That’s a weirdo one for sure. Wondering if it was a specific use contract wrench? I don’t recall ever seeing that brand before.

That is interesting. I have never seen a proto with a four point open end before
Lots of people made them. Wright, Mac, Cornwell, Bonney, Herbrand, Blue Line come to immediate memory. I’m sure there were some others. Those are "V- Gullet" ends for hex bolts. They've been discussed before. I have them on a lot of my 60's and newer Bonney and BonECon wrenches. If I am not mistaken, Barcalo made some with v-gullets back in the 30's-50's????
I don’t think Barcalo made any but Bonney and Cornwell made plenty of them. Some others did too. Those are "V- Gullet" ends for hex bolts. They've been discussed before. Maybe Vanadium Tool Co?I wonder if they were the earliest to manufacture a "v-gullet"???

My money would be on Cornwell (1919), then Wright (20's), as RJ alluded to, but open end wrenches with hex milled throats are much older in the hand forged era. It's not a modern innovation so much as something that was common and then rarer in the drop-forged era.I wonder if they were the earliest to manufacture a "v-gullet"???

Well done! At least we know it’s part of the pti family
Nice Job! I guessed at Industrial Tools Manufacturing a few posts up. Nice to see the confirmation and the connection to PTI.I was looking through a 1967 Proto catalog for something else this morning and found this
Top chest never had a front face emblem. No holes or sign of any one ever being there. I have few other Proto la items that never had emblems either. Either they were in a hurry to crank em out or they ran out of emblems.Looks great, Smokeshow69! Time to get the emblem for the top box and fill them!
Nope, just a standard wrinkle finish color that matches the box colorIs the tray marked at all?
Agreed. I didn’t really notice those flat edges but way too many to be coincidental for sure! At one time I did own 2 of these and the other one was spray bombed but you could see the outline of the sticker wording of PROTO on it in that early 60’s script. This one appears to be the earlier emblem plate version
a trade could be on the table for your old chest this weekend, Smoke. Just putting that out there...Picture of both together. Ironically I also at one point had 2 mfd era top chests that are actually the more correct top box for this roller but I also traded them to other members on here. Hopefully I will find another some day.
Someone placed a summit sticker over the logo and when I saw another person start to peel it off, I saw the lettering sticking to the summit sticker.^ I would speculate that the shadow you saw of the "PROTO" lettering was probably burned through the original decal/sticker by UV light.
I see that occasionally when removing the stickers from the tops of lawnmower decks. Pretty much the same kind of thing: adhesive-backed vinyl or plastic decal affixed to a painted surface and then left to the mercy of the elements.
I was thinking because the one without the flying lady looks plainer, any thoughts?Because of the reg us pat office? Or the flying lady...
Thanks it’s not mint but darn close. I use my plomb version from time to time as well. Rest of the stuff is pretty good as well! I will sort through the best stuff and whatever I don’t need goes into the trade arsenalThere is some good stuff there! Nice find on the speed hinge handle!
Absolutely! That’s a really nice set!Does Challenger belong in here too?
This punch set is in excellent condition, but one is missing.
