Here's another group shot of the other stuff I got. My WF38-T, missing the internals, but with the repair kit, there is all the guts I need to fix it. A 1933 3/8" ratchet, 1938 1/4" ratchet.
But what I want to know, any idea what the S shaped thing is? It's marked 1/2. No date code, no arrowhead, guessing must be very early.
Where to begin! Great finds and several items I've never seen. Congrats!

Mine are all the JPD era versions. I've never found one of the early ones like yours and Don's.
They are definitely harder to find.
Here are some Plomb items. I may have posted some of these before.
-Don
Very nice 1/4s
Well gang, just picked up 25+ new items for the collection, next week I am going back to get more.
Here's one of the best pieces, a Plomb Tool Repair kit wood box, loaded with repair pieces for ratchets
Oh My. Let me check on the tool in the last picture to see. It is either a chisel/gouge or maybe a valve alignment tool if I had to guess.

That is a lot of early Plomb. I would love to hear the story on this one. Don't be afraid to buy me something.[emoji38]

Here's more of what I picked up, mostly all mid 30's and earlier stuff, including a KCT8 Chevy valve adjuster, a pebble 7/8" wrench that was never broached, early feeler gauges, some early '20's open end wrenches, a 9/32 to 1/4 adapter, etc.

Now that's more like it! Awesome pick Bro! A bunch of those deserve better pictures after you clean 'em up.

This week's additions to the collection, not a whole lot.
3060 DOE, 3734 1 1/16 flare wrench, 6501 Ford cam gear wrench 1¾" dated 1933, 4 3/8" drive sockets, with one being a real oddball, 5221, 21/32" socket. Dated 1941, and still having the original lacquer on it, I honestly didn't even know Plomb made a 21/32" in 3/8" drive. The other weird tool, the K4something grind off tool, dated 1929. The unmarked end is 9/16", the smaller is 1/4". I can find nothing with this partial number or size combo in a catalog. But being a grind off, it was an employee purchased tool. Maybe it was a one off, or specially made, factory custom? The K tools were the specialized tools, car specific usually it seems.
Here is the K4 in the catalog.Screenshot_20200714-222032.jpeg

Roy, thanks! The 2004 replaced it, that solves it.

As for today's new additions, I'll be cleaning up the ones that need it. I've got more stuff on hold from the guy that I'll be getting later this week, maybe. The horde grows!

Wow, that's quite a haul Mustang. I like the unfinished wrench, and of course the parts box.

The unfinished wrench is a neat conversation piece, it's actually the 2nd unfinished that I have. I have a DOE that is unfinished. Makes you wonder how they ever got out of the factory. But the Plomb LA is close by, in fact I work 5 minutes from the original plant.
I didn't even notice until last night, but the box, under the lid, has repair instructions for the ratchets, detent balls, and pliers. The kit even still has the tools to set the detent balls in the ratchets. I can post them if anybody wants to see.

A dual marked 6" Adjustable
An LA finger carbon scraper.
Lastly an early WF-21 ratchet that had the 1940 on/body.IMG_20200715_171243436.jpg

Very cool, X.

Looking at early non-detachable era crows feet wrenches really helps one understand the name much better than looking at modern detachable era crows feet wrenches. (Keeping it in the family, through eventual marriage I guess, so to speak, I remember that it was you who helped identify pre-Plomb P&C as the earliest major OEM to make female detachable versions, in 1928, after the cruder male detachables that Charles Miller was making as early as 1921. Link here.)

I remember that one. That was an interesting thread. As for these tools, I like the the way the octagonal stock transitions into a 4 sided base at the drive end in some kind of cool primitive / deco style.

I’m glad it made it okay. It’s getting pretty hard to come up with any Plomb that you don’t already have!

Put my Plomb (converted later to Proto) boards up on the wall today. I'm filling them with Proto MFD to match the sticker era. A few years ago, I purged and sold all my MFD stuff as they were my working tools, and I upgraded to Pro. So, this represents a year of sorting out MFD from my excess and accumulating a few more.

One reason that my most recent Plomb 9989 box went for a fairly reasonable price on eBay is that one of the hinges on the upper tray was broken. I finally got together with my neighbor today and he ran a quick bead on the hinge while I held wet towels around the site to minimize heat buildup and the resultant paint damage. It’s not the prettiest repair ever but it’s strong and the hinge works perfectly.

Finds from the weekend. Found a little chrome DBE not show, in good condition. A de-chromed 5/8 shown, and a WF-36, which is a genuinely good tool I look forward to using. Cad plated, very nice condition.

Sunday I made a 2nd run to the guy I been getting some Plomb from, here's the horde's latest additions.
Same as before, lots of 20's & 30's stuff, and another Plomb ratchet repair kit, but this one smaller and in a cardboard box.
6508 Ford valve tool date1935, 47 1/2x3/16 pin punch date 1938, 5265 3/8 bar from 1937, AD1314 DBE wrench from 1930, 42426 DOE wrench, 9/16 single end tappet wrench from early to mid 20's, 5344 socket War Finish, 3530 engineer wrench, 1/2" single end tappet from early to mid '20's, 3047-N DOE wrench, F9S Ford main bearing wrench from early to mid '20's, X1920 wrench from 1931, 9822 screwdriver, X1516 DOE from 1931, US523 23/32 crow foot, 5718 9/16 crows foot but this number didn't seem to appear in any catalog, 710S adjustable from 1947, 43244 DOE, 7474H, 7475H, 7478H, 7479H heavy duty universals.
The collection now is approaching almost 1300 pieces.

Wow, that place is a real honey hole. More good stuff in there! The ratchet repair kit, large engineer wrenches and the bottom 5 number doe[emoji15] did you clean him out of everything or is that it? How did this guy have this much rare stuff in one spot?

So he's a tool dealer, one of quite a few here in Southern California. He bought this large Plomb collection from a old collector in L.A. a few months ago, but with all this Covid stuff I guess hadn't done much with it. I saw him at one of the swap meets the other week and gave him my number to contact me. This is maybe only 15-20% of what's there. I picked most of the odd or rare stuff, a lot of what remains is common stuff.

Nice Mustang. The F9S doubles as a drive wrench for the 9/16" Y series sockets.
The crowsfeet would be in early 30s catalog.
Congrats on the 1300 mark!

That makes sense now on the crows foot. This one had the kind of rough finish that often is seen on the late 40's stuff which led me to think it was later. This one I don't think has ever been used, it's got no wear marks on it.
Thanks.

Had to work for my supper tonight, but found this overlooked in the bottom of a toolbox full of mostly ****. Ironically found two crusty Sacagawea dollar coins among a small pile of centavos which I turned over to the hispanic woman selling the tools, and she graciously applied them to my total purchase.
