Hi everyone.

I was in Princess Auto tonight and saw the 4-piece impact flip socket on sale for $8. This is the Pro-Point brand, coo Taiwan I believe and the quality is much better than the Power fist brand.

Anyways I realized the set has a luster/shine to it (not flat black) and seems to have been pained over. It does say CR-MO on it which is supposed to be impact grade... :dunno:
Is this real impact?

Thanks.

The finish is not what makes them impact sockets. If they're sold as impact sockets, they should be made to take the beating of an impact wrench.

It's $8 CAD.

Beat the tar out of them with a 1" impact and reducers so you can publish a video of the fail or we'll come looking for you.

They look identical to the ones that harbor freight sells..... package is different though. Just used mine today. They seem fine but I don't use them very often.

Thanks for reply guys.
I have read about cheap socket sets that are just painted over and labelled impact, so wanted to make sure it was the real deal.

The people making that claim are generally making wild assumptions with absolutely no knowledge of metallurgy. There may be some out there that are, but how would you know? Their "proof" is generally that the sockets in question are made of Cr-V, which proves nothing beyond their own ignorance.

I have had cheap impact sockets deform and bind to the anvil of the impact wrench. Had hell a time taking that off, so I'd say quality matters if you're intending to throw some high torque to it.

Ingersoll Rand has or had their brand Impact Sockets that had a shiny black finish.
