I thought that I had posted on this thread before but I skimmed through real fast and didn't see me. If I'm repeating myself I apologize.
I was born in aurora Il. That is about 12 miles from Yorkville Il where the Remline factory was located. Back then everyone said they were from Chicago, Yorkville was about 45 miles from chicago back then but much closer today. The box pictured was purchased by my father at the factory for 5 dollars for each piece a total of 10 bucks. He bought them around 1971- 1972 he was a truck driver for Blackwood motor freight and pulled freight out of Remline. The box was in there scratch and dent section it had a small dent in one end so the factory sold them as opposed to scraping them. I borrowed it from Dad in 1975 as I got a job at the Toyota dealership in Aurora and needed tools, we also went to Farm and Fleet in Dekalb Il. and bought some wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, and a hammer. Dad passed in 2007 and I took the box home with me. I plan on redoing it someday, my neighbor owns a powder coat shop he looked at it and said he had the powder in stock to do the job when I was ready. I ain't ready. Anyway I said all of that to say that alot of you have asked the age of your box, mine is circa 1972, thanks, Jim20200614_175911.jpeg20200614_175950.jpeg20200614_175957.jpeg20200614_175938.jpeg20200614_175928.jpeg

Nice, I would be happy with a bottom box like that one.

So... I have a PowerKraft 10 drawer top box that is original paint and in great condition. Do I swap over the handles and badge to make a nice Remline? I would want to convert it to 12 drawer so 3 of them would still be repainted. I think that is the plan as the outer frame is much worse on the remline.

I don't think at this time I am ready to fully restore and paint anything. I will wait awhile and see if any original paint boxes turn up. I do need to figure out how to replace the rivets though.

Restoration on my Dads old top box is finally finished. Well into breaking down the roller cabinet. Gonna have to get some welding done as a few spot welds have let go. But I learned a few things from the top box to now do on the roller resto. Let me know what you think of my effort.

Looks great! What did you use for rivets?

I decided to just swap all the drawers rather then mess with the handles.
This way at least they all match and the condition is only slightly worse then my Powr-Kraft drawers.

The extra two middle drawers and the two little drawers are a welcome addition.

I did an extensive search last night for anything Remline and there just isn't much out there. Still, I have seen a few over the last year so something will turn up.

Looks Damn nice lafester. Will be even better when you find a matching roller to put under it. I am sure you will.

My father recently came into some medical challenges and I received this box as a hand me down. It was my grandfather’s first, then handed to my father, when he passed. So unfortunate circumstances but three generations of usage is cool.

Once I got it home, I immediately searched this site and found this very cool thread. I’d love to do a full refurbish of this box but have never done anything like that. Can anyone point me to a helpful place as to where to start? I have read a lot of refurbishing threads of old vices and presses but the work on this site is so good that it can be overwhelming.

I am a pretty capable DIYer but no experience with metal.

Thanks!

That is a nice box! In my opinion, you don’t need to refinish it, just clean it and remove the overspray and drops and wax it.

Hey, those are pretty cool. Where do you find them?

So on a whim I search for Rem Line as two words and look what pops up.
Its only a 3 drawer but the cool factor makes up for a lot.

Going to pick it up tomorrow.

If there is a collector out there that would like to trade me for a used one with more drawers, feel free to pm.

I have used rivet head bolts on some other projects, I thought when I got to Dads box thats what I would use again.rivet1.jpeg

That's a cool idea. It creates a clean smooth look.

When I want to add some bling to the handle installation, I use panhead screws with nickel plated acorn nuts on the outside.

Ok I'm back. The box has one small dent on the top rim. The rest looks really good. Came with a little flyer that I will scan later, but have some pics for now.

Looks like the Supply Sergeant is a surplus store, still in business today.

The box never traveled far from its home as I picked it up just down the road.

Thanks, I had a lot of fun with it. Well worth the few extra bucks it cost to get it. I updated the previous posts with uploaded pics and a link to the Supply Sergeant where it was originally shipped. They are still in business since 1958.

I'll scan the little catalog and the instructions into a .pdf and see about uploading somewhere.

These also fit the 3 drawer. Sure would be nice to find a stash of them somewhere. Seems like it would be a bit flimsy without being bolted in.

Question for the more knowledgeable remline guys... I found this picture of a page out of the catalog... catalog mentions the 2 drawer add on so that your 7 drawer roller can become a 9 drawer. Looks like they are calling it an insert. How does this attach to the lower roller? Do you remove the the lower cover and then slide right in? Ad says it installs in seconds with no screws or modifications... are there already slides present in the 7 drawer and then you just insert the drawers? Anyone have a 9 drawer that can answer this?

I'm starting to fill her up.
Not quite as stable as my Waterloo roller but I'll get it.

Hmmm. I swear I posted a picture of my 7 drawer box...

Anyway, I found a 7 drawer so the formerly NOS 3 drawer will go to light duty under the work bench. It even has the saucer casters which are kind of cool.

The 7 drawer is a little beat up but not bad overall. If anyone has a spare bottom drawer slide please send me a pm. Something really hit this drawer hard to twist the damn slide. I've tried twisting it back but so far no luck.

Replacement Top lip for the right side fabricated and welded on, Old Paint stripped off. Just needs to be wiped down with mineral spirits and then into primer. Thanks again lafester!

Getting there, four more drawers to get done. 1 in paint, 1 stripped and 2 waiting. I really hate doing the drawers the most.

Hi all, long time lurker first time poster.

Inherited a RemLine box when we bought our house. Needs some TLC so I plan on sanding, painting, lubing, etc. The middle drawer is pretty beat up, so not sure if I'll be able to get it flattened out or not. Any suggestions on how to go about this? Top drawer also is a little dented. Would I be able to buy a replacement drawer for the middle? Didn't know if most boxes have the same dimensions or style of drawer runners, or if each brand uses something proprietary. If any other information or pictures would help, just let me know. Thanks!

Here is an older Rem Line machinist chest that I acquired in December of 2019. Not sure of when it was made, but the label says Hamilton, Ohio. The drawers have a green flocking instead of a felt lining.

IMHO, it appears to be in good shape for its age. I think it could just stand a little bit of a cleaning instead of a full restoration before being put back into service. The biggest decision is what will be kept in it. I'm not sure if I will use it to hold antique machinist tools or some of my more specialized ones that do not see quite as much use, or possibly something else.20191203_081933.jpeg20191203_081944.jpeg20191203_082151.jpeg20191203_082252.jpeg

I saw this set posted on Facebook at a garage sale in Lincoln Nebraska this weekend. I don't know if it is still available.
