Smokeshow69 - LOL that'd be nice. No, I paid $30 for the set and a couple misc wrenches.

Thanks guys, I was pretty stoked. Really don't have a *need* for it, but that's never the point anyway lol. I think GJ causes a lot of that... I think I have maybe a dozen ratchets or so at this point and plan to buy more... Ah well, gotta give the wife something to ***** about :lol_hitti

Just kidding, btw Smokeshow... I paid about what I'd consider full retail, just couldn't let it go.:drool:

Um, $30 bucks is WAY under retail for that box-o-plomb. Easily worth 3-4 times that, probably more if you ebay it.

I almost bit on that $30 comment! I don't know what you consider retail, but anything less than $300 for that set is a steal. Of course, I would have tried offering $100 just to get a conversation started ...

Even if you paid near retail you still got a good deal. That set looks mint and you can't go back in time to pick up another so might as well pony up and get a good set when you have the chance

Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

I'll try and get some more pics of the stuff up in the next few days. Got a lot of school work to get done before we take off this weekend out of town, but I'll try to find some time in there somewhere (might be early next week).

Drives - schools the thing keeping me busy, but I think it'll be a pretty busy year around the property (yay lol). As for the Reed 208; the ol gal isn't green anymore, but was a quick paint test (I just shot over the green) to see what a different color would look like. I like it a lot, so going to strip her down and paint her proper the new color.

Come to think of it, I've picked up a handful of stuff over the past year or so I've been fairly inactive on GJ... I'll have to spend an evening taking pics and posting stuff.

There's a Reed 106 for sale locally to me, Drives... They've been asking $100 obo and looks like it's in descent condition. I just can't pull the trigger after the glares of death from my wife after spending $400 on a BBQ, buying a farm truck and an old cub cadet garden tractor lately lol.

Picked this up last nite. Mostly Plomb, sockets already put away (about 25 1/2" deep and standard).

Filson: if you have time to post pictures of your 208 with the new color on the vise thread you have my vote because i do need to update my saved pictures of one of my White Whales i'm hoping to find and own one day.

Happy Wife, Happy Life so just say yes dear as often as possible. better to ask for forgiveness than ask for permission is one i don't use often, but at times it comes in handy if i won't get killed because of it.

anyway post up a few more pictures here of you big Plvmb socket set and box when you get a chance because I (we) are all jealous.

Farmer: nice stuff and if you can take and post up some pictures of your socket set too please do.

thanks guys

Had a flat-rate box of old 1/2" drive Plvmb sockets, extensions and a stud extractor I sent to another GJ member on a trade...as it turned out, a one-way trade.

Plomb ****, per your request.

Box is in great shape, hinges and latches all feel solid, no wobble/looseness or any issues.

My other random plomb ratchets and breaker bars thrown in.

And just for kicks, added my snapon (anyone know approxiomate date?), old craftsman ratchet and some no-name vintage ratchet.

Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

Filson: thanks for taking the time to post up more pictures of your VERY COOL and HUGE Plvmb set you just bought. I really can't say on what the ages are of the sockets and maybe one of the other members that owns the catalogs or knows can post and tell both (all) of us.

I can say isn't it crazy how big that 1 inch ratchet is. look at just the head of it filling up your hand. OMG

the sockets with the holes in them will your breaker bar fit in the holes?

thanks again for sharing and AWESOME find.

also post up some new pictures of your re painted Reed 208 on the vise thread so I can resave them and update my pictures of one of my DREAM vises.

cheers

Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

Drives - yes, the sockets fit the breaker bar (intentionally.) The breaker bar head can actually side down the whole handle and come off at the other end of the bar. You can then just slide whatever socket you want on and start working.

And yeah, I'll be taking some pics of it as well as a few other odds and ends I've picked up lately, probably this coming week.

It really is a bit surreal how big these ratchets are. I studied the pic of yours a bit, trying to get a mental image in my head for scale, but it simply doesn't compare. A bit like those 8" vises.. 6" vises in comparison just look like little trinkets. When I seen the plomb sitting there, I'm pretty sure my eyes got about as big as the wrench itself lol.

3 Bay garage - awesome, thank you! About what would be the age on it?

Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

I would (with about 80% confidence) date all those 1" tools to 1946. These don't appear to have date codes, which ended in '45. Sometime in '46/47 they changed over to "MFD USA" from "Made in USA" and in December of '48 they went to the Proto/Plomb Dual marked.

I added a (mostly complete) set of 1/2" drive Plomb sockets and a Plomb "pebble" 5467 1/2" drive breaker bar to my collection last night. Also pictured is a 3/8" drive 3" WF extension I got recently but only now photographed.

Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

Riley: was that part of that big socket haul you made a couple days ago or another purchase? nicely done sir. i see everything in your pictures isn't plvmb, but most of them are and some interesting items for sure.

Twertsy: yes we should maybe swap homes for a week or two. i'll buy a few anvils and vises that seem to pop up on your side more often and you can find Plvmb laying on the ground around here. :dunno:

heck i saw a piece of a Plvmb wrench cut in half being used as a shim on a bench i bought last year. i didn't want to take a picture and post because it just wasn't HUMAN to do so. :shocking:

Moore: i started a thread in Free Parking last year that might help you and others called how to post pictures from your cell phone. in any case posting one at a time is a little bit of a pain, but you at least were able to post pictures and just curious if you are done because it sounded like you might have had a few more to share?

It was part of an somewhat expensive lot I purchased yesterday. I listed it this morning on the 2016 garage sale thread here (along with 4 posts following this one): http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=5562950&postcount=1286

Where are you located, Klein? I wanna know if I'm competing with you for those ReStore finds ...

Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

KK: I found a Plvmb today laying on the ground. it was in a toolbox, but the box was on the ground. :D

since you haven't put your location in your GJ profile which part of Plvmb heaven do you live in?

I heard from a 75 year old today that was selling some of his 97 year old dad's tools that Blackhawk was better than Snap on in the day. he hadn't heard of plvmb and he was a heavy equipment operator for 40 years.

go figure

Moore: Simple Green or SG as some here call it is a nice option to WD 40. also vinegar for rusty tools, but don't leave it in the vinegar very long or it will start eating the steel (I know it eats cast iron).

^ Some nice Plomb.

I'm on an ancient Plomb kick. My latest find, a 5/8" offset screwdriver marked PLOMB T.M.C. , like the old tappet wrench I found several weeks ago. This thing is beastly looking.
