some Snap on F-70 two diff.
HPIM1315.jpg

HPIM1316.jpg

Have a 1932 model like these, it will be in a Snap-On pic late in this thread. Notice they do not have the 2 bolts (machine screws?) retaining the cover plate, it is just pressed in, unlike the later ratchets.

Alright.......now we're cookin'............206 posts, 6189 views................

20 more 3/8" drive ratchets of mixed brands.............. :bounce:

20mixedbrandsnewbritainqc6.jpg

From left to right:

1-4)Husky
5) American Forge (stamped U.S.A)
6) Mustang
7) Sparta
8) Blackhawk
9) Easco fine tooth/quick release/thumb wheel
10) K-D polished (twin to a Craftsman polished except with a knurled handle)
11) Action
12) No name stamped on it, only a U.S Patent # stamped on it. It is a unique ratchet head design, unlike any other in the collection. No screws are used to hold on the cover plate, uses a sunken snap ring instead. Closest thing I've seen to the design is some ratchets from Australia on Ebay.
13) Indestro
14) Duro-Chrome
15) Indestro (had a tug of war with a cheater pipe, and lost :( )
16-18) Indestro
19) Westcraft (Old Western Auto brand name)
20) Indestro Super

Yes.........the insanity will continue :willy_nil ............another mixed brands batch of 3/8" drives yet to come............ the overall count is getting nearer the 300 mark...........

('HOUND's running ratchet total, this thread: 218 1/2" Drives, 76 3/8" Drives, 294 Overall/All Sizes. Number needed to surpass overall/all sizes ratchet total of 300: 7. )

Numbers 5, 6, & 7 would look good sitting next to my other Kilness patent NB ratchets....

What's the patent # on 12 - would tell who actually made it, if assigned to a company.

It has 2 patent #'s, my best guesses, the 8s and 9s are hard to discern:

3,208,318(9?) Can't get this one to come up, or an image anyway.

4,277,990 This one came up as 1979 by a guy with Duro Metals. Brief decription:

"A ratchet wrench for supporting removable wrench sockets of simplified construction employing a two-chambered pear shaped housing journaling a ratchet gear and a one-piece combined pawl and pawl reversal lever which are supported on parallel axes for limited rotational movement in mutual bearing engagement; such ratchet gear and pawl receiving additional bearing support from the walls of their respective chambers and being maintained in their rotational operating positions by a single retaining ring."

Key words for me differentiating it from other ratchets were "by a single retaining ring" .

I could have bought the 1/2" version like those at the flea market brand new last weekend for $4, had no brand name stamped on it, just USA. Have too many now of that style with brand names, oh well, a guy can second guess himself all day long.

The 4,277,990 one certainly looks like it. The handle also looks very much like a Duro/Indestro ratchet. 3,208,318 is for a quick release mechanism for ratchets, which that ratchet doesn't appear to have.

My biggest regret was passing up a 3/8 and 1/2 indestro ratchet still in the wrapper a few years back. The teardrop versions.

Those actually look like reasonable deals! The screwdrivers look like the classic SOs everybody raves about...

Wonder how snapon and cycling are related?

I don't know. I'm actually trying to think of where one might use flathead and Phillips screwdrivers on a modern bicycle. Those wrenches for that matter too... There isn't much I can't adjust or remove with a set of hex keys on my bikes.

Anything else would tend to be a specialty tool and you'd think Park or Pedros or Topeak would be the manufacturer...

Re: Ratchet ****

Antother day.............another ratchet post..................yee-haw! Here we go! :3gears:

Up next are 19 more 3/8" drives of mixed brands.

19mixedbrands3williams3to8.jpg

From left to right:

1)Craftsman
2)Mac (Vintage, one of only 3 Mac ratchets in the collection)
3 & 4) Williams
5) Williams (Vintage piece in Excellent shape!)
6) Powr-Kraft (Black handled piece manufactured by Wright. What looks to be a thumbwheel is actually the reversing lever.)
7 & 8) Wrights (Black handled)
9) Challenger by Proto
10) Husky
11) S-K (fine tooth)
12) K-D (round head, like the one Craftsman offers, except with a knurled handle)
13) Action
14 & 15) Thorsen
16) John Deere (Only one I've ever seen. Looks like the style Bonney offered at one time. No, it's not for sale, so no PM's from you green painted implement freaks...........(Ha, Ha, Just Kidding, no hate mail))
17)Armstrong (used)
18 & 19) Armstrong (one is new from a set, and the other is new in the package, you'll just have to take my word for it :) )

A billymade quote before we start the next paragraph....................

From post #122 of this thread...........

This is just INSANE, insane... I say!

When he made that post, would you believe with an overall count at that time of 177, the count wasn't even half done? I'm finding it hard to believe myself. :wtf: With 300 in our rear view mirror, the count to 400 begins (not a typo). :shocking:

Enough of the run of the mill, or used stuff, how about some shiney bling, bling (did I really just type that :lol_hitti) 3/8" drive........on deck!!!!!

That said............... to quote billymade from post #166 of this thread............

The insanity continues! :)

('HOUND's running ratchet total, this thread: 218 1/2" Drives, 95 3/8" Drives, 313 Overall/All Sizes. Number needed to surpass overall/all sizes ratchet total of 400: 88. )

Good Morning Americans........................Its Friday!!! :bounce:

(That's a little Paul Harvey cliche' for those tuning in from around the world outside the U.S.A.)

Another day............another ratchet post. Some shiney long handled 3/8" drive stuff comin' at ya'. Too bad my background is so poor, the chrome isn't set off very well in hindsight, several of these 21 pieces are new.

21mixedbrandsxlongtorqudq1.jpg

1) Snap-On (Flex-Head Torque Wrench)
2) Snap-On (Fixed-Head Torque Wrench, older piece, even if it won't calibrate, still makes for a Ex-Long handled ratchet)
3 & 4) Snap-On (Long Handled Flex Head)
5) Snap-On (New, Round head, fine tooth)
6) Snap-On (Ratchet Head, had to show it off with the pick of the litter from the 3/8" drive breaker bars, and chose this blue handled Snap-On, "dang near to "purty" to use".............:lol_hitti.)
7) Cornwell (New Long Handled Flex Head, 1 of only 2 Cornwells in the collection. Guy that sold it to me had several damaged freight items. This ratchet has a nick in the reverse lever, still works as new.........you could say there was a bit of a discount )
8) S-K (New, Pivoting Head (S-K calls it a "Roto-Head" ratchet))
9) S-K (Used, Pivoting Head)
10) Williams (New plastic handled Flex-Head)
11 & 12) S-K (One near New fine tooth, the other a used fine tooth)
13 & 14) S-K (One New Bent-Handle Flex-Head fine tooth, the other used)
15) S-K (New Bent-Handle Flex-Head, standard tooth count)
16) Craftsman (New plastic handled Flex-Head tear drop polished)
17) Craftsman (New Polished Professional)
18) Craftsman (New Bent-Handle Flex Head, standard tooth count)
19) S-K (New Polished, standard tooth count)
At the bottom:
20) Snap-On (Palm Ratchet)
21) Craftsman (Stubby Polished Flex-Head, surprising how much I've used this ratchet, even though I don't like the ratcheting mechanism..........would like one in another brand, or a different style head, I know the prior generation of Craftsman Professional Polished offered a stubby flex-head.)

Okay.................next up a bunch of old Snap-On, or a bunch of old mixed brand 3/8" drive ratchets?.............hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Think we'll save the Snap-On for last...................but that just means the next pic will have Plombs in it ;) .

The march to 400 continues....................

('HOUND's running ratchet total, this thread: 218 1/2" Drives, 116 3/8" Drives, 334 Overall/All Sizes. Number needed to surpass overall/all sizes ratchet total of 400: 67. )

the last one i saw on ebay went for $118 IIRC and it looked like it had been in a fire, while i don't think it is the rarest ratchet out there, it has to be up there.

MOPARHOUND!, so... I guess you didn't sell off all of your Snapon ratchets!?!

Most of the more desirable modern stuff found new homes years ago.............check the Classifieds Section for Snap-On I forgot I owned :headscrat .......and other tools. :)

That Snap-On torque wrench on the far left is a keeper.......got to have one of those when it comes to torque spec's.

The triple bay top and bottom Matco was recently traded away. I bought some of that heavy metal shelving at Lowes, and utilized some of the over 100 hand toolboxes I'd accumulated over the years. Didn't see the sense in having $1,000's ******* when I hardly ever open a drawer, when a few $100 could store the stuff.

Still have the Matco double bay top and bottom stuffed full. Also dug the old Snap-On 1940s triple stack out of the lawn mower shed, and filled it up.

The Matco's were over 10 feet wide side by side, 51 drawers 24-1/2" deep, plus the space under the lids:

matcotriplebaytopbottomcl2.jpg

The 1940s Snap-On triple stack, it has shall we say, "character" :) :

There will be another triple bay top and bottom one day, but I'll need a shop building to park it in, and more $$$ in the bank. Someone stole this one off eBay yesterday, doesn't show it in the pic's, but it has huge mirrors etched with Eagles under the lids from the Snap-On factory, seller kept lowering the price till someone clicked Buy It Now:
