That exact wrench rides in the junk storage on the console of my pickup. Use it a lot to take the canopy clamps off; or to tighten them. They vibrate loose periodically.

The newer proto version, that isn't quite as much offset is one of my favorite wrenches. I think there's only 3 or 4 of them; i wish there was a whole range of sizes. I have all of them that are available. Very handy for putting in your pocket, they are smooth and small and give you two chances at the bolt size you guessed at.

I added my recent Plomb chisel and punches to my others and figured it would be a good photo op.

Yesterday I was looking through my Plomb stuff for WF pieces and I found this and didn’t even realize I had one of the A Plomb tools. Pretty cool

Is that a Ford brake wrench?

DonkDonk I'm not sure if my PM reply got to you or not. I did receive your message and would be interested in the WF pieces you found if you'd like to trade or sell.

Here are some of my double marked tools. I’m not sure why, but I always liked these that are marked Plomb/proto. The 3/4” ratchet is marked Plomb one side, Proto the other. They could obviously use some cleaning though

Here is my newest Plomb 1/4" drive set destined for my wartime Navy toolbox. It came with some wartime Plomb tools that will be heading to Colorado and I filled it from a set I had on hand. I'm still missing the 3/16" socket but I made do with a 7/32" as a temporary stand in. The missing socket is a 4706 in case anyone has an extra.

That's only the second one I have ever seen. I have one as well. but mine is not in nearly the nice condition as yours.

Now yours is the only other one I've seen. Very impressive! When mine showed up on eBay, pointed out to me by GJ member Tin Medic, I thought it would be a great addition to my Navy NAF tool collection. I was pleasantly surprised by how few other bidders there were. Here is a shot next to my other set.

Interesting the Navy got their own special paint on the box.

I have three WF ratchets but the one on the left is different....is it just a different year....any info?
Several marking variations have been seen across all WF ratchets, including the WF-8. If you mean the hole at the end, it also could've had a crank knob on the end of it. They also sold that variant to Ma Bell and powerline companies.

My guess would be transition period, late - WF-8's have even been seen with same frame but Proto markings on the plate, but I'm out, on phone, and I'd want to consult my notes or TA before saying more than that. Others might chime in.

I've seen the same variation with the straight oval vs "figure 8" body in the Plomb 3/8 and 1/2 drive WF ratchets. I'm guessing one is later design than the other?

The tools were being manufactured in 31 factories during the war. It's surprising that there aren't even more variations.

A no. 235 showed up. Seems in realy good shape considering how easy such a small pliers could get mangled over so many years.

That’s a cool merchandiser! I wonder if it could be rigged to say, “Exterminate! Exterminate!”?

Today’s find. Dual-marked 7/16 combo.

Alloy Artifacts says this name format began early 1948 and persisted only into early 1950, because of violating a court settlement. But then they show a couple combos like this one confidently dated 1948, without any “8” that I can see in the photos. So maybe there’s additional cause to believe it was only made this way in 1948. That would make this variation less numerous than those produced for longer stretches of time.
