Absolutely. I just picked up a 1140 dbe this weekend. Pretty decent shape aside from the big weld bead right above the size/name. Appreciate the weld bead was a marker of sorts? But why?
Ha! I have a big DBE with a gnarly weld ID mark too! I’ll have to see if I can’t find it.

I got an adjustable wrench last year that had a big blob of braze on it. During my restoration efforts I removed most of it. I suppose that judicious use of a die grinder could remove a lot of the ugly weld on your new wrench. IMG_3256.jpegIMG_3268.jpegIMG_3269.jpeg-Don

'evening... Just got this a few days ago. Not sure just what it is but I think it's the only one in the world. PLVMB 2383. Ok, so probably not the only one but I haven't found another example. I'm sure someone here will know.

Cheers

Bearing scraper per the catalog.
The term "Babbitt scraper" persisted long after bearing surfaces in automobiles were poured with some alloy other than a classic tin-based Babbitt (50's) and is still a popular term among collectors today over the more generic "bearing scraper."

That's a nice find, @BuddyC01. I could be wrong, but I don't recall seeing one on this thread before. Plenty of carbon scrapers, and I believe @RagTopTA has an even older A. PLOMB gasket scraper.

I like to collect them. And if someone ever breaks into the Lugzsonian when my .45 or a 1-inch drive Sliding Tee or a bigass Spud Wrench or my Pancho Villa machete is out of reach, guess what I am reaching for instead? (Some of them are extremely sharp!) :)

Nice selection. They used to come with a leather sleeve to protect the sharp edges.

I wanted to get this one as I have the other, newer tool tote design but it went higher than what I wanted to pay given the modifications to this one. Hopefully someone will restore it!

Here are my two sets in that style of box. I measured them for Outlaw today. The boxes didn’t match the one he has. IMG_9883.jpegIMG_9882.jpegIMG_9881.jpegIMG_9880.jpeg
Should my box be painted olive drab ?
Procured a MFD era pebble 1/2 ratchet for the veterans set from eBay. Been looking for a clean one for a hot minute. Here it is with the bare finish it replaces.

Now the ratchet set is complete!

I started cleanup on these large DBE wrenches that arrived in my mailbox on June 8 from a GJ member. I’m sure that they will look better soon.

I finished the cleaning project on the large pebble DBE today. It still shows quite a bit of use plus ID markings but the flash pictures make it look pretty good.IMG_9905.jpegIMG_9907.jpegIMG_9909.jpegIMG_9908.jpeg
