Well, that is a box of gold right there!
that’d be me LOLAwesome! Glad you scored!! Wonder who all is checking daily for them now? : )
I have that same set, complete I believe. I wonder who it is thats paying big money for stuff lately.. that H3 hammer went for 268! Makes me wonder.. what would a full set of Plomb body hammers, or full set of Paschall ball peins go for. Here is i think the same set I've had for awhile. The bits can be changed and are held in with a small set screw
Ha ha, me toothat’d be me LOL

Yes absolutely on the old craftsman stuff. A series of YouTube videos drive prices up but also due to the pandemic I think folks also had lots of time to sit and ponder what makes them happier and in turn some guys wanted to purchase tools. There were no swap meets going on for a while and that increased eBay sales as well. But now that things are moving again, I think the market will adjust to a more reasonable level? It’s all about what floats your boat isn’t it? Sometimes the prices irritate me but I do most of my purchases through local sales/swaps and fellow collectors. But I sure wouldn’t be above cashing in on the current market if I found something valuable. 2 summers ago I sold one of those craftsman spinner ratchets for a good profit so I could put them on towards things I wanted moreWell, this stuff is always trendy. For a while it seemed like old craftsman stuff was super high. It's still pricey but the stuff is just sitting on ebay.
Is it the same seller? Meaning, so it didn't actually sell, and it's being re-listed? Or is it a different seller, implying someone bought it and is immediately trying to sell it for more?...just looked at the pics of the one that just sold, it's the same one.....
Thanks.Same box different seller
Thanks for the details. So the second guy bought it just to immediately put it back on eBay for what he hopes will yield more than what he bought it for?! Am I missing something? Or did I wake up in Even Crazier Town?the 5287a Plomb box that sold on Sunday Jan 15 for $330.00 was sold by ebay seller gktrade56 from San Diego, California
the 5287a Plomb box currently listed at $330.00 with 12 bids is being sold by ebay seller steven67r from Inola, Oklahoma
I am, although I sell more of it than I keep. Even if I wasn't, though, I can see the attraction of that little set regardless of the brand. What's not to like? Small wooden box. Woodburned marking alluding to an antique hardware standard. Small dark handsome interchangeable bits. I've been jealous of @RagTopTA's for those reasons for a long time.I'm not a Plomb collector, so I don't understand the attraction to that particular item myself.

In the immortal wake up call of Adrian Cronauer, "GOOD MORNING CRAZIER TOWN!!"Thanks for the details. So the second guy bought it just to immediately put it back on eBay for what he hopes will yield more than what he bought it for?! Am I missing something? Or did I wake up in Even Crazier Town?
Hi Jock. I'll bet a few of us have done that before, but man, there wasn't much in that original auction.....of course that's just my opinion...it DOES look like the 5/8 cap screw socket is missing from the new auction.I didn't do the research, but perhaps the OK buyer saw something in the original sale that he wanted/needed. He bid to get the lot, intending the take what he wanted and replace it with extras from his collection and "flip" that. In essence, he would be buying the lot for one (or a few) item(s), expecting that he might not make back the original purchase cost, but offset much, or most of the cost of the desired item(s).

Thanks.

Nice finds at the sale! I like that early adapter. I wish I would have known you needed a 1/4 drive speeder. I have a couple in my spares bin and would have sent you one. I still owe you for a few plomb/proto pieces you have sent me.I’m sure that there a more than a few pebble collectors out there.
I found some Plomb tools at an estate sale this morning in San Leandro, CA
I believe that the 3/8” to 1/2 adapter is from 1931. The punch is from 1937. The socket is 8 point.
This 1/4” drive speeder came from an eBay seller today.

These are cool but the pieces I really hate you for are the transitional logo ratchet repair boxesI looked back and I can only go to 2021 on my purchases... I dont know what I paid for my cap screw socket set... I wonder what a whole set would go for! Heres some wood and cardboard box stuff for good measure.. along with the Tenure pins : )
That was one of my best finds! And one of my best reveals... I think it took 2 days and kept Lugz in suspense!Nice finds at the sale! I like that early adapter. These are cool but the pieces I really hate you for are the transitional logo ratchet repair boxes. As you know I really like the old cardboard boxes. I’m running up a good amount of Proto la and sooner or later will find some plomb
This horse is probably dead, and I've already spent more time on someone else's business than i should feel comfortable with,...but I'm gonna beat it a little bit more just in case.....That is a 20% official Ebay for Charity listing......20% of the sale price goes to their specific charity....now they don't charge you their sales fee on the percentage that goes to charity....but still. 20%!Let's throw a little math at what Lugz was alluding to...
The winning bid of the first auction was $330, but let's not forget those pesky add-ons of sales tax and shipping. The winner lives in Inola, OK which has a combined state and local tax of 9.33%. I don't know for sure if he has to pay the local tax for items purchased on the internet, but we're going with worst case. Shipping was $8.55--again, I don't know if ebay will hit him for tax on the shipping but let's cut him some slack on that small sum.
330+30.79+8.55=$369.34
The winner then turns around and relists the item in the auction format.
For their services, ebay charges 12.53505% on the "Total Sales Price." TSP equals the Sales Price plus the Shipping charge plus, incredibly, even on the tax the buyer pays--and then adds 30 cents on top of that total. For this exercise we'll assume an arbitrary 8% sales tax paid by the winning buyer.
According to my calculations, just to BREAK EVEN and recover his $369.34 investment, he will need to sell his item for $428.30!
His total cost equals his investment plus ebay's fee on the TSP plus shipping--we'll ignore packaging, gas, time, etc.
369.34+58.97+5.50=$433.81
If the winning bid is 428.30 plus a 5.50 shipping charge, 428.30+5.50=433.80. Ooops, looks like he's still a penny in the hole--and of course, that does not include the unknown cost of the nine (9) Plomb items he is including in the sale.
Buying something on ebay to resell on ebay is almost always a losing proposition--except for ebay.
Good luck to him. He's going to need it.
Although I remain in an opportunistic posture (ready to pounce on a rare bargain), I have avoided the wooden box craze so far and to each their own as far as how one values collection additions. I've probably made as many bad investment decisions on tools as I have good, but for me it comes down to what makes me happy and how to make up a good story to tell the wife if she happens to see how much I've spent! 20%!
Yup, it was a really good cliff hanger! And I agree it’s probably one of your best finds. And in the wild no lessThat was one of my best finds! And one of my best reveals... I think it took 2 days and kept Lugz in suspense!

No. 344 hacksaw. I was hoping to have a blade for it laying around, but it’s probably 2” shorter than a standard blade.
Well don’t you just **** for finding that big adjustableAfter cleaning these recent finds a little bit, I realized daylight was quickly fading. Had to adjust the photos to vivid to brighten them some.

My handle doesn’t show any signs of being home brew but I suppose anything is possible. That more modern 344 I have on my Proto la tool board and it’s quite a bit more low clearance than the Plomb versions. I would call the Plomb version a mid clearanceGoogle image search shows the wood handle is correct. There is also a smaller metal version shown. I like your handle more though.
This is bs, I’m already trying to put together a set of combos and does in dual mark formJust a thought but, I would like to put together a war finish set and a dual marked set : ) Only like 2,643 pieces to go!
