No rush. At your own good time. But you gotta figure everyone is going to want to see more when you show something that unique. And when nobody has seen one before, there're going to be skeptics. It's just the nature of the place. No offense.

It's starting to ring bells for me. And the frame is looking more and more "L.A." the more and more I think about it. I'm gong to go back through references and literature.

So we have a first post that some may find questionable. What have the members done in the past? Usually the norm would be to offer our new member some form of guidance as to what they have found. Why are we assuming he is trying defraud us? I have came to this group multiple times with questions of absurdity and never has one member questioned my ignorance. That's why I stay here. To learn more about what I enjoy learning about. The great members here have done years of research for factual evidence because that's what they enjoy. We now have a first post. I ask our esteemed members to continue with presidents of past.

It's possible that a couple recent episodes with new members may have caused some long-term members' sensitivities to be heightened.
It's also right after Christmas and people tend to get a bit crazy - along the same lines of "crazy" as when relatives die.
Don't take it personally.

I'm fascinated by the idea of a neon light-up promotional sign for a tool line, even though PLOMB is on my "do not go down this rabbit hole" list.
Looking forward to seeing it in all its glory all lit up.

Basically asking/expecting someone to "show their work" is hardly throwing some kids puppy into a wood chipper...this is an adult tool thread after all.....But I agree that it is bad form to thoughtlessly alienate new posters.

It's all good X, I can only imagine finding something as bad *** as that sign with limited knowledge and following google to the best resources available garage journal and then getting blown up over it. I hope it's the real deal just because I believe in people. If it's not then that wont be the first time that's happened here and we all gain some knowledge for it. Win win.

Good point Lugnutz ... I will take more pics but at the moment it is very securely attached to the wall. I will try to do it Monday. Fair enough?
Welcome to thread and what an entry. Who has this collection that is being liquidated? I have been looking for a couple pieces for quite few years. Would love to see if the collector had any.

I’ve decided that I should quit drooling over the sign for a while and post some pictures from today. I put the completed ratchet back in the ‘39 Challenger set and used yesterday’s finds to upgrade the other two sets. The green set got the small sockets and u-joint and the red set got the speeder and an extension.

That 39 set is mint. Great work on it. I bet that took a while.

Nice find on the SR sockets Username!

Thanks! The first 3/8" drive that I've found.

Nice find on the SRs. That 3/4 has a uniquely large stamping on the size. Can you take another shot of that one showing the size marker?

Sure thing. The 3/8 socket has a large stamp on it as well. :headscrat

Fantastic!

Start the timer on when someone finds a second one, or makes a repop. :)

Interestingly, that part of Ohio was a hotbed for advertising manufacturing. My Billings tool boards were made by Beach in Coshocton.

So it looks like the actual sign is being held in place by those ties that go across the corners and then thru the back plate. Is that right? I think I see generally the same mounting set up on other online image examples from the same sign company. Can you tell what material the actual Plomb sign is printed on? Plastic? Glass? Hard Board? Thanks.

The actual sign appears to be glass, with the graphic painted or etched from behind, because the face is perfectly smooth. The backplate is metal, and those ties you see crossing the corners in the front are like thin metal staples that go all the way through and then are bent on the backplate to secure.

That's good info.

I appreciate all the appreciation of my neon. I was so giddy when I got home from the pick that I immediately took one photo and then it went straight into a box nestled with packing stuff. It lived in that box for maybe 2 years until a couple months ago when I put it in a prime spot, figured it needed to be seen.

Thanks for the welcome wishes, as well as from others ... especially the "you ****!" from jusridin, which I gladly accept as the highest compliment.

Below you will see my Plomb ratchet drawer. Each era represented, 1/2" drive, 3/8", 1/4", and 9/32". My 3/4" drive didn't make it in the shot.

Mr. Skooch:

The sign if truly fabulous.

About that unit to the left in that image above: did you take that into a chrome shop and have it re-plated?

;)

I didn't, but the guy I bought it from did it. Normally I do not keep doubles, but that one is a unicorn, and the action is just as sweet as the rest of them. Kinda shiny huh?
