Nice work on the addition, and the shop!

I'm kinda jealous of all the space.

thanks. well i built the hut last winter but it's not finished because in May we broke ground on the addition. so pretty much all my "free"sources are going there. i sneak in a project or 2 on the barn but nothing major like my heated concrete floor yet. but the space is nice.

installed an alum heat reflector to help push more heat into the barn and not just waste out of the back.

whats the black material on the side of the hut for? not the millings. And also the red light switches? I have some from an auction, it appears they are special made for hospital use?

so that is road grade matting. i kind of messed it up in the back when i was running the back hoe. but it pretty much keeps the millings from squishing into the clay ground that was left when i stripped the topsoil.

red switches were the 20 amp switches i bought at menards (like lowes but less organized and about 10-15% less on certain items). i wanted gray switches, dirty fingers on white switches always *****. had that problem in my garage.

also picked this up the other day! traded a 15 year old snowmobile for it. great deal considering it has 2 years of 3 yr warranty left on it. it's 1 year old and was $2600 new!

hobart champion 145 arc welder and 4500 watt generator. and came with $500 worth of heavy welding cable!

Nice shop and greetings from above the bridge! I just finished assembling mine (30x36x14). You said your price on spray foam was 2400, is that open or closed cell ? Have you had issues with the building sweating and what is your height ?

sorry for all the questions, the price i received for 2 inches of spray was substantially higher but it looks like your building might be shorter

thanks! yeah, i'm 24x32x12 and you have to convert the corrugation into flat surface to measure actual sqft. then the price is about $1.60 sqft for closed cell. measure a section by section as if it were flat and then do the math. then measure hoop like a large U that you flatten out. that's what we did. the hoop as if it were just laying flat.

and no sweat issues at all. it's been up 13 months now. so all last winter, and then all summer. and let me know if you have any more questions. happy to help.

I had the technical drawings for my building so i was able to get the measurements and find my total surface area. With end walls and subtracting for doors my total surface area came out to be 2417 square feet. At 2 inches i am paying 2.80 per square foot, so i am quite envious of your price. i did shop around and the price i received is inline with other contractors, most of them quote at 12x12x1 for 1.60. Its an expensive option but getting the building sealed air tight and insulated at the same time seems like a good investment. I thought about doing foam boards but to get it tight would have been a real task.

Fixed one light in the rear tonight. It was out of place and not like the others... Really bothered me! LoL

Rewired my rear lights, hung 4 more on angles in both the rear and front. Have to finish wiring the, tomorrow.

Finally, went onto my local Re-Store today for no reason than to junk hunt... Found a nice swivel base TV mount for $15.

As always, will post my pics in the AM... On the iPad for now and pics on my phone.

what is the material you used on the roof?

Those are foil covered foam panels about 1 3/4" thick. I paid $10 apiece at the salvage store. It helped reflect heat back as it rose. They really made a difference between before and after. The steel just allows the heat to pass right through, so the aluminum foil has reflective properties and hindsight I could have used any thickness. But these were what was on sale cause it's what they had in stock. Also, I have learned that you could use them in a standard barn and it would work well because your 2x4 are on the flat in most pole barns, creating a nice air gap between the steel and the alum foil.

I bolted them up using an extra square nut as a jam nut and then the post nut to thread the bolt. I can add some closer and more detailed photos if you'd like

you don't need these with the claws on them. i used them with the foam boards. they are not needed. but it's what i had. 450c20faeb1126df79d59ccc77aa9ed5.jpg0f34909350377ff4d1e125d9eabd8488.jpg

I used these disc that are used for holding tar paper on a roof. They are about 3" round aluminum disc, I would drill a hole in them and use a 3 1/2" wood screw to hold my 2", 4 X 8' styro foam sheet to the roof of my barn. Don't know if it would work on your situation.

i think i saw that on your build or someone's?
this worked fine for me. it's all coming down when spray foam. but that won't be till spring for sure. gonna do the foam when i out the concrete in.

anyhow, this is a nice way to hang things without tapping into the sheetmetal walls

more fun stuff tonight. my NRA neon light and a 2nd Amendment placard made out of rough sawn wood. and finally my lever doors...cause i'm tired of knuckle busting when i open the doors, that and they are keyed the same as my digital lock. 0959809e9c7ce537b9058508715d2b59.jpg525ca0df0d389bfc3e49041b4486a8fd.jpg

Nice catch... LoL. Yes they are laminated mdf doors. My buddy was doing a job and got me 4. I cut one up for various projects and had this piece left over. It was too big to use as a shelf so I cut it down and made 2 shelves. My plans for the other 3 doors is to hinge them on the wall and make them my new work bench. And they will fold up if I want to cover the window, for an extended trip out of town. It would keep prying eyes looking inside. Finally the other benefit of the fold up is if I needed to back something extra long inside and needed the room, they can be moved easily out of the way. I'm hoping to mount them This weekend and I can get my saw horses back for a new project and have a permanent 36" deep by 14' long work bench.

you don't have time to watch TV. Next you'll be putting a hot tub, and call it a parts cleaner?

LoL. Yeah I know. Mainly wanted one to kick on a game or something. I don't ever watch football or anything cause it's on tv and I don't normally turn it on the radio. So maybe when I am tinkering I can turn a game on now. The thing I will prob use it more for is when I'm working on something I watch a lot of YouTube videos...it'd be really nice to have them playing on my tv in the garage. Who knows, maybe even be able to see it from the "parts washer" you mentioned...

Got my last 2 lights installed. So, I will post some pics of those tomorrow. And spray foamed close my mouse freeway that was running under my end walls.

It's nice having a barn I can work inside when it's blowing 5* and sideways here. Kicked the wood stove on and got to work. I had to get the honda snow blower working. These Hondas aren't supposed to break! It was running last week and then it snowed...and didn't work! But I think it got some moisture in the tank. It was empty. So I took the plug out, cleaned it, sprayed some carb cleaner on the plug and it fired up... Let it idle for 5 min and Bob's your uncle, it works great now.

Those blind nuts are a genius idea especially if you are trying to secure foam board. It would definitely keep them from shifting around.

thanks. it took some thinking and i can't even remember how i came up with it but i remember thinking if i could just bolt something from both sides. i had thought fully threaded couplers would work but wasn't sure and they were 5 x the cost of that box of wall anchors. i made the wall anchors work. they were cheap.

Nice build!

I'll bet your stove is coming in handy this week, I know mine is and I'm not far from you in central MI.

@lahti35 Bay city! I drive though it all the time! Heater stove is great. It was 10* in the shop today and inside an hour I had it up to 40* with little effort. I need to finish the spray foam which will make heating it a snap. But that isn't happening till next summer now. Oh well for now I make due. I can work just fine at 40-50 in the shop. So tomorrow after work I get home, light the fire, get it roaring, go inside and change from work, grab a beer and the temp is work comfortable In short order...
