Who sniped the LP1 chisel the other day? I thought I had it for sure.

My biggest issue with Plomb, Plomb/Proto, and Proto LA boxes is that they used decals or painted on lettering and have faded, scratched, or worn off or are covered in dirt.

It's the ONLY reason why I genuinely prefer a Proto Flying lady, has a more robust metal tag and she looks cute lol

I found this little box hiding in my own tool box, holding sockets in the open position. It'd been there so long, I'd forgotten what it was. That was kind of a fun find.

I just picked up this one from rileysan. Box is in pretty good shape! I hear you on the metal tags lasting longer but I don’t mind some patina on the older stuff!

I like Plomb patina but fresh looking original isn’t bad either.

So here’s why I was asking about the 4796 midget box a few days ago. I scored a pair of plomb boxes full of stuff off the bay recently. Looked like they had a good assortment of stuff in them. Here’s the overall pictures

Here’s the contents. The first picture is the more common stuff including two 4749 ratchets and six 4714 sockets.
The second picture is the less common stuff. All new pieces for me. 4710L, 4736, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, and the 3250 carb spanner. All the special stuff looks brand new with traces of factory varnish on it. Almost all have the 1939 date code too.
The last photo is the misc. stuff including a snap on 9/32” to 1/4” adapter user marked “usn a-e” and a Williams socket engraved “****”. No ones gonna steal that guys sockets!

Nice. I was eye balling them but didn't pull the trigger. Would have bought only for the carb stuff. Glad to see the detailed pics.!

Some Plomb bits that rose to the top of a greasy neglected "box with contents" that I dragged home yesterday off of OfferUp.

These arrived in the mail today. 4 issues of a bi monthly mailer Proto was sending to their suppliers. eBay only listed 1 mailer but I saw 2... when it arrived there were 4 in the envelope. 2 of them have the envelope stuck to the cover but I think I can probably steam them off?

Well damn Smoke! That is a serious wad of neat and clean original advertising. Ed.

Thanks Ed! The pictures where pretty poor online but I figured I would take a chance and it paid off! I wasn’t aware that something like this even existed outside of regular tool catalogs! Each page is a standard 8.5x11 piece of paper so you can see how big they are. Each is probably 10 pages

That's a great acquisition, Smoke!

GJ member tin medic owns a few issues. I used H-4975, Sep-Oct 1949, Vol. 3, No. 5, fairly extensively in my "Lawsuit Tools" argument, and included some excerpts in that thread, linked here (and scroll down to post #5). That issue was dedicated to the trademark conversion campaign that Plomb was in the midst of, making sure that their hardware stores and other retail outlets were replacing 'Plomb' signage with the 'Proto Tools by Plomb' signage they had shipped out.

Please cite the publication number, dates, volume, and issue number of the flyers you bought.

Thanks lugz! I really like this kind of documentation and the fact that they are in the Proto envelopes really sealed it for me! I purchased

Nov-Dec of ‘51

Jan-feb of ‘52

March-April of ‘52

May-June of ‘52

I had to get creative to see those dates as 2 of the envelopes are stuck to the publications

Thanks. That's an interesting period. If it's not too much trouble, though, what are the publication numbers (should be something like XX51, XX52), and Volume and Issue No. for those, if they have them?
