Re: Rick's Double Garage in Calgary, CAN

I'm buckling under the pressure. Couldn't work up the courage to open the box for fear that there would be an issue with the letters. Is that paranoia? I believe it is. Will size them up tonight and report back. I think the Audi one will be quite straightforward, but I may have to do some painting on the Kia one depending on whether they look good in the red oval, or not.

That often happens to me, and one little thing wrong, i freak, go through the whole process mentally regarding returning, then calm down and realize i can fix it or i wasn't noticing something. :dunno:

Re: Rick's Double Garage in Calgary, CAN

Had a somewhat successful evening. I mounted the "Audi" letters on the wide red stripe along the back wall. I am going to have to do some repainting on the "Kia' wall since the letters are 12" tall and didn't fit inside the red oval. When I removed the oval decal, some discoloration of the wall was revealed. I am going to add 4" to the width of the stripe and extend it all the way along so the "KIA" letters can be mounted within the stripe. So, I have a bit of a painting project ahead of me for tomorrow. Here's some pics of where things are right now:

Lovin the raised metal letters. Just curious, what is between them and the wall?

Re: Rick's Double Garage in Calgary, CAN

Thanks guys. I was in there for 3-4 hours this afternoon repainting the wall. I widened the stripe by adding and additional 4 inches. I am hoping to wrap things up this evening. I used those 3M command strips to mount the letters. They work perfectly because you can easily dismount the letters. I actually shifted the AUDI letters to the right by 7 or 8 inches so they are better centered underneath the clock.

As it was a while back:

I have a few touch ups to take care of prior to putting it all back together.

Looking good Rick. Been busy today!
Is that a different shade of gray, or is it just the lighting?

How are the shelves under the tire racks attached? I see no signs of holes or anything.

Re: Rick's Double Garage in Calgary, CAN

Yeah, it's a bit darker than what I had before. It's from the same color swatch as the rest of the garage. Before, it was a one-off shade of grey I bought a bunch of years back. Now, all the colors are more "related". With all the grey in there, I am looking at upgrading my overhead lights. It's not dark, but it's not exactly bright, either.

The wall anchors are hard to see since I painted over them. But, they are there. I only have the lower shelf up there now.

I think it works well. Nice contrast.

I love the way it came out. And, I owe you a huge thanks for steering me in this direction.

I like the letters, I am looking at doing something similar myself, but am looking at mounting small lights behind each letter to make them look almost like a dealership sign.

Sounds very cool. Go for it!

Dubber, all the red you see is paint! The only decals left are the Optima and Q7 and the little Audi and OOOO you see on the cabinet wall. Everything else is now paint. The way I like it.

Oh my, you have so much to learn about chaos. Come on over to my place for a healthy dose of true chaos. I'll even let you organize it some. I do have plans for the next three days to get some more of the mess sorted and hope to put in some long overdue updates to my own thread. Your rapidfire postings of the constant improvement to your all ready pristine garage is shaming me into it

Good job

Nice shop, do you do any consulting? This is part of my 50x 100 shed, the rest is worse. I might need a few pointers for one of my shops. I'm renovating one of mine right now, decided this one was too far gone.

Re: Rick's Double Garage in Calgary, CAN

The only consultation I could offer anyone is to 'keep at it'. My garage has been a process of trial and error. I try to keep the errors to a minimum, but I am a strong believer in letting your garage evolve. The first step is always to rid the space of anything that isn't useful and needed. Once that's accomplished, you can get an idea of what needs to be done. Are you in Caglary, Cantoo?

Ontario, west of Toronto on Lake Huron. I have a bunch of relatives working out west and might be considering it this spring though.

Well, if you do make the move out here, I hope it is worth it. I love living here but our weather may take some getting used to. Good luck with life's decisions.

Garage looks great Rick. The raised letters really set it off.
