdly priced eBay auctions but that would be too easy. Having said that, I wouldn't accept this particular "set" as a gift, let alone at $500. Condition, box, incorrect sockets, incompleteness...none of that is addressed.

That’s like saying the titanic is in mint / preserved condition😆. This seller is a bit out of touch with reality. They can price it however they want but it’s not going to sell to an educated collector at that price.
