Update:

It runs!
Got everything temped up, crossed my fingers, turned the key... It turned over twice and fired right up!
Idles great, accelerates smoothly, no stumbling or hesitation,
BUT... Has a nasty exhaust backfire if I let off the accelerator abruptly. I can bring it down slowly and reduce the frequency and severity of the backfire but not eliminate it completely. Adjusted the idle jets on the carb, checked for exhaust leaks, plugs, wires, etc. I do have the stock vacuum line going to the ECU. Even tried temping up the Honda airbox to see if that makes a difference. Not really.
Does not backfire through the carb, just the exhaust.
Have a Weber jet kit on order, will try that next. Currently jetted at 45, might just be too lean. let's hope it's that simple.
Ideas, thoughts suggestions, criticisms, complaints, snarky comments welcome.😉
(Weber 38 carb on a Honda 1500 Goldwing Engine in a 32 Ford Roadster isn't something that yields much help on a Google search.)

It looks great! Opening or closing the chock help any?

Got tired of messing with the carburetor, so I went to the construction site across the cul-de-sac and snagged a couple of 2x6 drops. Ripped them to width, glued up a panel and finished up the top on the HF storage case rack. It's not a @jar944 cabinet quality job, but it didn't need to be.🤣
It finished up about .050" shorter than my bench height. I'm so ashamed...😉

Now I just need to get the cases filled and labeled.

Also worked on the seat support brackets today. These fought me every step of the way. I transfer- punched the 8 holes on the seat frames into the '32 floor pan, then drilled through. I either drilled tight against a frame member, halfway into an existing hole or hit nothing but air... Every hole required a custom bracket or mounting stud. One ended up directly above the driveshaft support. That one is getting a doubler and a nutsert. The rest have drilled and tapped 3/16 thick brackets with 3/8 Grade 5 nuts welded to the underside. I want the seats to stay in the car if something bad happens...the seatbelts are integrated into the seat support frames.
I trimmed down a couple of truck rack corners and made mounting tabs out of some (you guessed it @readhead) 3/16 diamond plate. I got everything fitted and bolted up, I may add a gusset to these when I tear everything down for powder coat.IMG_20241002_171607394_HDR.jpg

Popping exhaust is usually insufficient timing at decel. Spark not early enough to burn all the fuel and the mixture ignites in exhaust. Lean doesn't help but rich just puts more fuel in exhaust.

My Dad's V-star 950 has aftermarket pipes, fuel tuner, ect and it pops and bags horribly. I can't stand it. No easy way to adjust timing.

I like it. I've really gotten into using HF cases to build "kits" for different needs, e.g. A/N fittings, seals, rivnuts, et. al.. Pull it out, it's organized, gets the job done quickly without looking all over for something, and it gets put away just as quickly.

Couple of pieces of used equipment followed me home...

First stop was a trip to the far westside of PHX to pick up a 20" Drill Press from @StormcrowAz 's plant closing/ clean out. Thanks, Todd for holding it until I got back down the mountain. I am welding up a mobile base for it; should be finished tomorrow and I can get it finally out of the back of the truck. No rain in the extended forecast, so I haven't been in a big hurry to unload it.

Today I bought a used Micro Air welding fume extractor from a well drilling equipment fab shop. They upgraded to a bigger unit, this one was slated for auction but I was able to buy it before they consigned it. A set of new filters came with it.
Both need a little TLC, but are going to be great additions to the shop.

Finished up a little weldment yesterday.. IMG_20241011_100212807_HDR.jpg

All from stuff I had in my slowly diminishing scrap steel inventory. 1-1/2" angle, 3" channel, 3/8"x3" flat bar and 1" x 1-1/2" rectangular tubing.
Quick little project.. details to follow. 😉

And, just for @readhead I made sure to use some heavy diamond plate...🤣 Corner gussets this time.

No problem and thanks for making the trek to my side of town. :) Glad it went to a good home and looking forward to seeing it being used on cool projects coming out of your shop! I'm guessing your "weldment" is a new base for it and looks similar to what I just threw together today.

^^Bingo!^^

20" Drill Press I bought from Todd @StormcrowAz this weekend. Came out of the manufacturing plant he just closed down. Needs a little TLC but it should be good to go in a few days.IMG_20241011_152948698.jpg

I wanted to be able to move it around the shop, like all drill presses it has a narrow base and a high center of gravity. Figured the splayed legs would help alleviate that somewhat without getting in my way when I am using it.

Well, after Vyper cyber-stalked me with online coupons for a month, I decided to pop for a backrest for the stool I built this summer. That was a no-brainier @$60 - same price that I paid for the Vyper seat on eBay earlier this year... Makes it a lot more comfortable for extended use. IMG_20241012_182951243_MP.jpg

Thinking I might have to build another one, I have a ~15" long piece of 1" Acme threaded rod staring at me every time I walk by the round stock scrap bucket... And I will probably make the shelves out of steel sheet instead of expanded metal next time.

Your scrap pile has to be getting low by now  Nice job on the stool
Actually had to scrounge pretty deep to find enough diamond plate to do the little gussets on the drill press stand. But I knew @readhead would be disappointed if I didn't use some somewhere on the project. 😉Will definitely look for more of it when I go steel shopping next week.
