Yeah, my local Menards price was 89 cents a piece and individually wrapped no less. Ohh and the only stocked 5 at a time.....

Wow you've got a lot of light in there! Looks my place look like a dungeon ha.
Ok. Not a ton done in the hut in past few days. BUT, it was 20 yrs for Mrs and Me today...hut-time was at a min. We agreed to make our cards this year and no gifts...which I'm a big fan. So, I made her something special, a heart cut from two cedar boards from a project I did this summer. Then I burned them with the torch and charred "20" into it with the torch. I told her that some times life makes things a little rough around the edges and things can get a little burned now and then, but we have made it work together. Pics to come tomorrow.
On a separate note, working on my work bench. I want 2 independent tops that can fold up to storage access, moving the top out of the way for a 30' trailer or extra space, or just protect the window when I'm out of town for more than a few days. I plan to mount the workspace tomorrow. I am using solid core laminated doors as the workbench (side note...they are wicked heavy). I'm mounting a ledger board for the door and hinges to mount on, giving the back edge something to sit on when pushed up. Also, adding collapsible legs that will fold flat when it is folded up.

Lmao...starter wife! We had our struggles. That's for sure. But we've persevered.

I took the 2" thick solid core doors and made the fold up...just in case I needed the extra 3 feet for some reason. Plus...added bonus, I can put them up when I'm out of town for an extended period of town. They provide additional security from any kind of break ins. Mind you, that's not a huge problem, but hey, why not protect an investment from prying eyes.

ok so every time we come to GA to visit my wife's sister, i go on the "junk hunt". i'm hitting up mainly flea markets looking for cool stuff. i stay away from "antique" stores cause antique in "southern" means dumb yankees pay stupid prices for already overpriced old junk. i lived down here for 15 years and I'm pretty sure i have that translation correct. (i know that the opposite translation is true in MI [emoji12])
that being said, i found some great deals at the flea markets and salvage store plus one nice little CL find. see below:

signs were $6 ea, warning sign will get "authentic" bullet holes and mounted to the door.

just for me:
red head hunting boots were $40 (they are $104 new i just checked) and my current ones are 15 years old and leak so it was time for new ones anyhow.

Doing a great job on the quanset hut!
thanks! excited to get back and finish up my work bench. i think i need to lower it about 4 inches.
also mount my wheels on my welding table.
also cooked up this idea of building a small shed to house my welder/generator and air compressor. so trying to decide to put it on the back of the hut (where ladder is located below in photo) or off the left side by the front. Also, I plan to make it with the garage door that I have also. I am trying to figure out how to overlay this photo and the garagedoor photo. Not sure that is the direction I want to go. But I have the door, so I figured why not keep the mower in there and my other garden tools.
The mower and tools are in another shed... one that cannot be moved, and is planned for distruction. So, who wants to take up PRECIOUS space in your hut for meanial items like mowers, snow blowers, welders, generators and air compressors. It'd be great to hide them out of the way and make my hut projects only!
The attraction to roll up doors are that they cannot be snowed shut...usually. And if I put this on the back side of my hut, it will catch a lot of weather. So a roll up door would be a nice touch. Also, thinking of adding the door to the side rather than the front.

Just found this thread today, really neat hut you have there. Now I have to follow just to make sure you preserve the name under the stove.
thanks for checking out the hut. yeah i think my plans are to use it either up front or out the back door for a stoop entrance pad. after evaluating my concrete situation, when i pour this summer, i need to pour about 2" higher than i made this slab. but that's ok. i have the ability to move this one. it's only 3'x3' and 4" thick.

I like the idea of putting the compressors and other stuff in a shed off the back of the hut, that'll really help on the noise they create as well. Also I don't really like to make trips when I know it'll take time away from projects, but do really enjoy seeing my family so it is a good trade off for me.

Im going to layout all the scrap wood and barn steel and see if i can manage to build this as a 8x8 or 6x6. originally i thought about 6x3, just big enough to hold the compressor and generator, but then figured if i go a little bigger i can park the mower with the other lawn and garden tools all in there as well, getting them out of the hut.
i agree on the trips, i know family is important. but man was it a slow 2 weeks! i think the hardest prt was i had all this time off during the end of the year, but with family in town for Christmas and then we went out of town for NYE, didn't get much done. but then i remind myself that the projects will NEVER be done as long as i have a barn. So there's no real rush!
@jbmatth, was also considering putting 4-6?lights in the floor like you did. i haven't poured concrete yet. i have some questions about the lights and the boxes. what brand lights did you use and did you use a special box that is waterproof? how about the glass, certain type of plastic or just 1/2"?

The boxes I built myself out of 16 ga. sheet metal, that was the thinnest they had at my supplier. They are 5" x 5"x 5" with a raised frame on top that is 7" x 7" out of 1" x 1" x 1/8" angle. I bought 3/4" thick lexan (bullet proof glass) to cover the lights with. Here is a link to my page where I started on the cans at post 889 HERE
The lights are cheap ones from the bay I bought part number LEF120V10DL. If I were to do it again I'd go for the 20w version. Other than that most all of the information can be found in my thread so feel free to ask me there or in a PM in case I miss it here.

so, just because i could, i hooked up a tv and an old laptop. the idea is that i like to watch "how-to" youtube videos and watching them on the phone *****. so i added this setup. i need to clean up the area but i hooked it all up. i had an antenna, indoor kind, apparently quanset huts and antennas don't work well together. lol (i knew that but figured i'd try). so i also hung one out side. i did not matter. still no radio and tv signal. thank goodness i ran cat-5 and will have the internet up and running soon. i can stream whatever i want then.

RE: NRA - i was the president of a local sportsmans club with 640 members and served on the board. now i handle the nra grants we submit for our youth programs and range improvements. its been more fun than being in charge.
i added a few more signs too! I didnt like the sticker bullet holes so i added a few of my own. and the Ton-Up sign is the first of many of my cafe racer inspired wall art.

oh and when i got back from vacation...this was waiting for me! the problem is that water is running in under wood end walls. concrete slab will fix this problem but its a hassle right now. im hoping for concrete in April. but the deal with the wife is our addition has to be complete before i get concrete.

that water is a bummer. I am battling a similar issue with my hut and the snow collecting at the base. when it builds up and the snow pack against the metal melts it ends up seeping under my base plates. This is 99% my fault as when i was laying out the base plates I got them square and perfect, then drilled the holes and anchored, but completely forgot to silicone the plates. I am going to put drainage around the perimeter this summer, but for now i'm really glad i have a floor drain

gtk! thanks. yes i didn't silicone either, directions said to put the foam sealant down would be good enough. apparently not! so i was going to solar seal silicone the base against my footer. do you think that might help? i heated up the barn last night and put the fan on. this morning it was almost all gone. by tonight it should be dry again.

No fun on the water, I know what you are going through and it is no fun. My best method so far has been to vacuum up as much water as possible then turn the fans on. It sometimes takes a day or two but it'll dry up. Good luck getting it sealed.

What do you mean by Solar Seal ?
great idea... never thought to vacuum it up. yeah it dried up after 2 days. but removing the extra water would go a long ways to expediting the solution
only the best stuff ever! its way stickier than silicone, seals better, is uv stable and will last longer when exposed to elements.

added my wood splitter to the collection. this was a cool find. few weeks ago on 12/31 i bid on this. it was3-pt hitch only. won it. went and picked it up 3 hrs away. got it home. sat a week while i contemplated what to use as an axle. looked at a few ideas. decided to use a frame i built for another project. it was for a motorcycle trailer project from over a decade ago! Needless to say, made good use of what I had. Also, used my buddy's mig welder for the first time...hmmmm...hooked!
