Drivesitfar: Any idea where the Plomb girl article is from, I see Speed Age magazine, but can we narrow it down to a month? That'd be a fun one to frame!

Greetings all

Another (very grimy!) body hammer for the collection.

I didn't see any other identifying marks on it, but if somebody wants more info and can point me at 'the spot' I'll go look again.

Thanks for the great thread!

Jon

Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

Jon: cool hammer and dolly combo. I think i need to keep my eye open for a pair like that or do you have a trade in mind unless you want to keep them?

NB: ZEET started off a thread with that magazine article or ad as the main topic. here's the link and maybe he knows. I agree if my wife ever goes before i die then i think Paula might have to grace the walls of my shop.

Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

Greetings drivesitfar

My photos are a bit confusing: They are both of the same hammer. The Plomb makers mark is on the underside of the blade end...

I was inspired to go down and dig all my hammers out of all their hiding places and take a family shot after reading the 'Hammer Time' thread in the General Tools category (Post #903:http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=143435&page=46&highlight=hammer+time) . I didn't even know until I got everything together for the photo that this hammer was a Plomb (Ditto for several of the other hammers having brands that I had never noticed before. This site is infectious with knowledge...)

The body hammers and dollies that I have are all from my dads collection / working tool box, and are the only objects I have of his, so I won't be passing them on. I posted them only in hopes of contributing / giving back to the thread(s).

Cheers,

Jon

Picked up this Plomb wrench today along with a couple of Plomb Los Angeles. Stamped PLOMB T M CO. Looks to be pretty old.

This is what I ended up doing for my 9989 that had the missing tray. I don't plan to restore it, so I figured out the closest box. Got all my 3/8 plomb in there.

null_zps620a924b.jpg

The box was a fuzz narrow, so I just bent up some sheet metal and painted flat black.

null_zpstnc6dh62.jpg

Looks like that tray may have been optional though.

Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

I picked up my first Plomb ratchet this past week - a 1/2 drive pebble ratchet. I talked the seller into throwing it in for free after I purchased $70 worth of tools because it "needed to be rebuilt".

I also picked up a 3/8 drive WF breaker bar (that doubles as an extension) that I forgot to photograph. I'll get to that later ...

In addition to the Plomb pebble ratchet, I picked up a few more Plomb tools at the same location.

Pic 1:
- Plomb 3426 1/2 x 9/16 DOE wrench
- Plomb 3226 3/8 x 11/32 DOE right angle wrench
- Plomb 1214 7/16 combination wrench

Pic 2: Plomb WF-20 3/8" drive breaker bar/extension

Pic 3: Plomb 3045 "Los Angeles" 1" x 15/16" DOE. Anyone know what the 4A stamped on it means?

Great collection Project. Been on the hunt for a Plomb roll cab / Toolmobile for a long time. I have a flying lady toolmobile but the plomb still eludes me. Too bad somebody spray-bombed yours!!

Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

I have a PWA (Pratt & Whitney Aircraft) marked 9/16" angled crowfoot that was intended to reach starter mounting nuts on R-1830 aircraft engines. It has the elongated "square drive" with flat sides and angled ends. It was intended to give a swivel action so the extension could be at an angle to the wrench, rather than just square to it. This was because the mounting nuts were located in a recess under the starter motor.

I suspect that this crowfoot is a special tool for a similar situation.

I just checked the crows foot and the gentleman who posted after you is spot on with his info. I never realized the odd shaped drive opening nor had I noticed the pivoting action that the angled broach provides. The ball detent firmly engages the detent hole and the crows foot pivots up and down a few degrees while remaining snug around the drive plug.

Wow! Some excellent hoards of Plomb tools in here.
I've got a few pieces that I can dig out and post up.
Here's a pic of a nice 1/4" drive set I was able to score at the flea market last summer. Cost me $10! :rocker:

Nice little set, Username! I found some old center punches and drill bits while poking around in my basement yesterday and was surprised to find that Grandpa Al had left this rusty but usable Plomb in a drawer in his old wooden chest.

Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

I've been wanting a Plomb 5849 1" drive ratchet for quite some time now (I blame Drives for showing his and making me drool lol). Well, I went into one of my local second hand shops that usually has a lot of tools coming in and out, and found myself standing in front of this set, knowing I'd be bringing it home.

The set is in amazingly good condition. I took apart the ratchet at the store to see what it looked like on the inside, and it was beautiful.

Set included the plomb tool box, the 1" drive ratchet, sliding breaker bar, two different extensions, and 6 sockets (1 1/2", 1 11/16", 1 13/16", 1 7/8", 2", 2 1/4")

I placed my 1/2" drive plomb next to it for scale. I've been dreaming of getting one of these for ages, and I'm glad to finally have one. Now it's time to find the 1" drive sockets missing from my set!

Smokeshow69 - LOL that'd be nice. No, I paid $30 for the set and a couple misc wrenches.

Thanks guys, I was pretty stoked. Really don't have a *need* for it, but that's never the point anyway lol. I think GJ causes a lot of that... I think I have maybe a dozen ratchets or so at this point and plan to buy more... Ah well, gotta give the wife something to ***** about :lol_hitti

Just kidding, btw Smokeshow... I paid about what I'd consider full retail, just couldn't let it go.:drool:

Filson: you lucky So and So. now i need that BREAKER BAR and we'll need more pictures of that box the are sitting in.

i'm not feeling bad at all about making you want my 1 inch Plvmb ratchet because i've bought maybe 200 vises looking for a REED 208.

BTW i still haven't even seen an 8 inch REAL old US vise in person yet so thanks back at you.

nice find and post up more pictures of your box and each tool so maybe some of us can help you fill the holes or trade for your duplicates.

hope the farm isn't too much work

Cheers
