Is everyone "bothering" to send the old ones back?
I'm thinking an "extinguisher demonstration" is in order.

I have not seen anywhere where the extinguisher needs to be full. I was thinking of the same thing. I have a 9 yr old daughter and a 5 yr old son. Perfect way to teach them how to use an extinguisher.

Number two of two just got here today. I'm very satisfied with how they handled the recall. Amusingly, FedEx seemed to know why I was requesting a pick up before I told them. The girl said that they had been getting a lot of fire extinguishers.

Just got two replacement fire extinguishers from Kidde.

Thing is, I only requested one. Early Christmas?

Kidde has had metal valve assemblies for several years. Different threads than the plastic valves. However, the failure to hold pressure is still too high for me to accept the responsibility. I recently did recharge some metal valve Kidde extinguishers. The leakage rate was 20%. I am not going to rely on fire equipment that has a 20% failure rate. You bring me a Kidde for recharge, I will refuse to do so.

And I do not like Kidde smoke alarms.

I am not sure, but I think UTC is a European company

And do not tip the extinguisher upside down and beat on it with a hammer.

Well I had 3 recalled, 2 different models. Got 2 first of the week and came home to find 5 more on my doorstep. I called and they said to call Fedex to pick them up. Don't know if Fedex will pick up without an order.

FedEx dropped my 3 replacements right before X-Mas. I repacked the old ones and called FedEx for pickup today.

The FedEx IVR system was being a pita till I got a human - then Grace took great care of me. 3 boxes being picked up tomorrow!

Mine were bought in 1996/7 when we bought the house. Kidde get's my business going forward when at all possible based on how they are handling this recall.

Cheers

Don’t do it! Buy a quality fire extinguisher for a few dollars more like Amerex.

Last two of five showed up today.

I'll pack the old ones up and call FedEx tomorrow.

Received the 2nd of two recalled. Only sent one back as the first was sent about 3 wks apart and box was tossed with Xmas stuff. Surely surprised by the excellent customer service. I will be buying another, from Walter Kidde & Co.

I received my replacement unit today. Called Fedex to schedule a pickup and had to talk to a woman in a third world country with broken english. I think they will be picking it up tomorrow.

Never got an email or any response from Kiddie, but the 3 new 5lb units came Fedex Ground this morning. Results are all that matter!

24 days total.

EDIT
So today, I submitted 3 small 10BC units that were also in the shop, and were
replaced with the 5lb units back in 2010 on suggestion from the code dept that
larger units would serve the shop space better.
We'll see what happens turn around wise with these.

Also, FWIW, I've received 1 of the 3 I requested replacements for on 11/2. I got the same size as what I had, as opposed to what a couple others here mentioned.

Figured I would update my experience so far. It is now 2 months since I submitted 3 extinguishers for recall I received 1 replacement about a month after that. Nothing since, so I called today. "They can not track requests" and have no idea where things stand. Obviously I'm not impressed and Kidde won't get any further business from me.

We had twenty, in early November (I think).

Said they should ship in two weeks.

Nothing to date.... we’re going south for a couple months, and UPS isn’t going to walk down our unplowed drive, as the drivers don’t have snowshoes.

We’all see how this develops.

Have gotten 2 of the 3. First one I called for pickup, what a pain. Second pick up I did on line took 3 minutes.

Gotten all mine. Note - the return is FedEx Ground only. I took these out to the FedEx dropoff at the airport and they refused to accept, said I had to find a Ground drop off point. The FedEx Ground facility here looks like a prison on the outside - controlled gates, high fence, razor wire, etc with no customer entry so I had to either chase down a truck or drop off at another facility. Could also call for a pickup but sometimes Ground here takes days to get a Round Tuit.

I put in 7 claims back in October, 2 weeks ago Fed Ex dropped off 2, they were both the same, so I boxed up 1 return. A few days later, 2 more show up, both the same, so I boxed up 1 return. The third delivery was the same. I called the Kidde hotline, told them I was going to have to return 3 and was told to go ahead and keep the 3 wrong ones. Okay, so that was a few weeks back, I've sent back the bad ones and now everything has stopped, WTF? I appreciate the freebies but really would like to replace the larger extinguishers too. Guess I'll wait and see what happens.

Found one still in the box, but the model FA 110 G (red) is not included, from the sticker on it it was purchased at Costco when they still entered the item # manually, rather then scanning the UPC.

Re: PSA: Kidde recalling all plastic handled fire extinguishers

You may go through powder coated cylinder with brass valve. As per as I know Kidde Pro 210 Rechargeable Extinguisher is one of the good one.

I received my two new units from Kidde on 1/4/18 as well. I did however receive an email a month ago that said they were backlogged with requests for new units, and that it might take a few months to get to my replacement order.

But it only took just shy of a month, so that was nice.

I packed up my old ones in the new units boxes, and called FedEx to come and get them on Monday (1/8/18). I also had a third world person on the phone, and I was sure he messed my address up because I could barely understand him when I asked him to repeat my address back to me.

The next morning I looked outside by my front door and the boxes were gone. So I went onto FedEx's website on Tuesday (1/9/18) and put in the two tracking numbers from the return labels, and sure enough they had both been picked up and were scanned into their system.

So I will check in a few days to see if they get delivered to where ever they were going.

I have 2 so far. Entered one of them, and then was trying to enter another, and bam, it submitted the one instead. Now I can't enter the 2nd one. Arrgghh. WIll try again tomorrow.

OK, I cleared my cookies, did a clear cache reload, and successfully entered the SN's.
Replacements should ship within 10-15 business days from your submission. Please retain your existing fire extinguisher unit until your replacement has been received.

Definitely happy to get new replacements.

I checked-I sent my father in law's 12 days ago. Replacement came yesterday. Boxed the old one up, called for pickup. Gone just after noon on the 11th.

Thanks to all for passing on the information!

He has 3 other extinguishers (non-Kidde) that need some attention, possible replacement...start on that next week..

Rec'd mine today.
Very quick turn-around now in the new year. Mfg date on mine is 2018 even. They must relly be cranking them out.

Started mounting them on the walls right now. Hopefully I can finish that up today.

Update: I called Inmar today, 3 months since I submitted 3 extinguishers for recall. “Their engineers haven’t responded to requests for a date when they will get caught up on recalled extinguishers. So they still have no idea.

I asked if they would be able to figure it out if I filed a suit against them – pregnant pause. I asked if there was anyone there who could answer that question. I was transferred to Kidde’s “Customer Service” line – they did not pick up after a while.

I had one replaced under the recall. I read all the info off the old one including model number and other numbers they required. The one that I had was red in color and when they sent a replacement out, that one was a marine extinguisher in white. I called them back many times and said this was unacceptable as it goes on a white wall and is hard to see. After the last phone call (many) they told me the one that they replaced (the one that I read all the numbers off of) was not in the recall. I said then why did you replace it? All I got was the run-a-round and a lot of time on hold! jim

It seems they were replacing most anything originally. We got our batch of ten with no issues, and that included a white one we keep near the wood stove.

I found two more recently, and asked about them while on the phone to verify that we aren’t required to return the defective units.

This time they requested date codes, along with model and serial numbers. They refused both, and stated that there is a 12 year cutoff for the recall. This is a new requirement, as several of the units they replaced originally were older than that.

I suspect the request to return old extinguishes was to establish a database as to how many were actually defective. In doing this, they found that there were many really old extinguishers being returned that were past the original design life, so they added an age cap.

I’m not too upset about the age limit, and would’t Be upset if the color didn’t match, considering the retail price these things go for.

It never hurts to have an extra fire extinguisher around, as long as it’s reliable.

I had mine replaced last month and one was from the 70's. They did send call tags and boxes to send the others back.

Got 5 replaced this week and returned the old ones in the same box as instructions stated.

I do have 2 white RV style and the RV manufacture says they are recalled and Kidde says there not. Got two letters from the RV manufacturer.

I got my replacement some months ago and tried to return the original but it didn't fit in the replacement's box for return.
I called the recall center and they told me to go find a box to return it in.
I informed the person that I would not and for Kidde to call me back to explain why they are half *** in the recall process. Now going 4 months with no callback.

I had two that where recalled,
filled the form on line.
Received 3 in the mail :headscrat

finally returned the two I had a couple weeks ago.

Too bad there wasn't a recall on all the Halon Kiddies I had that leaked out over the years without ever being used.
