Yes an AOH is on the future plans, with a foot pedal instead of the hand operated valve.

I really like the convenience of the AOH ram on my engine hoist. I does creep up, emitting a pop every minute or 2, effectively lifting the load when it shouldn't. Perhaps there is some adjustment, leak or something I can address.

The exclusions on the 20% off coupons are broad enough that they can't be used on most larger items. But the unit will go on sale again at some point.

Don't feel bad. A rifle is an important tool as well. It puts food on the table, and the money saved on groceries can be used on another rifle. Or a press.

The exclusions list on those coupons has grown to the point that its basically the entire store besides the really cheaply made stuff i never bought to begin with.

Nice fixes on the quad. I bought one of those 500w 24v quads for my son when he turned 2. Its a few years old now but has required a lot of upkeep. He got a pw50 last year so now his sister uses the quad.

They grow up fast... The pw should be a solid machine. Then an 80, 125, 250 and so on...

Busy time of year, every weekend has activity. Went archery deer hunting last weekend. This weekend is dune trip, so getting the 'X prepped for sand duty.

My dedicated sand chain (decent DID) has stretched a lot and is too loose for the 51T sprocket and +1 chain link setup. The allowable range in the axle block is limited so the paddle can clear the swing arm, has to be back at least 75%. I bought a 48T rear sprocket and removed a link pair, but is still too long. Then got a 49T which is good for now. Once the chain stretches to much for this configuration, I'll get a new chain and go to the 48T.
A '520' chain has a 5/8" pin length, so a sprocket with one more tooth move wheel forward about half a link (5/16"). I think the chain has stretched about a 1/2" total, so out of 114 links it's about 0.004 each or 7%. So the sand can wear out a decent chain in just a few days, but they are fun, full throttle days.

Got the intake manifold and water pump installed on the 460. All went well until I realized I should have installed the heater loop elbow fitting, first. Dooh!
:Homer:
It's possible to cut out and replace the hose but a PITA. Against good judgement I spent $27 on this **** stainless elbow barb fitting, so I have to use it...

Working on the brake calipers for the old ford. For some reason I think its a good idea to rebuild myself instead of just buying a refurb'd set. The had sat for awhile and pistons were tight, but no stuck. I used air pressure to pop them out but damaged the pistons a bit. They were a little fragile anyhow so ordered new ones. After 4 parts orders, everything is new. I did save some $ doing the rebuild myself but probably not worth my time. But I like to do things myself I guess.

The dunes were rougher on my bikes than all the years I spent racing. Coming up short or going long on some of the jumps was brutal. We were all racers so someone was always willing to hit a gap first FB_IMG_1579811374242.jpegFB_IMG_1579811199532.jpeg

No problem. Dunes are a blast on a bike. About as much fun as you can have with your clothes on. Pulling a long wheelie while riding around the top of a huge bowl is quite the experience, with the horizon vertical.
Launching a high powered drag car is up there too.

Dunes are a blast on a bike until you get off the throttle and try to steer. I hate riding in sand. It tears me up so bad. Maybe fun when i was younger.

Yeah, I tried it on my XR600 on two separate trips but then thought I'd stick to my sand quads and sand rail. My buddy on the one trip had his front end wash and he went over the handlebars and tore up his inner thigh on the hand grip/handlebar and that was enough for me to ditch the bikes in the dunes and just stick to riding them in the mountains.

We enjoyed duning for 25 years before giving it up and selling all of our sand toys. My wife and I started duning in 1987 when we first started dating. I had a Suzuki LT250 and bought her an LT230. I had them all tricked out with go fast stuff and custom paint/chrome and then around 2000 switched over Banshees and got heavy into sand rails until we sold everything in 2012 and got out of it. Between snowmobiling and sand duning we created a lot of great family memories.

Riding 2 wheels in the sand is definitely non-trivial. It takes a lot of energy and attention. It does make you a better rider, but it also has dangerous aspects. The 'rule of lug nuts' applies out in the dunes. There are a lot of idiots on SxS's to run me over.

Since I'm 'old' (42) my goal in the dunes is to survive to ride another day. Being hard on the body, there only some many miles/hours until fatigue makes it dangerous. So ya, just don't let off the throttle.
:)
I've got a buddy who still rides a bike in the sand, he's in his 60s. Not sure how he does it. He told me to steer by putting weight on the outside peg. Doesn't make sense but it works great. Once you master a tight turn its magic.

Got the link bars welded up with some help from competent welder friend. I manually rotated the tubes while he welded to get a single 360* weld. Half came out well, the others needed some touch up.
All the 7/8 joints would accept the rod ends fine, but the 1-1/4 ones did not and had heat warpage at the weld location. I bought a cheap 1-1/4"-12 tap and chased the threads. Next is paint and bushing install. May tap threads for a grease zerk just in case. The bushing will have only linear deflection and no rotation.

Nice Justin. By looking closely at the picture it appears as though you also added a Rosette weld in addition to the perimeter weld on the tube adapter. I can't recommend that enough.

Great job.

Yes, a pair of rosettes on the 1-1/4 stuff. The Ruff Stuff 7/8" threaded inserts don't protrude into the tube enough to add them.

Pic is broken for me...
Google pic hosting is finicky, try viewing with chrome.

All in the details!
Yes, which can be a blessing and a curse. The reason I take twice as long to finish anything. But it will look nice when I am doing service underneath.

Buried part of one of the irrigation ditches on the property. Will allow maneuvering trailers easier, extra parking and keep people from driving into ditch. 60' on my property and 60' on my neighbors. Timing was difficult as I was out hunting and duning last 2 weekends but got it done before first run. Needs some more granite of some type and blend into the neighboring communities green belt landscaping.

Dune trip was short but all went well. Much more comfortable leading/navigating the big stuff. Already ready for the next trip, but have lots of family stuff on weekends for next 3 months.

Buddy brought his 1986 CR500 out. Rode it some, but a modern 450 4 stroke is better in every way, IMHO.

Put my new press to work on spindle bearing/seal install. So much easier/quicker/better why did I wait so long to get one?
:headscrat
Also used the lathe to make an appropriate sized puck/die for the job. Need a way to store these things as the collection grows.

Somehow one of the new brake pad retainers was rusty inside the unopened package. I have a hard enough time with unnecessary turd polishing, this doesn't help.

I only use IE for certain work related applications. Like setting IP addresses in Industrial devices.

Chrome and Opera are my browsers. Chrome on my phone cannot see them either.

Google cannot link to Google! :lol_hitti

Got the front axle mostly complete. Just need to seal front cover and fill with oil. Only took 15 months.

Will see how these G2 hubs work out. I think they will be the weak link (fuse) and keep the 30 spine outer stub and u-joint alive. With a big block and 40s parts will fly if abused.

I to am using Chrome and half the pics don't work. Google doesn't actually provide a direct linking mechanism though google photos like it used to with picasa. So I am assuming you are copy/pasting the CDN links?

What did you end up doing for the spindle?

Now that you got yours done, you want to come clean mine up and assemble it?

Couldn't get another so ended up using the one you gave me, thanks again! The spindle bearing and the inner wheel bearing lands were OK but the outer was suspect. Used lathe to polish the land and get bearing on it. Still has a lip on about half the surface. I think it will be OK.

Sure, let me know when everything is clean, shiny and ready to go back together!

Trying direct links in this post. adds a few more steps to the process.... pita

Filled the torque converter up half way with fluid. This converter is a higher stall than factory (+300 rpm), guessing 1900-2100 rpm instead of 1600-1800. Intent is to get fully into power band to get this heavy pig rolling. Guessing 450+ ft*lbs at any rpm with peak around 525. Using dex/merc instead of type F.

Remembered to install shield first then flex plate. This year 460 is internally balanced. Nice to install all clean and painted parts.

Installed trans/TC first into chassis then motor and bolted them together. Next is the heavy NP205.

OK. There is no guarantee that the link will remain the same which I think is why some of your images wont work right. You used to be able to click share and get a direct link to the image, but now its just URL to a page that loads the image.

What I ended up doing was opening a google cloud storage account. They give you 5 gigs free. https://cloud.google.com/storage/ https://cloud.google.com/free

You can upload the image to that and make it public. It will give you a direct link. Not as convenient as google photos used to be but not really all that hard either.

Cool, thanks for the info. I also found a utility that converts a shareable link to a direct link. Will see how long the existing image link last....
