I checked the list of models that were under recall. My FA 110 G was on the list. I went through the steps and it said it was an unaffected model. :headscrat

Just called Kidde since it been exactly a month since I called for replacements. I was told it was taking longer than expected to fill the orders, 25 business days+.Told to call back on the 15th if I have not received them.

I submitted claims for 4 recalled extinguishers I have and 3 weeks ago. I received 1 extinguisher about 2 weeks ago. I called the claim number and sat on hold for 27 minutes. At that point the project I was working on was over and I hung up.

Imagine the number of recalled units out there, this goes back a very long time. I don't think they anticipated the volume of recalls they were going to have to do. They probably were using existing stock, but ran out and now have to manufacture millions.

I just received a letter from Kidde yesterday saying that a unit they had supplied to me during a 2015 recall is now being recalled.

I received my replacement today. FedEx dropped it off in the morning, then late in the afternoon FedEx came back and said they need to re scan the package. Problem was I already had the package ready to return the old extinguisher. I had already covered the label with the return label. After a phone call, they said they would just take the return package, so I didn't need to setup a return pickup. It was fine with me.

I got one of my replacements last week,
and two more yesterday.

Funny I thought I was only getting 2 total

Trying to figure out what happened :dunno:

Surely their company must have had an insurance policy to cover needed recalls?

I submitted two on 11.3 and haven't gotten any back yet.

Been gone for a few days. I was going to leave this a sticky till the end of November, which has come and gone. I've unstuck it but now wondering if I should stick it again till the end of the year ?

What are your thoughts ladies and gentlemen ?

I haven't gotten my replacements yet, but I think the thread has served its purpose in spreading the word about the recall. If people haven't seen it by now, they're probably looking right over the stickies anyway.

Well as the OP of this thread, you make a great point.

I saw the original thread before it was a sticky. But only because I had recently had the Kidde name and fire extinguishers on my mind did I even think to check the thread. That and the thread happened to be on the relative top of the page when I happened to look on the forum.

Please keep it a Sticky until the end of the year. IMHO.

(btw, I entered my recall info the night or two after seeing this thread. Still waiting for replacements. I think I had 5 or 6 items that came up on the recall list.)

Suggest you keep as a sticky to the end of the year. It is a life saving issue and it is easy to submit a claim. People need to know that 20 -30 days to get a new extinguisher is not happening.

It is a safety issue and the are millions of the extinguishers out there. Sticky.

Also, FWIW, I've received 1 of the 3 I requested replacements for on 11/2. I got the same size as what I had, as opposed to what a couple others here mentioned.

I also vote for keeping it as a sticky at least through the end of the year as it's a safety issue.

Mine arrived yesterday. It’s twice the size of the one I’m replacing.

Well as the OP of this thread, you make a great point.

In this situation I'd say that OP status doesn't grant me a special vote, as it isn't my recall. I just happened to have posted about it first. And there seem to be many persuasive arguments for stickiness.

I haven't gotten my replacements yet...

As for this, it turns out that I spoke too soon, and my replacements came moments after that post. I had two 5.5lb 3A:40BC extinguishers recalled (the 1A:10BC extinguishers I had were not recalled), and they were replaced with equivalent 5.5lb 3A:40BC models. Perhaps an inch taller, but for the most part, pretty much the same size.

My recalled units had plastic valves, plastic handles and plastic pins. The replacements have aluminum valve bodies, and steel handles with a steel pin, plus no plastic attachment between the hose and the valve any more, and packaging that says they have a 10 year warranty. A nice upgrade I'd say. I did have to remove the old plastic wall brackets and replace with the supplied steel ones.

Wasn't really giving you a special vote, just stating that you made a very good point. I wanted to hear from a few others too.

I'll go ahead and re-sticky it till the end of the year. We'll just play it by ear after that.

Or more than likely, they'll go **** up due to not realizing the size of this recall, and every Tom, ****, and Susan scouring the countryside for units to have warrantied.

Got mine today, sent info 11/5. Fedex will pick up return tomorrow.

The replacement has a metal valve & wall bracket, much nicer unit.

I submitted my requests around 11/8 and received 2 of my 4 replacement units this week. Both replacements have metal valves & wall brackets, much nicer units.

Only hassle was having to call FedEx to schedule a pickup as the FedEx store and the regular pick up at work would not take them due to the hazardous labeling (white & black diamond) on the box.

I received the rest of my replacement fire extinguishers in the mail Monday. Last weekend I took the opportunity to teach my wife how to use a fire extinguisher. We used one of the recalled units. It left some powder in the tank but other then that no issues.

First (of 5) replacement units showed up yesterday.

Same rating, pretty much the same size, replacement unit has metal handles and metal valve body and metal 'plunger' pin and metal 'safety' pin and metal wall bracket. On the 'old' unit, all those pieces were plastic.

Waiting for the rest to show up and then I'll just make one call to FedEx for the pick up.

I just got this email from Kidde:

Thank you for participating in Kidde’s fire extinguisher replacement program. Customer safety is our priority and we are pleased by the strong response to our recall announcement. However, due to high demand the most comparable replacement for your unit is backordered.

We regret any inconvenience this has caused and are working diligently to fulfill your order as quickly as possible.

Thank you for your patience.

I'm not sure what's up with that, since I already got my replacements?!?

Has anyone else besides FORDMAN7795 had a website response listing their units as Unaffected?

I ran three H110G units through the Web interface and all three came back unaffected. Called the 800 number and was told that although the model was on the recall list, not all of these units were affected. It is also serial number related. FWIW, my three H100G units all pre-date 2004.

There is no mention of S/N impact on the FAQ.

I had the same units with the same response. The video clears this up.

I went through my house, garage, and cars today. I found three Kidde brand extinguishers with the plastic valves. However, after going through the process on their website, they said only one was affected by the recall. And it had a date of 1984 on it. The other two were from 2000 and 2002, but they were not part of the recall? I had assumed all of the plastic valve ones were included...
Anyway, I am supposed to have a new one on the way. Actually glad I looked through this. I have two old muscle cars that I thought had fire extinguishers in the trunks, but somehow they did not! Got to go shopping.....

Rlitman, thank you. I looked at all the links except the video.
I feel better that my units are not affected (although the Kidde webpage already told me that! Duh!)

I got mine and they want the old one returned as others have stated. At the time of submitting , I don't remember seeing that the old one is to be returned. I returned it but I discharged it ,removed top, and cut the bottom off. I was gonna make a wind chime from it. So they got a hollow tube. :D

I got the same email.

I suspect it's the 300 million or so 1A-10BC units (or similar) that they are short of.
