Rag Top, that wrench could be a dedicated tubing wrench. Look at how beefy the flanks of the opening are. 1-1/2" is the standard opening for a 1" bolt, but more importantly for the hex on the tube nuts on 1" AN (37° flare) fittings, so the 1AM marking may be identifing the proper wrench for the fitting. Most likely WWII military.

Edit: Smokeshow is right about the 2624 being a spud (ironworking, with a tapered handle for aligning holes) wrench. My money says that the spud wrench was chosen for making a special wrench for the customer (US Government is my guess) because the forging had extra thick walls around the box end.

I believe the 1 AM stamping is the customer ID, but it could be a fastener size. And it was applied at the Plomb factory.

Very good info thanks! so you think it was made at the factory like that then? It sure looks almost perfectly even on the insides of the cut away to be a owner mod... no grind marks and smooth. looks to be perfectly even on both sides as well...

Finally took this out after a decade or better, thinking it was Plomb. I swear it magically transitioned from Plomb to Proto sitting in the box all that time. :lol_hitti

A big ugly Proto Los Angeles 3070. Still, a pebble and a very hefty wrench.

picked up a WF-24 at the swap meet yesterday. it was dangling from a no-name frozen import ratchet at the bottom of a cardboard box and looking entirely out of place. i couldn't leave it there and $1.50 later it was mine. it had already had it's day and then some, but it's sitting in the collection today.

Bill,
That is a nice adjustable wrench. I found kind of an odd pair of smooth jaw Proto pliers this morning at an estate sale. When I did some research I found several examples of a 248-S but they don't have the brass jaws. I did a patent search and in the patent drawing the jaws were shown. Here are some pictures. The pliers without the jaws were previously discussed here.

Saw this on the bay and had to have it. First for my collection with the PLOMB fully ground off on a pebble wrench.

Bill, that's a nice Plomb adjustable!
Don, Very cool pair of brass jaw pliers. Never seen something like that before.
Todd... man, you find some interesting stuff. I've seen plenty of grind offs, but never one that had the brand re-applied. Very cool!

A little far afield, but still a Plomb: Craftsman circle-U 3/8 T-handle, made by Plomb/Penens 1944-1948.

Did someone from here get the nice 3/4 pebble ratchet, breaker bar, and three extensions (short, medium, and long) at the Rickreall Swap Meet on Sunday? They were in excellent conditon, plated with a satin finish, and marked for $100.00. I use mine, so I left them for a collector.

Unfortunately I had other things going on so I didn't get a chance to go, else I might have tried coming home with them!

Find any other cool items there?

Hi Provincial, I was at the Rickreall swap meet in the morning. I passed that 3/4 pebble set about three times and the owner was pretty set on getting a $100 bill for it. I found quite a bit of other stuff there also...I guess I shouldn't have passed by that fourth time. Got him down a little. Ed.

Ed, I was looking at that machinist stuff, too but all I was really interested in was the adjustable parallels, since I already have the other items. You snatched them up just before I went back the last time!

Sounds like we narrowly missed meeting there Provincial. I really only wanted the Helios adjustable parallels from that table also but he wouldn't separate them from the rest or even price them. He wanted $50 for all so I offered $40 and he said Ok. There was too much stuff there to pass and even though they are mostly doubles or even triples for me also I have several machines I like to keep these types of tools near. A pic of the Pebble set at home with the rest of my 3/4" drive Plomb. Ed.

Now I know why I can't find any 3/4 extensions or t bars here in Oregon... It is because they are in your box! Nice finds!

A 3061 pebble is hard to find in any condition. Nice find.

I agree [emoji23] I only got this one because I traded Rileysan for a p&c carb adjusting tool that he really wanted!

Bear in mind the largest screwdriver is almost 19" long ! I put a proto better grip #2 screwdriver there for perspective ! He also helped me mule train another proto la top box down from Washington ! Thanks again rileysan [emoji108]

Rag, that cleaned up nice. The story reminds me of some of the hardened, long time flea sellers I used to know. They'd rather let it sit and bring it back for months or even years than take a nickel less than they want, lol.

Some early Plomb sockets from yesterday. There is an 8A stamp on each one. What say you guys on the date?

Man I've never seen any of those really old Plomb sockets in the wild! I want to find a set though!

3Bay: Last month he was kinda an *** about it. Or I would have bought it. He also has a really rusty 1/2 pebble breaker. He wanted $50 for both. Nah... you can keep em dude.

Smoke: I now have a big gap to fill up to 3070 !!

Been so busy I have barely gotten to any sales last couple weeks.

NotLob: I own a 1 inch Plvmb ratchet and it's a BIG UN that is for certain. one thing to note for those looking at the one NL just posted cause it's missing it's piece to turn the sockets that might be UNOBTANIUM. or does Proto still have that part to sell you if you want to buy it?

Smoke: are you cornering the supply of all the Plvmb top boxes in the PNW? do you have a family photo of them to post?

Moore: i think we need more pictures of your new 70 ish year old roller when you have some time.

so you RAN INTO IT? :dunno:

Well I will post some pics in a few weeks but yes, I am slowly cornering the top box market[emoji23] think of me as becoming the rileysan of plomb boxes ( like his red and grey cman tool box collection). I visited Oregon rock crusher this weekend and tried to pry another plomb tool box out of his grips but no dice. I do have some experiance with people who don't want to sell right away [emoji23][emoji16]

I found a few pebble wrenches the other day. Unfortunately the 11/16" wrench is missing and 9/16" is the smallest, but still fun to find them.

This wooden wedge is something I have been playing with, to bundle sets together. Different wedge angles fit some sets better than others. I think I will share the others I have made in a new thread.
