Yesterday I finally swapped the water pump on my dodge Durango. Lost my 3/8" 10mm. Looked everywhere. I had mistakenly put it in the spot for my 13mm. I found it when I started putting everything back.
what happened to the 13 then 😧

I know more than a few machinists who started up mills or drill presses with the chuck key still in it. They should be orange as well.

Were they wearing a necktie?

Wrench storage. You know, I seem to remember both SK and Blackhawk selling wrench sets, ratcheting?, well-fitted in little boxes...plastic and steel respectively. Pretty slick.

Wait...here we go.

I use the rolls for my field stuff, my partner uses those little metal racks with a bungee cord to hold them in place. There’s an electrician that we work with who keeps his wrenches in pieces of cpvc conduit with slip caps.

The best I’ve ever seen are the little metal clips that hold them stacked, kind of hard to find though.

After seeing kind of hard to find, I probably shouldn't ask if you have a picture

I assume you do not mean something like this

Exactly like that. I just ordered one myself, thanks for the link.

Back in the days of yore, damn near every parts store wrench set came with a little clip that held them all together, but these have gone the way of the dodo in favor of giant plastic things. Somewhere around here is a Blackhawk open end set that still have their original clip.

I like the size and form factor. I assume that those really do need six wrenches so it would be a problem if I tried to drop in five. And if I had two different sets of 11 I would end up needing 4...

Looks to me like you could just put in a piece of a stir stick and shim it up to take fewer wrenches.

You could use this as an excuse to buy sets of double open and double box…..6 take the space of 12.

The final picture is a Craftsman set available at Lowes. This is a sat that stays on my truck. I’ve had a set of these for several years now and after thousands and thousands of miles of rough rural roads I’ve never had a wrench come out of the holder.
If you're in the market for combination wrenches and want an awesome mobile case for them, the V-series set at Lowes is the answer. They're WAY cheaper right now than they should be. They're essentially Facom/USAG professional wrenches.

These are real popular with mechanics in the mining industry. We call them benita clips. It looks like you can get them off amazon, we buy them by the pallet load at work. https://www.amazon.com/Ceiling-Hang...ne-Install/dp/B0D8122278?tag=atomicindus08-20 I've even just used a piece of stainless tie wire to keep things organized.

I personally only carry 7 wrenches in my tool bag at work, they are the main sizes we see. It's easy enough the grab the right size when you only have 7 to pick from. If I don't have the right size I also carry a pair of knipex, a wide mouth 8" adjustable, and an F wrench. Tools are heavy and as I get older I prefer to have a lighter tool bag, there's no reason to carry a wrench size I might use once or twice a year every day. My angle wrenches are in rolls divided by standard and metric. I'll usually grab a roll of angle wrenches since they are light and drag them out into the field if I know I need a wrench not in my bag.

This KTC clip showed up today, I’ve got 5 more on order now. I’ve got from 1/4ā€ up to 15/16ā€ in it, and old Macs aren’t exactly svelte.

These things are the answer to my prayers.
