Today's junk store find:

PL∇MB 344 Compact Hacksaw.

Hadn't run into one of these "in the wild" before.

(The catalog cut attached is the from 1942 19A catalog (pg 80)

I hit the plomb jackpot today on Craigslist of all places. And the guy lived just up the street! :rocker:

- A complete set of 19 1/2” drive sockets including all the **/32” pieces. 13 of 19 are L.A.
- Plomb Los Angeles 5460, 5463, 5467, 5480, and 5485 drive tools. All 1937.
- Los Angeles 5475, 5476, and 5477 universal sockets
- LA 5348 deep
- 1127 dbe
- And a giant 1066 dbe. Definitely the largest piece-o-plomb I’ve ever held.

Very Nice! Almost unheard of to find a mostly complete LA set. I am still on the look out for 1068 DBE to finish out my set.

Looking for a Round Beam Plomb 1068 Double Box End Wrench

Dan, that’s a great Plomb haul. Looks like it’s most of a 1937 set. I’m pretty much sticking to eBay purchases. A couple of cool Plomb items came in the mail today.
I watched this early 3/8” drive non reversing ratchet with captive plug for a couple of weeks and finally bid the minimum and was surprised that I won.

The next item went for quite a bit more than the minimum bid but it covered the postwar period that I didn’t have. I apologize if I upbid any GJ members. It must have been destiny because it came with three extra sockets, a Thorsen, a Walden and an S-K.:)It seems to be missing a chrome Pebble ratchet, a sliding Tee and a 5/16” socket.

I went through my Plomb tools and found a suitable chrome sliding Tee for the set. Now I’m looking for a nice shiny Mfd. USA 1/4” pebble ratchet. My dark finish Mfd. USA spare isn’t going to cut it. Outlaw, I gave the spinner the sniff test and it had no noticeable odor, unlike my Xcelite stinkdrivers.

If anyone needs this I have no use for it, for a few bucks and cost of shipping it's yours.

Found this 9/16" drive ancient socket. The hex is also for a modern 9/16" bolt.

I think I'm officially getting good at spotting random tools and have about a 30-40% success rate at saying something is Plomb-empire and being correct. This was dirty and in a pile of rubble. I couldn't actually see the plomb markings for about 30 seconds of rubbing but I had a good feeling.

The square end is perfectly 9/16, and the milling/grinding that doesn't appear on these tools as seen on AA seems to have taken place after the stamping.
If I were to guess I'd say they got it stamped and for some reason it didn't fit 9/16 female ends, so after it was already stamped with ID markings, they took it to a grinder.

IMO you can tell the difference between factory grindings and owner grindings. :dunno:

Super stoked as both of them are dual marked...they dont help with my dual marked standard length combo board but help with the other dual marked wrench sets! 1208L combo which is a 1/4....i dont think many of these were purchased to begin with and those that were probably didnt last since they are so small...Also got the dual marked dbe #1140

I picked up this club (see Pic 1) at the flea market this morning. It's a smooth 1242 combo (1-5/16" openings) with a "DC" date code (see Pic 2) and a nice little surprise (see Pic 3) on the flip side. :)

Ok guys, I need your help- if you have a tool mobile and have not posted a picture in the proto thread, please post it here! I need to see a picture of the full side of it and the front of it ? I am compiling some research thanks to Lugz and his question :)

Also- I believe this is a shot of Old Man Taylors logo on the side of his tool mobile ? Can he confirm that ? Also , this paint looks wrinkle finish , not gloss ?

Has anyone been able to pin down when Plomb was using the "L.A. CAL." markings on their tools? Alloy Artifacts ballparks the date on these at "ca. Early to Mid 1920s", but can it be nailed down any more specifically than that? Do any of the 1920s Plomb catalogs show the "L.A. CAL." markings on tools?

Finally took the time to shoot a few photos of the WF socket sets after receipt of the WF-126 and WF-45 sockets sent to me by Catfishdan! The 1/2" set is nearing complete and still missing 46, 131 and 136 sockets. 3/8" set is also getting closer missing only 120, 121 and 122 and also including a shot of the mostly complete 9/32, 1/4" set. Dan, thanks again!

Those must be 9/32” drive WF6 locking spinners. I don’t think Plomb made those in 1/4” drive but Walden and Williams did.

It was pre 1928 for sure as I haven't seen one with a date code yet and that was the earliest date code I have found. I have a few items with that stamping that I have only found them in the No 5 catalog that doesn't have a copywrite date but most place it around 1925 plus or minus a year. I may have an example that will show how early they have went. Let me get some pictures this weekend.
