Hey Smoke, I have the lopers and I have a buddy who has the shears and some other stuff. I have pics of the 2 diff. kinds of sprinklers that I'm aware of....I was sent a pic of a catalog page years ago....not sure what even is available.

I noticed looking at a picture that my ‘39 Challenger ratchet looked a little different than my other 3/8” drive ratchets. I checked today and here is why. There are no markings on the plug.

Look what the Easter Bunny left in my basket a day early! A Plomb LA Model No. 3440 13/16" x 7/8" tappet wrench! :)

Now all I need is a roll-up to have a complete 3400C set.

EDIT: I've been talking about having some leatherette roll-ups made for a few years. I have plans for a few different kinds from a few different mfgrs, I may just add a Plomb 2405 to the list of models to simulate. Does anyone have ANY Plomb roll-up? If so, please post. Doesn't matter which. The "black trimmed with silver" is easy enough to picture, but I'd like to see the branding area in particular.

Thanks again, Roy. Likewise on my odds and ends in return.
Yes. Got your as well and I am stumped by the deepwell socket. It doesn't have a cross bar hole. I have not seen this yet from this period of sockets. Have to head to the archieves.[emoji2]

Uh-oh! So more odd than end, then? I know you needed that one to complete your standard 1/2-inch drive 53xx extra deep series, so I hope you still consider it a check mark in that box. That is just one of those strange collectors' coincidences, because that was literally the only 1/2-inch drive 53xx series extra deep socket I have ever found! And the only other deep Plomb socket I have - prior to the 5000SP set - is that 3/8-inch drive PWA socket with the male wrench tang. So I wouldn't have known it was an anomaly. So all your other 53xx extra deep sockets have a cross bar hole, huh? Hopefully there was no similar weirdness with the electrical wrench!

It's no worries at all. I always like finding a new piece that I didn't know existed. The electrical wrenches came in 2 version as well. I haven't been separating them out yet but the came in a standard and a recessed panel. Overall all is good here.

Roy,
After reading about your deep 1/2 socket set all having cross bar holes I decided to check mine since I completed this piece of my set (other than the spark plug sockets) some time ago. Part of mine do and some don't. I'm ok with mine being mixed for now, but will probably go back at some point and try to find full sets of both versions.

I've been chasing a 3/4 pebble breaker bar for quite some time. Like many of you, I sometimes concede defeat at the flea markets and turn to Ebay.

I've run into other Garage Journal members on Craigslist, real life and on various online markets but I did not expect to find our very own Private Lugnutz via his Ebay auction.

Over the years this site has been a lot of fun and I've had a lot of nice folks help me out. This time Lugz and even Twertsy were in on my purchase (somehow) and when it arrived, I found a nice Garage Journal surprise inside the box.

The breaker now lives with his other 3/4 friends.
:)

HAHA! Imagine my surprise when I hit the 'PRINT SHIPPING LABEL' and saw your name and address pop up. It was a bit of a pickle, so I had a 'What would Jesus do?' moment and consulted with Todd instead! That was what I had in my pocket at the time! So, have a cup of coffee on me. :)

I noticed in a Plomb catalog while browsing through it a while back, there were S added to some models of sockets. The foot note said it denotes the sockets that have the crossbar hole or dont if I remember correctly. But, it makes me wonder...Why didnt they All just have the holes in them ?

The crossbar hole is an extra step in the manufacturing process that adds to the cost. If the hole is not needed by the customer, eliminating it can lower the purchase price.

The most obvious need for the crossbar hole is when there is not enough clearance to use a drive handle in the square drive. This is a rare situation, and since crossbar holes disappeared from most manufacturers lines, it is likely that few customers required the hole.

Mine are not marked with the S that have the hole. This would follow the spark plug potentially if they did have the hole. The ones that don't still have a hole but a very small one probably to indicated the loaction of the where the ball dedent goes.

I meant it was noted In the catalog with a s by its number, not on the tool itself.

Plomb WWII training film, Part I, Wrenches, produced for the Signal Corps, and preserved and presented on-line by the Oklahoma Historical Society, linked here. It's about 20 minutes long. This may have been posted here before. The subject of a Plomb flyer listing all of their wartime training films just came up offboard and it made me think of it. If you haven't seen it, enjoy. It's fun identifying the box and all the tools. It's also a little humorous at times, in hindsight.

Here’s a neat piece I picked up on the bay for a couple of bucks. An unused Plomb matchbook cover. Made in Los Angeles too. It’s amazing that this stuff survives as long as it does.
