ALL: our Cleo(patra) came to us as a rescue as a 4+ year old with a different name. since she has big time TORTA-TUDE cause my wife like tortoise shell calico cats i thought of the QUEEN'S name CLEOPATRA, but mostly I just yell for CAT cause she doesn't come to any name that I mention unless she's hungry.
she's doing a lousy job keeping the raccoons out of my yard, but rabbits, rats, and mice are nowhere in site. we've been trying to tell her to let the birds go, but she's so quick i bet she could catch a hummingbird.

she needs to do a better job on killing the crows and running off the raccoons that are tearing up my front yard.

cheers all and enjoy your weekend.

Edit: Sorry for hijacking the thread.

I think that's skunk damage. They're after Japanese beetle larvae (grubs). The grubs eat the roots of the sod, which makes it easy for the skunks to roll it up like a carpet and chow down. It's a big problem at the golf course I volunteer at. We treat the greens and fairways, but it's just too expensive to treat all the rough. When guys get ambitious, they'll go out of a night and shoot a few, but that really doesn't make a dent.

ALL: I'm almost 100% it's raccoons tearing up my yard. I live in the city and i've got a neighbor's front door maybe every 50 or 60 feet so not a ton of wild critters around here. I do live close to a 700 acre park though, but it's next to the water so not many or any thing bigger than a coyote coming out of there. in the 30+ years i've lived here I have never seen a wild hog or skunk, but we do have raccoons, possums, coyotes, foxes, eagles, hawks, plenty of crows and seagulls and I saw a baby wild ferret along with plenty of rabbits, rats and mice.

it's a good environment for nature and just wish they'd leave my lawn alone.

we got tired of the local store being out of the only brand and type of wet food our cat eats so we ordered it online and the big box was delivered a couple days later.

anybody make their own cat food? do tell?

Scott & ALL: Game camera has been discussed before and since i'm not a hunter anybody have a favorite. i'm all for getting a quality one at a good price even if the raccoon or CUBALABRA or whatever is damaging my lawn cause it might be interesting to see what our cat (CLEO) does outside all day.

thanks in advance for PM'S or posts and links to the best game camera at a good price.

back to our furry friends the ones that will rule the world some day.

cheers

My vote is a big foot.

EDIT: Amazon has a wide variety of game cameras. Read reviews and go from there. Need to decide if you want video or just stills. But since you are at your house, I would also add some IR flood lights to enhance the video.

They must be crack shots to get grubs, especially at night. Hopefully someone does the game camera thing and posts a video here because it would be cool to see grubs in the wild.

ALL: I haven't started my GOOGLING and searching for a game camera so if any of you have a favorite quality one to mention with a link all the better.

speaking of GAME CAMERA the 2 legged ones tend to come on my property at times and i'd really like to know who they are so maybe a full on security camera system would be nice. anybody have a favorite?

i'm sort of tech savvey (sp?) and would love to maybe see around and in my house from my cell phone, but not sure if that gives the hackers more access to me. anybody have a good system?

so back to CAT TALK::

Cleo wanted to HELP (in her way) us do a puzzle when our power went out for 15 hours last weekend. SO my bride made her a cozy bed with about 5 blankets and towels on our dining table we rarely eat at that she's been sleeping on all week now.

also somebody wanted to know what brand of cat food Cleo eats and our picky rescue cat only liked the Tuna (we tried almost all the flavors cause store gives out a few samples) and now she likes the Chicken too. not cheap, but we don't do very many visits to the Vet to maybe make up for the cost of her food.

fat and happy cat that terrorizes the small critters in our neighborhood and has a home almost anywhere she stops to sit.

for some of you that don't get to see a 14,000 mountain on clear days I went to see another GJ member that is an hour from me and he lives about an hour from this one (Mt. Rainier).

have a great weekend with your furry friends.

I have other pics here of our Tortoiseshell kitty. I'm starting to think she's a box cat. She is just over one and a half years old. She claims every box for herself. If you mess with her, you get this....

Hey pal! Who do you think you're messin with?
She is also sporting her new collar.

Thanks Drives, IDK, My one vet said Fancy Feast "was the best"
Some places on line said it was less than the best, (not good at all IIRC)
My other vet said, "Any of those canned foods"
So I don't know.
I can Say, My Cleopatra got double the energy after I took her off dry food,
and put her on wet food only.I was giving her dry only, as I didn't know better.

And she was 6 0r 7 years old at the time.
Se is 10 Now!
I noticed this morning, hadn't noticed so much before,
but see how the white patch going down to her nose, is almost centered perfect on her face.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh, Shes Pretty!!!
Thanks.

We leave hard food out for her through the day. In the evening, she gets soft/wet food. At just over 1.5 years old, is there any problems with this? She seems to be regular and not have any potty problems.

With all the tortie cats being shown, I thought I would post up a picture of my tortie cat named Mercedes. We adopted two cats back in 2010, and she was one, and Sarge, my black cat, and best buddy, is the other.

We named her that because when we got her as a kitten, one of her hind legs had been broken, and they put a titanium pin in it to help it heal. It was expensive, and the vet did it before we adopted her, so we did not have to pay for it. But because it was a lot of money, the name Mercedes seemed to fit.

And I can also verify that torties love to be in boxes, bags, or any other object that has any type of space in it. Literally any open object is something she thinks she can can stuff their body into!

Jim

Here's our cat. His name is Mickey. We originally named him Missy but the vet advised us that we guessed wrong. Got him as a 2 week kitten from the local saw mill where I had taken some walnut to get milled. He regularly disciplines the dog, ensures the local wildlife don't get too close, and pukes up his food every two weeks. He sure was fascinated by the wild turkeys (note he is at the bottom of the picture trying to slink up on them), but as he got closer he quickly thought better of the idea and fled back to the house.

ALL: someone was asking about feeding his cat and thought i'd chime in. when ours is awake (I heard cats sleep up to 20 hours per day) and inside she'd usually hungry.

we give her about a can of wet food every day and maybe a 1/3 at 6am, 1/3 at noon and another 1/3 at around 5pm. she usually sniffs at it and runs outside and when she comes back in she eats it. if she's outside for more than a half hour we seal it up in a sort of tupperware where the dish and food is covered and put it in the fridge. we also give her about a cup of dry food everyday and that stays out for her to nibble on throughout the day. since we got the chicken flavor of this brand of cat food she tends to eat it when we put it out for her instead of sniffing and running.

CLEO will lay on any towel I put down for her especially if it's a big beach towel and she also loves a box or laying on the heater vent or next to our electric radiator type heater. she never lays on my lap, but will always lay on my wife's lap if she has a blanket on her. maybe cause my bride puts her blanket on a pillow for Cleo to lay on when she's at work like in the picture.

That's more than our cats (2) eat combined! (guess it depends what the size of the can is)

We divide a 5.5oz can 6 ways. They each get a 1/6th in the morning, and a 1/6th in the evening. During the day they free-feed on about a cup of dry food.

LX: our Cleo weighs in at 11.5 pounds and might eat your cute pair of kitties cause our daughter's 70 pound dog can be running at her and she doesn't move and he stops dead, but he still thinks it might work some day to scare her. we probably could keep it at a half or 3/4 can per day, but we like the birds too and if she's a little less hungry another bird or two that lands in our yard or within 2 blocks has a chance to live another day. i'm still trying to get her to get rid of moles, raccoons and crows so we'll see how that goes.

BD: yep these furry guys have us whipped and looking for a better challenge. once they figure out how to control the crows i think the humans are in for it.

ALL: another great day so do your best to enjoy it and serve your cat too

That wuz me. I wish our kitty would sleep a bit more. I doubt she sleeps 5 or 6 hours a day. It may be because she is young, just over 1.5 years old. Thanks for sharing your kitty meal plan. We've tried something similar in the past. She over eats and gets sick.

I don’t feed our cats wet food (treat) in the am, only a pm meal as we don’t want a cat “alarm clock”

We put a splash of water in with the wet to ensure they get enough to drink and minimize crystals/kidney issues

ALL: my bride showed me a picture online of this orange cat painting a tiger and it looked pretty cool. well she ordered it and it even looks cooler in our house now and Cleo is wondering what she can paint now while she's waiting for this one to get hung above the little bench I usually put a towel on so she can lay there. it's above a heat vent from our gas furnace.

love all the cat pics guys and there are a ton of us that seem to like tortoise shell calicoes maybe cause we like their TORTA-TUDE.

cheers

Oh, I thought a Racoon could hurt a cat?
Guess it depends on the cat?

That's my opinion. I think most times a raccoon is probably going to win, but I've seen my parents old cat chase big dogs, large whitetail bucks and they told me he once chased a Bobcat out of the yard.

I’m pretty sure we lost our outside cat to a raccoon a few years back. We have real vicious ones around here.
Yeah, They used to come on my porch before I closed it off.
Haven't seen them now, But they were looking in the trash, and getting in there.
But I haven't been putting trash with food scrapes in it. I worry a little about Cleo. I know she can be vicious too, but I think It depends on the Raccoons attitude too.

Re: Post your cat here

These are our current two little monsters: Kate and Pippa.
Littermates that we adopted from the rescue shelter. Energetic, smart, affectionate, adorable little cats. One of them is chasing a plastic spring around the house as I type, and will actually fetch and retrieve. When they are resting they generally twist themselves into the weirdest positions. And when they watch TV they like Jennifer Jones.

Bub & All: yep i'm pretty sure a hungry or angry raccoon could hurt my 11.5 pound Cleo, but I know she's acquainted with them cause I see the raccoons during the day at times when Cleo is out and about. Cleo has come home a few times with a small chunk missing that we need to clean up and watch, but thankfully she hasn't had to run to the emergency Vet yet. she's not afraid of my daughter's 70 pound very muscular dog or for that matter she's not afraid of me at 6'2 and 225 cause if i play with her out in the yard and forget to put on my gloves she ALWAYS DRAWS BLOOD. I need to borrow MB'S cougar or maybe he called it a mountain lion he had as a pet (or one like it probably to chase the raccoons away).

3bay: yep the cat picture is growing on me (us) and the main reason i haven't hung it yet is my wife saw a few smaller pictures of other stuff she kinda likes and wants to maybe hang a few more pictures around the cat picture.

ALL: Cleo used to wake us up at 6am to go out side to do her business, but since I wake up now around 4am she doesn't wake me, but she still sometimes scratches on the mirrors on our closets in our bedroom to wake up my bride.

great pics of kitties holding tools and watching TV and just being a cat sleeping or playing and keep posting them when you can. thanks in advance

Mine aren't garage cats......heck, you could hold the front door wide open and they'd complain about the draft you're letting in LOL. Ralph is the not Orange one, and the two orange ones are Colby (the smaller one) and Abner (the not so small one). Abner is short for Abnormal.....he's polydactyl on all 4 feet.:)
