Absolutely. I just picked up a 1140 dbe this weekend. Pretty decent shape aside from the big weld bead right above the size/name. Appreciate the weld bead was a marker of sorts? But why?At least he had the sense to do it on the flip side! It could be - and often is - worse.
To make it so ugly that nobody would want to steal it?Absolutely. I just picked up a 1140 dbe this weekend. Pretty decent shape aside from the big weld bead right above the size/name. Appreciate the weld bead was a marker of sorts? But why?
Ha! I have a big DBE with a gnarly weld ID mark too! I’ll have to see if I can’t find it.Absolutely. I just picked up a 1140 dbe this weekend. Pretty decent shape aside from the big weld bead right above the size/name. Appreciate the weld bead was a marker of sorts? But why?
It’s too bad. Would have been a nice wrench . You can see it right below the red gray. Poor 1140To make it so ugly that nobody would want to steal it?

Especially if Dept. #83 stole it from Dept. #27!Sometimes a weld is over precious owners initials
I'm sure someone here will know.
Babbitt scraper?
Bearing scraper per the catalog.'evening... Just got this a few days ago. Not sure just what it is but I think it's the only one in the world. PLVMB 2383.
The term "Babbitt scraper" persisted long after bearing surfaces in automobiles were poured with some alloy other than a classic tin-based Babbitt (50's) and is still a popular term among collectors today over the more generic "bearing scraper."Bearing scraper per the catalog.
Nice selection. They used to come with a leather sleeve to protect the sharp edges. The term "Babbitt scraper" persisted long after bearing surfaces in automobiles were poured with some alloy other than a classic tin-based Babbitt (50's) and is still a popular term among collectors today over the more generic "bearing scraper."
That's a nice find, @BuddyC01. I could be wrong, but I don't recall seeing one on this thread before. Plenty of carbon scrapers, and I believe @RagTopTA has an even older A. PLOMB gasket scraper.
I like to collect them. And if someone ever breaks into the Lugzsonian when my .45 or a 1-inch drive Sliding Tee or a bigass Spud Wrench or my Pancho Villa machete is out of reach, guess what I am reaching for instead? (Some of them are extremely sharp!)![]()
Not meOk, let’s talk about the elephant/ “tote” in the room. Who bought it?
Should my box be painted olive drab ?
Where is you 3/4 and 1 inch drive ?

I finished the cleaning project on the large pebble DBE today. It still shows quite a bit of use plus ID markings but the flash pictures make it look pretty good.
