I'm not a huge Proto collector, but I brought home this exceptionally clean military wrench - looking like water pump or general light service wrench to me, because I don't remember seeing one before in the wild. I could be wrong.

I picked up a very similar but slightly different sized one here recently and haven’t cleaned it up yet- AN-8505-17 marked
1-5/16 x 1-3/8
I haven’t researched the purpose yet either

Hydraulic fittings. Tight clearances and low torque.

I have a couple of these as well. I used the -13 to rebuild an ARO air-powered drum pump recently. It was thin enough to fit the flats on the piston.

Got my Proto finds from the swap meet last month all cleaned up. First up is the la era stuff and then some mfd era including a few pieces for my drive tools board.
Highlights include a not pictured puller in the yellow box, 3/4 drive impact with the rubber band cover, mfd metric dbe and puller set up!

Hacksaw- this isn’t marked but it’s a dead ringer for the outline on one of my la era boards. Anyone have one of these that is marked ?

First time poster after I kept seeing this site on my searches. Recently acquired tremendous blessing of a take what you want situation. Anyhow I'm trying to see if this could be a Proto tool box. Ideas? (Top box)IMG_20220711_091408.jpg

Av8rtrav, top box is Huot 101 deluxe tool chest.
Here is a link to the catalog from 1956; look at page 10

Looks good - clean up and post more pictures! I think that the front panel is either hidden the way you closed the top compartment or missing.
Will do after vacation. Yeah top is folded under. There are no markings anywhere as to brand. I need to get the drawers removed somehow, they are really difficult to open and close. Some day I'll restore it. 1941 Delta DP220 bench drill press is first in line though.

Just got my first Proto tools. Picked them up over the weekend for $1.50 each. Thanks to everyone here, I'm now obsessed with finding quality vintage tools. :cool:20220807_100335.jpg

And so it begins! You have discovered the thrill of the hunt and that buying used vintage tools saves you money and the product is much better made than today’s tools for the most part. Glad you are here. Keep sharing and posting

Thank you. I originally came to GJ looking for shop organization ideas, now I'm here everyday.

All the handles are present, all the friction sliders are intact and well functioning and it's the smoothest rolling box I now own. I have to set the foot brake or it slowly starts to roll away. The mats are OEM Proto and super thick. Even has the original key.
The 1978 KRA429B Snap-On middie came with the purchase.

I've seen a lot of Waterloo made Proto tool boxes, but this is the first time I have run across an aviation type rear storage model. I waited this one out on OfferUp until he lowered it twice, it had been sitting almost 2 weeks so I started very low and he took my first offer. @Smokeshow69 would love if you broke out a 1979 Proto catalog to see if you can find this one. I cannot find a date on it so far, but my other box with the same exact handles is dated 1979.

Oldtuleguy you are right! Taco cart! Anyone who's been near downtown LA knows the reference. I think Snap-On was first with those.

Ohhh, this is a really good one! Nice find not often seen. I don’t possess a ‘79 catalog unfortunately. Maybe Bmwrd0 has one? I would buy one if I found one in the wild but latest I have is ‘63 at the moment.

It does not show up in the '78 catalog, which is the newest I have.

But, I have been looking for a version of that box for years now, and I know MBC, and Snap-on (Kr396) both have sold similar ones. This does, however, have a lot of similarity with my early eighties Cornwell 26" roller, which was made by Waterloo, I believe.

@bmwrd0 thank you for checking your Proto catalog. I'm curious, in that 1978 catalog did Proto still have the rounded chrome handles or the handles with the Proto name on them? I'm trying to date when that started because I so rarely run across the boxes with the Proto name handles. My other Proto top box I've shown previously has the same handles and is dated 1979.

I'm sure Waterloo made your Cornwell box and during that time also made Mac Tools and obviously Craftsman and Proto.

This is my Cornwell with the same type Proto handles. Mac had the same thing.

Friction slider clips are all interchangeable on those Cornwell/Mac/Proto boxes except Craftsman specified a different type.
