Love what you have done. I can't wait to start my project. I might have to borrow some of you ideas. Especially what you did with the garage rails.

Ok Rick.. it's been quiet for too long. I know you.. you've got something cooking for your garage.. you can NOT leave it this long without planning to change/improve something in your garage. :)

Hey Rick! Hope you are doing great.

I was thinking of detailing my engine bay this weekend. Any suggestions and recommendations?

Budo, things have been relatively quiet, but I have been able to give my car a few cleanings due to the mild temps we have been experiencing. As far as garage improvements, the only thing I have done lately is a bit of painting in the space above the garage door. I had darker paint on the trim, but I painted it out to blend. Nothing exciting.

Hi Kristian, shame about your bumper, but it looks like you got it fixed up.

Cleaning the engine bay is one of my favorite detailing chores. I use Griot's Garage Engine Cleaner (or if it's particularly dirty I will use their Oil & Grease Cleaner spray). I liberally douse the entire area and then use a boar's hair brush to agitate. I will use a variety of brushes to get into every nook and cranny and then rinse it all away. I use my Metro Blaster dryer and then top it off with a coating of Engine Bay Dressing.

One thing I try not to do when cleaning the engine is to get the insulation pad under the hood soaking wet. I will just use a damp rag to dust that off.

Hope that helps.

Re: Rick's Audi Double

Read your entire thread and you are a motivator for me to become WAY more OCD about my garage. YOU sir are living the dream and I would look for any free/cheap input from you in my intro thread: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=4668477#post4668477

Thanks,

Kevin

Haha! Not often you hear how people want to be more OCD, but I will take it as a compliment. I've briefly checked out your thread, and will be sure to stop by and leave some input. Thanks for checking out my garage. Hearing how others are enjoying it gives me the incentive to keep improving it.

And, was able to give my car a much needed wash. Powerwashed it on the driveway, then used my Optimum No Rinse. Here's a couple of finish shots. Won't last long, but boy does it feel good.

Thanks, EMC2. I do like my Griot's.

Did a little floor cleanse today. In case you weren't aware of the visual impact a RaceDeck floor has on a garage, feast your eyes on this:

Thanks Dubber. The weather out here has been pretty nice. Messy, but nice!

That with and without the race deck shot is fantastic! I love the look of those floors... still saving money in hopes to add it to my garage some day.

What is the light grey paint colour name that you used on the walls? I am about to start painting my new garage and I am looking for a nice light grey colour to use.

It's a purchase I appreciate on a daily basis, for a few reasons.

Do you guys have Rona out East? If you do, here's the swatch I based my colour theme off.

You have one of my favorite garages!

Will be going to Griot's Garage today to get some micro-fiber orbital pads and to visit one of my cars that is on display there:

Do you have a picture of the back side of the sample card?

I'm not sure there is anything on the other side, but I will check later.

Odis, that is amazing that you have one of your cars on display at their HQ. If I'm ever down that way, I will have to drop by and check the place out. As for cold temps in Calgary, we have been very lucky this winter and avoided the usual sub-zero temperatures on most days. The Eastern part of Canada hasn't been so lucky! Thanks for dropping by.

Rick - you've probably provided the most inspiration in your thread and site for me to update my own garage space. Just wanted to thank you. Beautiful work you do. Great looking site too.

Just ordered my RaceDeck FreeFlow. I just had my last winter with an ugly garage.

I must also say allot of what you have done has also inspired me.

It is sure amazing what the RaceDeck does to the total appearance of your garage.

Looks great, keep up the good work.

Hi Sean, so sorry for the delay. It just occurred to me that I had not posted a pic of the back side of the sample card. Hope this helps:

Thanks, gentlemen. I'm glad you can appreciate what I have done with my double garage. Just goes to prove, you don't need a massive space to make something special out of.

I've been MIA for a bit, but it's almost time to perform the big winter/summer wheel swap. I am going to film the process without a protective rubber mat to show the effects of lifting a car atop the FreeFlow tiles. I have some replacement tiles in the event it doesn't go so well. Stay tuned for that. Other than that, I've just been enjoying the space.

Here's a few shots of my winter setup on the SQ5 before they get swapped out.

Re: Rick's Audi Double

I'm hoping Mother Nature doesn't seek revenge on me, but I went ahead and did the summer/winter wheel swap this weekend. I took the opportunity to video document the process. I posted a blog entry demonstrating the impact of the floor jack on my RaceDeck FreeFlow floor without the protective rubber mat I use. Also, I posted a blog entry demonstrating the process I went through to ready my winter wheels for summer storage.

Here's a shot of the wheels all polished up. Not too shabby for having two Canadian winters under their belt.

That's what I've been up to. I have a few more ideas brewing for future posts. Stay tuned.

Looks good, thanks for the demo....tbh, doesn't look nearly as bad as I expected, I could even live with that. Having said that, I would probably still use a plank of wood to protect the floor since it's hardly any effort...

I was pretty impressed with how the floor "bounced back" after the jack was removed. The positioning of the casters is a factor in the amount of resulting damage. First time I ever attempted jacking my car on the floor, the casters rested in the middle of the tiles so the damage was much more severe. This time, I positioned the casters towards the edges, where their is more reinforcement, so as to not damage more tiles than necessary. If I didn't use the rubber mat, or remove the tiles like I used to do, this floor would be full of gouges and divots by now.

You're right though, it requires little effort to chuck a plank of wood or rubber down.

That was ambitious! I usually wait till at least May 1 until I swap. Hope we don't get any snow!

Yup, I sure hope my ambition doesn't result in an early morning swap back to winters! You never know, but I feel like I was really wearing out my Blizzaks driving around in this awesome Spring weather.

Re: Rick's Audi Double

Took some time this past weekend to detail the engine bay. It wasn't horrendous, but I like my engine bay to look as factory as possible. I think I got it there:

Great job on the engine Rick! I did mine a couple of weeks ago and I'm always feeling a bit uneasy about hosing down the engine bay.

Re: Rick's Audi Double

Wow!! The engine bay really looks good..and I still get a kick out of how you did the garage door opening at the beginning of the video, and then at the end. :) Looks like you got one of your little ones to help with the work. Very cool.

Quick question.. do you use any kind of plastic dressing under the hood or in the interior? I have moved away from using anything like that long ago. The dressing just seems to attract more dust/dirt. I will put some tire dressing on if I'm going to like a car get together or something, but that's about it.

Thanks for the cool post/video.
