I got a few Plomb tools today that were part of a larger deal. The whole pile cost me $20.

- Misc Plomb sockets - the 5 sockets in the upper right. How common are 3/8" drive deep sockets?
- Plomb 1/2" drive pebble ratchet
- Plomb 1/2" drive pebble breaker bar
- Plomb 3/8" drive breaker bar
- Plomb 3/8" drive 4" extensions (x2)
- Plomb 1/4" drive 8" extension. I double checked this one. Definitely 1/4" drive, not 9/32"

Brian
3/8 deeps are pretty uncommon. I look for over a year for a set then found 2 within a month.
1/2 deeps seem to be really challenging to find.
Nice pick ups. That is a lot of plomb drive tools.

Here is my finds for the week. Alot of proto and proto LA.
1/2 drive socket set all proto except for 1 plomb deep.
Ratchet parts and pieces including a 3/4 drive plug. Looks to be NOS
And last but not least a proto LA hacksaw.13d688b71ebfe85c30bec5e3a7b75808.jpg

I found a couple of Proto LA plain finish wrenches along with a very nice pebble DOE wrench to go with my obligatory (at least for me) Barcalo wrenches. Most of the Proto LA tools I find are plated. I wonder why these are plain steel?

Anyone know what this tool was used for? It's P/N 7125, and it is a 7/16" hex,1/2" Dr. 8" Extension.

No responses?

A lock button extension for power sockets or impact sockets used on a drill/driver or assembly line work.

Never noticed one of these tools by Plomb. Is it in any catalog?

Kind of interesting that it's plated.

I came across this Plomb 4748 ratchet at the swap meet over the past two weekends. Rather, I should say, Oregonrockcrusher and I came across this ratchet at the same time last weekend. We both examined it and both thought it unusual. We checked the size and it is a 1/4" drive ratchet.

ORC told me he went back and it was no longer on the seller's table so when I went back yesterday, I asked the seller if he still had it. He told me he did, and that he pulled it off the table because so many people were critical of his price of $75.00. He intends to list it on eBay instead of trying to explain himself to everyone.

I found an early WF-8 9/32" drive that is of the same style that recently sold on eBay for $64. I don't know if that's a good comparison or not.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/uncommon-Pl...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

Armed with my camera, I went back again today and asked if I could take pictures of it.

Perhaps one of you can tell me if this one is actually rare and worth the price being asked? Should I have made him an offer? I am really curious about it.

I case you're wondering, I got his contact information as well.

Brian

That's a heck of a lot of money. The elongated heads are less common than the rest, and he's looking for that end of the rainbow buyer, as they say. It is in nice shape, I'll give him that.

Me personally, there are maybe a few items (not talking Plomb) I would throw down some coin on if even given the chance. Many things that I'd love to buy but priced high, I just say to myself well, I will most likely find it down the road for less somewhere.

Tell him to cut his price by half and you'll take it! By half I mean two thirds. :D Hey, you never know. Can you tell I like haggling?

I picked up this 3/4 set recently- I post in the garage sale thread and was looking for a little more info on it. From what I've gathered it's WWII era and in pretty decent condition with no owner markings. I was wondering if there was more to the set ? - seems like there should be more sockets. If anyone has a catalog pic that would be cool. It Includes a Ratchet 5649, T 5685, breaker 5668, 8"ext 5661 & 16"ext 5663.

The sizes pictured are 1 7/16 5546, 1 3/8 5544, 1 5/16 5542, 1 1/4 5540, 1 3/16 5538, 1 1/8 5536 & 1 1/16 5534. There is some larger sizes up to 2" but they are herbrand. 0efe7d6256ac0a9870f80ecfc43276b7.jpg

In the pics there is a 3/8 ratchet and swivel that I picked up a few years ago as well a recent 6" pipe wrench. Plomb just seems so rare in my area but from getting about 30 pages into this thread is it like that all over ?

From my understanding the 5 line sockets in 3/4 are LA and are older than the 2 line sockets. Very nice find and plomb is hard to come by in these parts except for 1/2 drive sockets seem to plentiful for the most part.

Haven't posted these yet so here goes. The first set in the gold box is my regular Plomb collection. The second set in the red box is my Plomb WF set (not complete).

S 5480 and it's actually a metal handle. I can't find it in the catalogs I have but it's a special order 5480 speeder.
What's the back story to that speeder (where did you aquire it). I think snap mom had a similar deep offset speeder in a picture on a wall. I am unsure of the brand but I would assume it is snap on or affiliated.

Here is an early spud wrench I picked up at the Tahoe flea yesterday. It has the round O and year markings but no part number that I could find.

Had a bit of a dry spell with very few auctions up here lately but stopped by a pawn shop in a town I have never been to before and found a few pieces including my first ever wild found DD socket.
Along with what appear to be a proto rebuild kit with a quick release. Couldn't pass it up for $.50. the levers look like they would work in plomb and proto ratchets. I have never heard of a proto quick release pear head ratchet.2cdc7ecf8366a65b996cb3f3010f1a5f.jpg

If I come across another one I will grab it for you.

Thanks. That would be something if you found another.

Nice one. I haven't seen many like that. I think Williams had a big hold on the spud market, at least in my area.

R, nice finds. Maybe that will fit a Proto, but most likely a kit for a knockoff. I don't think Proto ever made a QR version of their classic design.

That plate looks like like the 70s vintage Gray or Challenger, pull some measurements and post them up... I have an old Gray that the rebuild kit is NLA and would be interested if it is a match.

i picked up another box on eBay for my 1/4" set and it turns out that I have enough extras for almost another complete set, just missing the 9/32" socket and a spinner. A spinner like the one Tin Medic posted above would be perfect.;)

I picked this up on eBay just because of the date code - "MC". In all regards it appears to be a perfect exemplar of a wartime Plomb 5449 1/2" drive ratchet. Did 1943 have an extra month? Is it possible that "I" or "J" was skipped as a prefix letter to avoid confusion? Anybody else seen any Plomb tools stamped "MC"? Inquiring minds want to know!

Found a Plomb 3/8 drive 1/4 socket that is dual marked 5208 and WF-25. Out of all my WF collection this is the only tool I've noticed dual marked in this way. Wonder if they dual marked toward the end of the WF contract to put into regular distribution?

I would guess it was early in the contract production. We see the same thing with SO sockets have multiple date codes such as 1941 and then a G code for 1945.
